what is it with tumblrs obsession with the mythical "person who calls lgbt people slurs but treats them well, better than other lgbt people" there is a post celebrating this hypothetical person it seems like monthly.

like in reality if someone refuses to stop using bigoted language but acts superfically nice they are a bigot period. if someone keeps using slurs knowing they are bad they are a bigot. if slurs keep "slipping" out of someones mouth, it is because they use those words liberally when not in current company. like if someone acted nice and friendly to you, but also called you a dipshit and occasionally made references to you being a lesser person that they are, you wouldnt think "oh what a nice person" you'd think "this guy is secretly an asshole!"

but nah the worship of the imaginary guy who calls lgbt ppl slurs but is earnestly pro-lgbt rights lives on.

You're not actually a better friend for not articulating and respecting your own needs, limits and boundaries. Your lack of communication and boundaries is not some impressive sacrifice.
