Comic Book

Not a usual reader of comic books, I didn’t know which software will be more suitable and easy to use for me. So I searched for a comic book reader. In the results of my search on Google about comic book reader, I found a website, http://lifehacker.com/5858906/five-best-desktop-comic-book-readers, who presented several comic book reader and do a survey to see which one is the best ( I didn’t use any of those comic readers). Not knowing which one to use, I decided to use all of them, judge and pick the good one for me. Looking for a software to read the comic book, I came across several software like CBR Reader downloaded on www.cbrreader.com. Then I saw also this other software called C.B.R from this website https://wfpbookreader.codeplex.com/ . Between these two comic book readers, I chose C.B.R... I think compared to the first one CBR Reader, C.B.R is much easier to use. To use this software, the first step is to download on the website given below. The version I’m using, is 0.7.0.0 but there the last version is 0.9.0.0. After downloaded and installed, you need to create a library where all your comics will added. To do so, just click on the option New from the Library tab. From there, you just have to specify where the library should be saved and a give a name. After creating the library, from the same tab, choose the option Add and Add a file. After selecting that option, a new window will appear and go where you saved your comic books, not the library. Only one comic book can be added at the time. Repeat the last step till all your comic book are added. To be added, the comic book should in .cbr,.cbz.rar,.zip,.cbzd format. All the comic book added to your library will be visible in the library explorer. To open a comic book, just double click on the one you want and it’ll appear. After all these steps, the last step is to save that library otherwise all the comic books added will be gone; and to save, go to the File tab and click on save. Another library can be created but first the current library should be closed. Go Library tab and option Close.

Embarrassing Photo

The photograph the most embarrassing took and I would delete for sure, is a photograph took in 2010 by one of my friend. In 2010, I was in high school and if I remember clearly, I was in 10th grade. It was in the afternoon around 2 AM and I was heading to the canteen with my friend, buy some sweet drinks and play cards (Our usual activity). On that day we decided with all the 10th grade of the school to add a tie to our normal uniform (white shirt and blue plant) to look a bit formal. So for that day, one of my friend decided to bring a camera to take photograph of this kind of special day. At the canteen, we were around 10 person playing cards and shouting. It was loudly because everyone bets for the game (the one winning keeps all the bet), and wants to win. It was a very funny, interesting and exciting moment. Everyone was laughing and during all this time one of friend was taking picture of that moment. In all this atmosphere, I laughing like hell and my friend took a photograph at this moment. In that photographs, I’ve got my mouth wide open with all my teeth visible. I think if we look carefully we can see in this my throat.

Meaningful Photographs

Find a photograph in my phone who really mean something to me, I can think of only 3-4 photographs. But lately I got a new photograph sent by my mum. The cutest thing of the world: a photograph of my newly born niece. I saw that photograph when I just woke up and that day was one of the brightest day. During the all day, I was truly happy like no way before. She is my first niece and first granddaughter for my parents and I know she will be a special one based on her mother character. After all this excitement and happiness, I felt a bit sad because I wasn’t there when this big event happened in my family to support them. The end is a bit sad but this photograph represent the most meaningful photograph

FYI: Her name is Anne Emmanuelle Epiphanie and I love her already.

Gatekeeper and Anonymous

After watching the documentary about being anonymous, being watch, a question has been raised: Do you think being watch is a good thing or not?

We are living in a dangerous world where a bomb blow up an entire city. A world ruled by money and power; where internet and the technology play an important rule. We have seen in this documentary that website on the dark web called Silk Road. A website dedicated to drugs and others stuffs. But this website had been shut down because of the work done on the internet by monitoring everything .From this example, I can say that monitoring is good thing due to the level of danger .Monitoring, spy everyone shouldn’t be only for terrorism but everything who may threat the human being life on the internet. Although everything needs a limit, a boundary that should never be crossed. A good example to explain what is limit of the monitoring is the work of a guard. His work is to protect someone but never interfere with the personal life of his employers. That all they need to do just protect us from eventual risk and that’s all. For me, the monitoring is something needed but to an extent.

The next question raised is about anonymity on internet. I think this question is related to the monitoring, the boundaries. No one wants his life exposed on the internet so that some creepy guy can use that against us. The anonymity is legitimate in sense we need to protect our personal information in a world where everything is connected to internet: from the watch to the house.

Mainstream Or Alternative Media?

The mainstream media consist of all our newspapers, radio, television owned by government. In these media, the information are filtered according to what the government wants us to know. In these media, the news given are either half of the truth or propaganda or incorrect. The example of the power of the mainstream is after what happened 9/11. The mainstream media depicts the Muslims as the responsible for what happened there. They used the propaganda to get into the head of every Americans, scare them and make them support what they did in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In the other hand, the alternative media are a countermeasure of the mainstream media. Here the rules are decided by the journalist itself. In the alternative media, the journalist can write everything without fear the censorship .One of the most famous website we can consider like an alternative media is WikiLeaks. The principle of alternative media is to inform people with much more detail and accuracy that a mainstream media will do about something. And I think WikiLeaks follows this principle.  Another alternative media I came across is News Laundry. News laundry in their podcasts ClothesLine depicts with humor and funny stuff the different news in India and around the world. Also in the same category, we have Video Volunteers with their slogan “Empowering Community Voices through Training in Critical Thinking and Creativity”. Basically this alternative media gives the power to the minority with the help of camera, they can show what issues they are facing are. Apart this two Indian alternative media, I wasn’t able to find any others. I found several alternative media for US like AlterNet or Indy media.

WIKILEAKS

WikiLeaks is an international, online, non-profit journalistic organization which publishes secret information, news leaks, and classified media from anonymous sources. WikiLeaks has been found by an Australian internet activist name Julian Assange, actually in the Ecuador embassy in London for political asylum.  The website of WikiLeaks isn’t that user friendly. When I went there for the first time, I didn’t’ know how to find a specific leak. But after some visit there, we can see that on the left side the leaks are divided in country. On a selected leak, we have a summary of the leak and also the document related to it, downloadable.

Times Of India

For the first week assignment I read all 6 English newspaper, not knowing which one to choose. For the second week, I chose the Times Of India (TOI).The Times Of India costs 4.5₨ without and 6₨ with the Bangalore Mirror. The Times Of India comes also with some supplement like Bangalore Time or Bangalore property.

Times Of India was the first newspaper I came across since I’m in India. I didn’t know about the others English newspapers till we talked in class. During the week I read, I really like the coverage of the world cup done in it. At least 3 pages was dedicated to the world cup and for a football fans, this is really interesting to know what was happening. From those world cup pages, I noticed something , the Times Of India gave the news of the not what happened the day before the newspaper came out but  there were talking about what happened two days before.

Next to the world cup pages, I found some articles interesting. Like sir told, newspaper is a good way to learn. And this week, I learned that an entire family was able to commit suicide. I was shocked to see that an entire family can do that, do suicide pact. Even though the life is hard, this not a reason to give up on life like that.

The next article to catch my attention was titled Transgender win DL battle. The article was talking about a transgender who got her driving license. After watching the photo put of the transgender, I remembered her from the Ignitor. During the Ignitor we talked with her about the gender discrimination.

Newspaper

Our first task in Tumblr this semester was about the newspaper. We had to choose one of the six English newspapers published in Bangalore and talked about it during one week.

The different English newspapers published in Bangalore are: The Hindu, Times of India, Deccan Chronicle, Deccan Herald, DNA and Bangalore Mirror. The first thing I noticed with those newspapers was the size. In my country, the newspaper are smaller than that, in the same range of size like the Bangalore mirror. One of my task was to read the newspaper every day during one week. I wasn’t able to get the newspaper every day. I read only the newspaper of Monday, Thursday and Friday. During this three days I read the all six English newspapers Monday and the remaining days I read the Bangalore Mirror, Times of India and Deccan Chronicles.

From the different newspaper I read, a pattern can be visible. The first page or front page where the lead story of the day are displayed and only a part of the articles is written there. Among the 6 newspapers, we have some information are relayed by all of them. For instance, in the Monday newspaper, almost all the newspaper was talking about the meeting between the Chinese foreign Wang Yi and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj. Another article common for the newspaper was the victory of Rafael Nadal in the Open French “Roland Garros”. After the page lead, the newspaper is classified into category: CITY or METRO who covers the news in the city, STATE for the KARNATAKA news, NATION for the different news in India and INTERNATIONAL or GLOBAL for the worldwide news. The page Sport for these newspapers is always on last page but with the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil, some pages are allocated to this world event. On Thursday, I read only three newspaper: Deccan Herald, Bangalore Mirror and Times of india.For most of them, the lead page was on color of the FIFA World Cup who was going to start. The Times of India released a special edition for the FIFA World Cup where we have a scoreboard for all the upcoming coming till the final, exclusive interview of the Albiceleste legend Diego Maradona. On Friday, the Deccan Chronicles and the Times of India front page, the leads stories was the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil and the new CEO of Infosys

The newspapers come with a supplement. The supplement is not that much but the structure of it is kind of the same as the main newspaper. The structure of the supplement present a lead page also with the lead information. For the Deccan Herald, the supplement is called Metrolife; for the Times of India the supplement is Bangalore Time and so on.

My reading pattern is always the same: Starting the front page (Obviously), I read the lead story to see the important news of the day and then I’m looking the sport page. There I read the articles related to Football, Basketball. After the sport page, I’m trying to find an interesting article to read otherwise I’m done with the present newspaper.

Souvenir of TV

Watching television is one of my favorite hobby, watching my favorite movies and shows, watching my footballs games every Saturday and Sunday despite all the home works I have to do for school. But these things are now just a souvenir of all my days in front of our home’s television. Now since I moved in Bangalore I ain’t got the chance of watching a television and bring back the old demons.

As far as I remembered my first experience with a TV Set, I think I should had 7 years old. We had two TV set: one in the living room and one in the parent’s bedroom. The brand of TV in the living room was SHARP, pretty big and full black. My dad made a piece of furniture that taken all the living room with place for the TV, a VCR Recorder where my dad used to play some animation movies for me and my brother but I forgot the name.

The first souvenir when I tried to remember about my first time, it always the same thing. I was in primary school, a weekday and it was around 5 in the morning. I was watching the Ninja turtles, I loved this anime so much , and my mum came and started shouting at me why I was awake at this time, I didn’t know I had class later and I will sleep in class . After she let me watched and told that it was last time she sees me awake at this time. But I did it again a few more times.

I always liked this Japanese anime like Dragon Ball Z, Captain Tsubasa(Flash Kicker)

Favorite actors??

Write about the actors who ever mattered to me was a little bit tricky for me because I never ask myself about that. After thinking about the name of actors I can remember .I remembered that before either 2010 or 2011, I was unable to tell this movie is a Brad Pitt’s movie, or Johnny’s Depp movie, I was just like did you watch the new movie of this guy who is in this or that movie.

I would say the actor who ever mattered to me is a French actor, comedian and producer named Jamel Debbouze. He is quite famous actor and have more than 20 films. He appeared in the movie Chicken with Plums in the scene where the main character bought his new violin, it was the seller.

 I watched 1 or 2 documentary about his life and I am happy to say that work hard, patience, self-confidence, your success is ensured. In this documentary, they shown how he came over his handicap on his end. The story behind his handicap is not so clear. Some people magazines said that he killed his friend by pushing him in front of the train and got hurt and his hand or he is born like this.  Anyway, I like him because he goes through his handicap to be a successful actor and make me   laugh with his different shows.

My Favorite Genre

Over the year I watched around 100 movies from different genres like action, thrillers, comedy, horrors, animation, anime, musical and science-fiction. I like almost all of the movies among these genres. But if I should choose one genres as my favorite genres, I will pick the thrillers movies.

The thrillers movies refers to movies that stimulate the views mood’s such as a high level of anticipation, ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty, anxiety, suspense, excitement, tension and terror. The thrillers movies are sub-divided in different categories (I just learned this today) such as political thrillers, paranoia thrillers, conspiracy thrillers and so on.

I watched several thrillers movies but the most mind blowing thrillers movies for me are Inception came out in 2010 by Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises). The story I simple Dominik Cobb( Leonardo Dicaprio) and Arthur(Jospeh Gordon-Levitt ) are extractor , people capable of extracting an idea , a secret from the subconscious of their victim. But instead of extract, they try to insert an idea in the subconscious of their victim. I don’t how many times I watched this movies but the feelings are the same during the all my screenings. And the last scenes make this movie more uncertain. After watching the movie many times, reading articles and blogs about the movie, the end is always ambiguous and not only for me.

                               The next movie I found very interesting is a movie I watched recently, called Now You See Me came out in 2013 by Louis Leterrier. The story is 4 magicians who don’t know each other are brought together by an unknown benefactor to form a group of magician called the Four Horsemen. The movie is easy to understand, a pleasure to watch with the different magic tricks and Morgan Freeman. The end here is not ambiguous but just bluffing.

        I recommend to watch these movies and also Unstoppable (Denzel Washington), Salt(Angelina Jolie), Limitless (Bradley Cooper), Man on the ledge(Sam Worthington).

Bangalore International Film Festival(BIFFes)

.Bangalore international film festival has been held during the December 26 2013 to January 2 2014. It was the 6th edition of this festival also called BIFFES The screening has been held in seven screens: 3 screens at Fun Cinema,Sigma mall, Cunningham Road; 2 screens at Lido Inox and Halasur; 1 screen at Sulochana, Infantry road and 1 screen at Priyadarshini

Around 152 films from 45 country have been screened during the seven days  the festival The festival held also a some competition with cash prize. That’s what I read from the newspaper. The newspapers gave only one aspect of the BIFFes. But I couldn’t find someone who went to the festival to take his impressions about it because I waited for the last moment to write this post.

A Movie With or With Subtitles?

Watching in a foreign language is something I’m doing very often. But I used to watch with subtitles. Watching a movie in a foreign language is very interesting because it helps to know a new language. But without subtitles this advantage is become a big problem. I had to watch a movie called the Hidden Fortress directed by Akira Kurosowa. The story of this movie was difficult to understand. But the face expression, the gesture of the character was very excellent. Excellent in the way that is it a World cinema and many people of different nationality, culture and languages watched this movie and make easier to understand the different emotions, feelings of the actors. Also a movie can better without subtitles, for example a movie of Mister Bean from Roman Atkinson. It never speak but you can understand what is going on. With all these flags, it was a little bit easy to make up a story in my mind. I could imagine whatever I want during the different scenes. The movie became a more funny than boring.

But the evidence, a movie is better when you can laugh, enjoy the scenes and also understand the story. There are some kind of movies where catch the story is the key to understand the movie.

Multiplex and Single Screen

The task given was to tell what is my opinion about a multiplex cinema and the single screen. Two big questions came over when I was thinking a this post. What is a multiplexer? and How can I give my opinions on something I heard for the first time? Multiplex? Single Screen? The first question wasn’t so tough to find the answer. After searching on google and listening properly in class, the answer was found. But only mystery is solved.

The second question wasn’t so obvious. It requires experience and I don’t have so much experiences when we talk about watching movies in a movie theater. In my country we have some film makers but go the movie theater is not our culture, so it will difficult for me to give an opinion. But since I’m in Bangalore, I went to a movie theater, multiplex but never in a single screen. By reading the different post of my classmate on this topic I made up a mental image of a single screen, the crowd and all that.

My First Movie Experience

My first movie experience in a theater was Alice in a Wonderland. Going to the theater wasn’t a regular activity. You can go but occasionally because it was expensive and the movie wasn’t good. I don’t really remember about much.

So for the first time I went of a theater, it was an outing, activity plan by my elementary school and I can bring back I was in 6th grade. The school told us about this activity one week ago. During the all week I was excited to be on Saturday and watch, even that wasn’t important.

After waiting for one week, my father dropped me in my school and give me some money to buy popcorn and go back home. The school was full of people and you can see that everyone was excited to go there. Because of the number everyone cannot go at the same time so we went by wave into the school bus. During the journey to the theater I could not stopping think about how the theater will be? Which movie were we going to watch? and we were not there? We went to a theater called “L’IVOIRE” and it was in a hotel called “HOTEL IVOIRE”.

After waiting till all the students got to the place where the theater was, the supervisors told us to take a seat; the seat was comfortable, the huge screen in front of us, bluffy. And the movie started, the room was becoming more and darker. And everyone started shouting, not for fear but of happiness. I remembered I started smiling and this smile happens only when I’m doing something new and I’m happy.

 The movie Alice in a wonderland wasn’t new for me but the only thing to watch in a theater and with my friend left a good memory.
