Gina froze when she realized someone was watching.  Her face went bright red as she seemed to curl up.  "Yeah, well. I'm just practicing."
Tumblr media
Gina had been day dreaming, hearing music in her head, which was a rare blessing to just escape the walls of Litchfield, if only in her head.  It started when her head began to bob, up and down as if to a beat.  Then she just began to move, as if no one were watching.  It was late, so no one was in the hallway at that time so she went for it and began to slide backward on her feet.

Gina saw the orange jump suit when she entered the cafeteria.  More newbies.  Still, Gina kept serving the food to keep the line flowing as she was assigned to do.  So long as this newcomer didn't start trouble, then Gina had no beef with her.  instead she would help her out, she was one of them after all, giving her just a bit more food on her tray when she came by.
Pat couldn’t comprehend the situation, transferred from a Grade-A prison in Oxford, to a federal institution in New York! She laughed at the flippant thought that ran through her head, “I should’ve done it sooner.” The voice behind instructed her to hurry up and pick up her items…merely an Orange jumpsuit, a pityful excuse for slippers (or whatever they called them here,) a towel, and jacket. She wrapped the items up in the towel, slung it over her shoulder, and walked towards what was to be her home for the next God knows how long.
Every single hurdle that life threw at her, she overcame, she jumped over. She just hoped this new chapter in her life would be another one of them hurdles, or would it?
"Lunch time Kerrigan. You go in here, eat, then you’ll get assigned to your dorm." The guy with the awkward looking moustache spoke and held open one of the canteen doors. Pat stepped inside.

Gina was quiet for a moment, but nodded as she took her paper back. "Well there are like, yoga classes and stuff so why not an actual class if you got people to want to do it."  She looked down at her edited letter for a beat before shrugging as if it was no big deal. "Just saying.  Whatever."
"Oh-" she paused digging into her pants, pulling out a large Snickers bar. "For the letter."

Welcome to prison, Chapman.
Yeah, seriously.

It’s not even dinner time yet. It’s like an episode of Gossip Girl in here.

Not that Gina was actually interested in going back to school, in prison at least, but it did look good to people who would get her out of there.
"Someone said you were trying to do that.  Like, teach people." She inquired then.  "Because you've been to college."  A beat. "Yeah I don't know many people in here who've been and could actually do that." Sometimes she thinks Norma had, but well, she wasn't one to talk about it.

"Furthering my education and career- yeah, yeah." Gina leaned in and saw the note Piper wrote on the paper, nodding enthusiastically at the comment.   "Though they won't know that there isn't actually a GED program here, would they?" Gina wasn't even sure who 'they' were to begin with, let alone what 'they' might know.

Books
For once Gina could be found browsing the prison library, walking down the tight isles, fingers running over the bindings of the books as her eyes glaze over them.  Every so often she would stall and narrow her eyes or tilt her head as if trying to read and process the title, but still never picked anything up.  It truly was one of the quieter places in the prison and for that it, was actually quite peaceful.
She seemed to be mumbling something to herself before she ran right into (nearly tripping) someone she hadn't seen in her path.

"What do you win?" was Gina's first question when she heard Vause bring up a challenge.  She hadn't heard of it, but she was intrigued.
Challenges || OPEN
Alex loved dares. Her favorite party game as a teenager had always been truth or dare, no questions about it. There weren’t many opportunities to do things like that in Litchfield, but Nicky had shown her the saltine challenge and that was pretty entertaining. She remembered hearing something about a similar challenge involving cinnamon a few years ago that was popular on the internet. She had never tried it, leaving that sort of thing to the bored pre-teens with an internet connection. Now, she was definitely interested in trying it, if just to break up the monotony.
She managed to get a small container of cinnamon from the kitchen with the promise that she would return it by the end of the day. She clutched her prize in her hands and she sought out someone to take the dare with her. “Have you ever heard of the Cinnamon Challenge?” she asked her, hopefully, accomplice.

"Nah, they say otherwise 'cause they just don't care." She took another long swig from the can before passing it back.  "Don't care what our morale is."

"So they told you," Gina had to snicker. "Try like 4 more days." That was the reality of the process around there.

Gina moved in but didn't sit on Piper's bed - she didn't want spying eyes to see anything and spread something that wasn't true.   She nodded at Piper's feedback, "Oh- yeah, that's good." Damn, this woman was so smart. Bystander just sounded so professional.
"Well I worked for them-" she began before realizing that Piper wasn't necessarily asking for an explanation, she was simply making a suggestion. "Oh. Yeah. I had reasons to be there."
"I was told never to write 'guilty' in there because then you're like admitting it." The real reason was that you didn't want to put the word in the mind of the reader, but Gina felt confident in her interpretation. "What about the ending- you said the GED program might be reopening, should I put that in there?"  Gina had a way of hearing things even if through the cracks.  "That I'm working on my education to be ready when I get out?"

"Mm-" Gina grumbled as she felt her whole body ache.  She took her time then to unlace her shoes and take them off so that she could eventually lie in her bed.
"Still?" Gina hadn't really kept up on any of the romantic happenings around the prison since she had returned. However it wasn't as if gossip was hard to come by in prison.  "I heard- she broke up with...some fiancee before - she went in...into the SHU."  Explained why little Miss Blonde College would snap like she did on Pennsatucky.

"Stop me." Nicky retorted, knowing the woman didn’t have the strength to do more than grumble.
As Murphy mentioned Piper, Nicky considered it. She new prisoner was pretty smart, after all. But still, Nicky recalled the way she was in shop and shook her head. “Chick couldn’t even turn on a lamp, let alone a fridge. I’ll talk to her about it, though. Maybe it’ll get her to stop pining over Vause.”

"Don't call- me...that,"  Of course Nicky had started that nickname for her.  The other inmates thought it was funny or just so cute.  If she had much more strength she would have said more to illustrate her irritation, but she just didn't have it in her.
"Chapman-" Gina spit out, slowly raised her head, although she couldn't necessarily focus on anything. "She's super...smart- she could...fix it.  Better than, uh, Luschek." Chapman seemed to actually read things, she really proved her worth even if Gina was still skeptical of her at times.
Event I Part II | Open
Murphy didn’t exactly have hair for Nicky to hold back, so when the woman doubled over, the long haired prisoner patted her back lightly, albeit slightly awkwardly. “Don’t upchuck on my shoes now, Squirrel.”
Hearing that it was the fridge’s fault, Nicky scoffed. “Of course, and they didn’t even bother to call in electric until after it broke. If they bothered to get someone other than us and our fucking drunken watcher to look at shit like that, it’d probably stop breaking.”
