Sopping wet creature successfully protected her children from a sudden thunderstorm. I wasn't home, or I would have brought them in, but she must have not been close enough to the coop to get in before the downpour started. Rather than risk her kids getting wet and chilling, she chose to stay put over them and get wet, herself.

I know it's hormones, and I know it's instinct, and I know it's been done billions and billions of times by billions and billions of birds because evolution has made them that way.

But really, what is love except the experience of hormones/brain chemicals and the instinct to protect those you care for, even when it means you are inconvenienced? What is love, if not the universe spending millions of years crafting your very genes into patterns that tell you to lend your wings to covering those in need to protect them?

or maybe it's just how momentarily excited you get to take a little bite out of the critters bouncing around in front of you, and how you don't, because they're your children.
