saya’s tattoo process is known as irezumi, a traditional japanese tattoo. it’s usually done by hand using wooden handles and metal needles attached via silk-thread. irezumi requires special ink called naraink. this process is usually painful and time consuming because it’s done by a limited amount of tattoo artists. the shading and coloring is done in weekly visits. the artist usually signs the tattoo. the artist’s signature is typically on the back. saya has a suit done for her. two important features to note for saya’s tattoos are:

shichibu: 3/4 sleeve tattoo which goes to the midforearm

munewari sōshinbori: full body tattoo with the opening on the chest

        sometimes she envies maria, saya could never let herself feel so freely, so MUCH. emotions is a COMMODITY that she can’t afford & she can’t have enemies exploit that weakness. aren’t they both killing themselves ? of their own actions, a disease of caring too much & caring too little. there’s a small squeeze of her hand, since she’ll let maria see the pieces of herself she REFUSES anyone else to see.  ❝  i had nightmares about the COP i killed when i grabbed marcus. ❞ her free hand runs through short locks, FULL scarlet lips utter words she doesn’t admit so easily.  ❝  i’m not that cold. ❞

        HIS QUESTION STRIKES A SWIFT BLOW TO HER HEART.  IS IT A SUCKER PUNCH? IS IT THE QUICK SLICE OF HER BLADE RUNNING THROUGH HER ENEMY’S FLESH? saya’s indifference is the air she breathes, the smoke that fills her nostrils. she is nothing but light-footed, a wispy smoke that no one can seem to catch up to. sometimes she forgets to EXHALE all the emotions within her. they can be a bad smoker’s cough. loneliness is her greatest friend, her ONLY friend in a world that shows nothing but cruelty. so what is she trying to teach marcus ?

       maybe she’s trying to save him, drown in her own HOLY WATER of ghosts that tell her she’s inhuman, she’s not really a girl. she’s never been a girl. somehow she’s become a MYTH, among the students, among her family who see nothing but dishonor. saya cared too much, that’s the truth but... she can never linger more than a SNAP of fingers, saya will always be far out of reach. she needs to be an IMPOSSIBLE distance no one can travel to, a star, a MOON that everyone can gaze upon. 

     but he doesn’t know, he won’t know that she can let her vulnerability dance around the beating of her heart. her loneliness is her ocean. ❝  why should i care ?❞ it’s typical saya, a DEFLECTION of a question with another one. ❝  you’re my pledge, your actions affect mine. you’re my RESPONSIBILITY to bear.❞ so she’ll play the asshole, it’s easier than letting someone in. ❝that’s all.❞ her cold words drop like snowfall.
