MIA
It would have been kinder and more believable to have Jay MIA than what we got.
Writers using the characters love and the shows fans love, to traumatise our faves and ‘bait’ the fans. Any media flurry good, bad or controversial keeps the show at the forefront.
So my protest is silence…. Logging out

You can’t keep staying invested in a show that you can’t enjoy anymore.
Having something be devastating shouldn’t be the reason you stay invested. That hope is damaging and we are the ones having to pick up the pieces of that.
I can sure as hell say that I didn’t like the episode for the words on the page and I know I’m not the only one. I’ve been saying for months that the reason why I’m halfway out the door is BECAUSE of the words on the page.
Gia did a fantastic job, visually the script did come to life, and to keep her career blossoming she has to defend them. That’s the part that sucks. That woman has immense talent and joy for the craft. And Gwen is a woman in a male dominated field. She should (in theory) understand the dynamics at play.
I think this shows us as fans that Gwen doesn’t know or care what we want to see anymore. She has her own agenda as showrunner and that’s paramount to her, even though we are the ones at the end of the day that keep the show alive.
There’s always going to be a breaking point and I think this is where this show has lost the viewers trust. We’ve trusted this show to bring us the exciting stories week after week, but this isn’t what we want to see anymore and that’s a decision that we get to make.
And I feel like that’s the power we have that can sometimes get forgotten as fans. The views can make or break a show. And as much as I find this nuanced, you can’t force yourself to enjoy something if it’s changed to a point where you no longer recognize it.
If only Gwen understood the value of a happy audience. That human connection. The joy of this show is just gone, the characters don’t have happy moments they just struggle and that’s not sustainable in a lot of ways.
The only thing tying us to this show is the nostalgia of what we know this show used to be, and the potential that it has to be great again.
The question I keep asking myself is how long am I willing to break my own heart for the nostalgia of something that no longer exists???
My happiness matters more. My joy means more to me than a possibility that may come in 6 months or not at all.
The show has changed. There’s really no disputing that fact any longer. And with that the question looms of are we willing to blindly follow a pattern that no longer benefits us??

You know what really hurts?
What really hurts is that as trauma-led and sad as the writing has been this season, I completely get why Hailey is feeling this way, and I am really annoyed that they put Jay in a position where they wrote his character doing things that are making her feel insecure. It really could have been so different.
I know we are all justifying it, saying well he is doing it to be better and to come back a better man, but the reality is…he completely made a call focused on himself and then informed his wife. In her shoes, not only is this hurtful, the amount of insecurity and trauma this has stirred up has got to be monumental.
Just because he said he would always be there does not mean that these insecurities just go away:
Tumblr media
Also, when he admitted he was feeling unsure she jumped in to support him. Assuring him they would get through it together. His answer was, “I took the job”.
Followed by a version of “If you love me, you’ll understand”
Tumblr media
I’l sorry guys. I adore Jay Halstead with my whole heart and I have been the first in line to rationalize these actions. But realistically, this was the moment she wanted to stand together and help support him and figure it out together the way he had been there for her. And he runs? I know they are still married. I know she is the love of his life. I know he is doing it to come back stronger to her forever.
But they are continuing to write this crazy OOC shit like him not calling or being reachable or in touch, and that makes no sense and serves no purpose other than to further hurt Hailey.
Why couldn’t they have just had him teach at the academy….and come home to each other…and have shower sex before work. That would have been too much to ask…

I get it, it’s just television.
But when you pick up a good book, you surrender to the imaginative world of your characters and are taken on a journey discovery, through chapters about life and love.
And then we have the visual world of story telling.
…we fell in love with UpSteads love. Their story a compilation of moments, long glances, wordless communication, an underlying connection. We survived, lived on so little crumbs and yet they captivated us. Their thing was a science right?  5 seasons of growth, character evolution, from their indifference, to a partnership, friendship and love.  To being each other’s person, unwavering from the start, navigating hurdles, but unable to deny what was true, to be where we are now?
It’s been a dialogue of contradictions and turning their story against itself, which has you questioning the integrity and point of seasons past.
From crumbs to crumbling.
I hope the writers still love UpStead as much as their fans do🙏🏻❤️

Asking my favorite PD related pages this: if you could have written Jay’s departure, what would you have done?
First of all, I’m honored🫶🏼
Second of all, ohh boy. Are we talking under the same conditions—aka 3 episodes in & no or uncertain likelihood of Jesse’s return? If so, here’s my three episode break down following s9:
10x01: I wouldn’t have changed the commendations. I think that was the logical outcome of the Escano case (Anna situation aside), and I enjoyed seeing them all together and in their blues. I would’ve had Voight off the job still with Jay unofficially spearheading the unit in the meantime. At the ceremony, instead of having Jay cover for Voight, I would’ve had the chief throwing off a comment about him being impressed with how seamlessly he took over for the team. They’d have a case, it’d wrap up well, and the episode would end with the team going out for drinks to celebrate the commendations - they invite Voight, but he doesn’t show up and it fades out to Jay glancing over at the empty chair they saved for Voight.
10x02: Voight would be back at work, but there would be a TON of rifts. A lot of it would be him dealing with the Anna stuff, but also the team readjusting to him calling shots instead of Jay. They’d have a high stakes case that would trigger Voight’s recklessness, Jay would try to reel him back in, but would ultimately be unsuccessful. This would be an upstead heavy episode, so I would have a home scene of them talking about what they should do about Voight. Hailey would try to say there’s nothing they can do, Jay would push back a little like he did in the finale—say he could try to save him from himself, but the conversation would end with them not fully reaching a resolution for how to move forward with Voight. Hailey would play a big role in this ep. She would be a voice of reason for the both of them as they work the case and manage Voight’s actions (kinda like she did in the actual s10 premiere).
10x03: Jay gets called to the Chief’s office. He again brings up being impressed with Jay’s leadership in Voight’s absence, and he asks if he’s considered what he wants his future at cpd to look like. Jay says he’s unsure, and the chief recommends he take the sergeant’s exam because the sergeant of another unit is retiring and he thinks he’d be a good fit. He immediately gets called onto a case, so he doesn’t get to fully think about it or talk it over with Hailey. This case hits close to home for Voight for whatever reason, and they find themselves butting heads again - Jay trying his best to keep him in line and Hailey trying to be the metaphorical line for the both of them. Voight ends up doing something that makes them have to cover for each other and that’s when Jay makes his decision. Hailey is super supportive of him moving up, but a little sad that she won’t have her partner anymore. He tells her how important it is that she stay in Intelligence because it’s gonna need a leader one day when Voight’s gone (a cute little parallel of him passing along the baton Voight gave him in s6).
In this scenario, Jay stays in Chicago and Hailey doesn’t have to go home to an empty apartment every night. Three episodes wasn’t nearly enough to give Jesse the exit he deserved, but it certainly was enough to do literally anything other than what they actually did. And I will forever be upset about that, so dreaming up this much more sensible alternative was very cathartic for me.

10.1 re-watch
Not going to lie, I got season 9 premiere vibes. Only this time, the one spiralling, is Voight. And Jay has taken a notable step back. Did anyone notice, it was what Jay WASN’T saying🤔 unless needing to.
Voights last scene, with UpStead, when he said WE need to talk, but only did the talking and they listened. I know Jay asked if they were good, because of what Voight said, but honestly I didn’t feel together they weren’t good. What wasn’t good, was what they were feeling with Voight. For different reasons.
I think it’s important to note that Voight said to Anna, he only has this job. But it was obvious he had, could of been, might have been and yet again lost Anna. She was like a daughter, yes his informant, but on the odd occasions those lines were blurred. He started to feel something, to care. But his perception that what he has, would be the same for UpStead is wrong. Voight makes a bad decision no one like, it’s affects him and him alone is wrong. It affects the Unit and his ability to lead. And if Jay or Hailey as we have seen (s9), make a bad choice, it is not just the team and an angry Sarge, but it’s seeing someone you love deeply, hurting. Something, someone, somewhere has to give. Jay stepping back, and his character being unusual quiet & reflective in this premiere, is him working that all out. He will never be upset about choosing to marry her. Being her partner, is how they discovered each other. So the next step, although the hardest after being a constant presence, would be to protect what means most.
Hope some of it makes sense, or just snippets. But I can see Jay being transferred to a special task force, or training cadets, given his initial introduction to Torres. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

my take on what’s coming💥
I could be 🤡, but what if..
…we are losing UpStead, our partners in crime, but will still have Jay & Hailey Halstead. Just saying, hoping, praying. Because my heart cannot take anything less.
And well out on the job, where lives are at risk, the one she would follow blind, is no more. She will have to lean more on the team and trust her instincts..

Getting accounts blocked!! They’re really doing this?  WTH
No matter your preference, treating your fans and ultimately people that make you money, like this and dragging your chain on a statement, interview or anything respectful for a well-loved character to kill the speculation, pain and heartbreak, lacks any empathy or a resemblance of emotion for your viewers.
Yeah I get it, it’s just a show. But from what I’ve seen, people have overcome struggles, felt emotions, formed connections and fell in love, with love again, because of this show and a ship that was never penned to be.
Jeez, professionalism is only ever endearing if upheld with honesty and integrity.
S10 is about to drop, so time to step up … the fans the world over are waiting⏱

I have a question?
To become a Sargeant, do you have to receive a recommendation, do any away training, sit an exam, or is it professional progression?? Asking because I want to believe this is the ONLY sl I will accept for a Jay Halstead exit. Only one Halstead in the unit, but knowing they have each other away from Voight, will be ok with me❤️ See Jay at 200

sorry
But seeing Hailey staring, reminiscing about Jay on the edge of her desk, is all I need to know I don’t want an OC PD universe, where Jay Halstead is no more💔 this past month has been nothing but heartache for me personally, so I cannot and will not do this. #myupsteadheart #
