Bing’s house with two rooms is an example of a topological space that is contractible, but not in an obvious way. “Contractible” means that you can continuously shrink the space into a single point, without tearing or gluing parts together. For instance, a solid disk is contractible while a circle is not. The house of two rooms is contractible as well, although it doesn’t really appear to be! The blog Sketches of Topology gives a great visualisation, and there is also a Geogebra 3D sketch.

The girl in front of me during the lecture today was dipping butter-filled pretzels in hot chocolate. I am scarred for life.
