Random headcanons abt Levi's life outside the walls.

OK BUT realistically speaking, the world inside the walls and the world outside speak different languages (just like countries have different languages) and when Levi first started to live outside he heavily relied on Falco, Gabi and Onyankopon for support because NOBODY UNDERSTANDS SHIT HES SAYING AND HE GETS SO.FRUSTRATED. so long story short, he starts getting language lessons from Onyankopon.

And he learns really fast. So one day they're outside, Falco pushing his wheelchair while talking to Gabi, stumbling over his words trying to tell her that she looks pretty and Levi can almost FEEL THE AIR GETTING SWEETER with that gross smell of kids in love. So he opens the newspaper that was sitting on his lap, and reads.

AND JUST IMAGINE LEVI'S FACE WHEN HE FINDS OUT ABT ZODIAC SIGNS. Falco tells him he's a capricorn and he's like "???wtf that even means". Now he often asks them what signs a person has if they're born on x date, and tries to match the description with his deceased friends' personalities.

The amount of cleaning products....HMMMMMM LEVI LITERALLY LOVES THIS SIDE OF IT. But don't get me wrong, it's become even harder to please him now that he has so many options.

Falco and Gabi remind him of Farlan and Isabell in a lot of ways. He treasures them a lot. He doesn't see his other kids as frequently because they're always travelling now, and he also doesn't see Historia or Mikasa because they're living in Paradis, but they exchange letters.

At first it was really awkward and he didn't know what to say, so the kids started writing questions so he could have an idea of what to write back. "Do you like it there?" "Are the kids too annoying?" "We're still your favorites, right?" "Do you pee sitting now?" The letters are scattered throughout the year and take a long time to arrive, and Levi keeps each and every one in a box.

He still has the box where he keeps the pieces of the wings of freedom from his comrades' capes. He's thinking of a nice spot to bury them.

He still has Hanji's jacket. He's conflicted because he doesn't wanna use it and wear it out, but he also thinks if he wears it outside, then maybe Hanji'll see a little bit of the free world.

THE VARIETY OF TEAS????? that's literally all he drinks all day. He goes to a teashop and is set on trying every flavor before he dies.

Somedays, it's difficult for him to do things. He gets sadder, and his heart gets heavier, and whenever that happens, Falco and Gabi just make him a cup of tea, and they all sit around the table just drinking, silently. When it doesn't go away, they ask what's wrong but he won't say. Then Onyankopon finally gets home and asks what's wrong, and Levi says that... He feels scared that once he dies, the story of his comrades will die too. That no one will know about the loyalty of his squad, about the geniality of his Commanders, about the hardwork and sacrifice of all of his friends.

So Onyankopon tells him to write. Write their stories, and Levi does. And once be finishes, Onyankopon promises that one day, when the world is a little better, these stories will be heard. That their work, and their sacrifice won't be forgotten. Levi's thankful.

Gabi and Falco have bad days too. Because even though they abandoned the life of soldiers, the scars of what they did still follow them around. But it isn't too hard to deal with, because Levi gives them great advice. A little rough around the edges and it always takes them a while to understand his point, but it's always easier with Levi around because he knows what it's like to be so young, and hurt so much.

They go through each day slowly, together. Gabi often messes with Levi and SPEEDS THE WHEELCHAIR AND LEVI THINKS HES ABOUT TO DIE but they all have fun. Levi sets a great example of what a person should be.

Onyankopon learns a lot from him. Not that Levi's trying to teach anybody anything, but even so Onyankopon stills learns a lot about Levi's world, and about the way Levi sees the world. They exchange stories. It takes him a long time, but Levi finally tells them the story of his life.

Some days are bright and fast and he barely has time to think, because Gabi just tried to cook dinner and Falco mistook bleach for water. Other days he likes to just sit by the porch, then stand and stretch because "my ass is getting square" and just watch the planes in the sky. When the sun sets, Gabi huffs and tells him to get inside because

"you're not that old yet."

Levi throws her a deadly glare and says that

"i'll emancipate you."

Armin: The Hero of A Future Story

Eren has stated twice that Armin is the one who will save humanity.

However, the one who truly solves the conflict is not him, but Mikasa:

Not only that, but humanity is still not saved:

Has Armin then failed to live up to everyone’s hope just like Eren did? Was the role of hero too much for him to handle?

Not really:

Armin is the hero, but not the hero of this story, but of a future one we are not being told.

Ironically, the final chapter is where he really steps in the role which has been foreshadowed for him since Erwin’s death and that Hange’s choice has cemented:

Armin is meant to guide others, but not just in the final battle (and his role is still key in it). He is meant to guide them towards a better future.

In other words, he is the new Helos the world needs:

Still, Helos embodies physical strength and war prowess, while Armin embodies its opposite:

It is not by chance that Armin starts the story and ends it by being the one defusing a conflict. Not only that, but both times he argues for the humanity of people seen by others as monsters.

Armin will be the hero who will settle the conflict between Paradis and the world specifically because he is able to see the beauty behind the monstrosity. This is the meaning of his last conversation with Eren.

Throughout it Armin keeps asking Eren if he did all of it really just for his loved ones’ sake. He keeps wondering if Eren really had to go this far and asks him to look for another way, if he really wants to live.

Eren’s answer is to show him the horrors of the Rumbling and to admit that a part of him really wanted to do it:

Eren wants to “turn all the earth in a brand new land”. This declaration is extremely tragic when compared to all the beautiful things Armin is admiring while he talks with Eren. And the Rumbling itself taking the place of the ocean the two friends were in just a few moments before is the cherry on top.

The ocean was their dream and a symbol of freedom. Still, in Eren’s mind this dream got wasted and turned into the desolation of the Rumbling. This is the scenery Eren ends up seeing and associating with freedom.

Still, even in the ruins of such a scenery, which are nothing, but the ruins of Eren’s mind… Armin is still able to find some glimps of humanity:

He finds the seashell, which is the symbol of their childhood dream. It is a glimpse of beauty in this hellish landscape. Armin listens to Eren’s desperation and sadness. He understands how broken he is and gives him back some of his humanity:

This is why Armin thanks Eren. He is not thanking him for the Rumbling… he is honestly not even thanking him for “his heart being in the right place”. He has just been told it was not.

Armin is thanking Eren because Eren needs it, He needs to be understood and to have his pain aknowledged.

Eren is calling himself a monster, while Armin answers that he is not. He is just a human:

So, Armin is the new Helos in a sense, but also his opposite and we see it in the finale as well:

Helos and the Tyburs lied for generations, while Armin wants to tell the truth immediately. The Alliance going to Paradis is a foil to the Tyburs going to Liberio.

The Tyburs made their announcement after the world has already spiralled too much for a tragedy to be avoided. Moreover, Tybur’s speech is meant to start a war. Armin wants to openly tell his story to try and build some stable peace and to unite the world once again.

Armin is the one who will go beyond the walls (aka human barriers) and will guide humanity towards a future Eren could not see:

That is because Armin has always been able to see something Eren could not:
