Stained glass window dedicated to the 101st Airborne paratroopers in the church at Angoville-au-Plain, Manche, Normandy, France.

This church, which served as an aid station during the Battle of Normandy in World War II, was tended by US Army Medics Robert Wright and Ken Moore of the 101st Airborne, treating 80 wounded soldiers, both American and German, as well as a child, with blood stains still visible on the pews.

Today, two stained glass windows commemorate the bravery of the 101st Airborne Division and the American parachutists, specifically honoring the two medics from the 2nd Battalion of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment (101st Airborne Division).

If your interest in reptiles comes from the pet hobby, you probably know these guys as sulcata tortoises- but if your interest comes from the zoo world, you're more likely to know them as African spurred tortoises, or African spur thighed tortoises. Bud here is showing off why! See those spurs on his legs? It's theorized that those are to help defend against predators. When a tortoise like this tucks into its shell, the spurs stick out and present an uncomfortable area to bite.

What's interesting to me is that the spurs that they're named after are actually the ones on their hind legs, even though they're much smaller than the big spikes on their front legs, which you can see quite clearly on Bub below:

Russia started a war that’s killed over a million people. Russian diplomats aren’t murdered. China runs concentration camps. Chinese diplomats aren’t targeted. Iran funds terrorism across the globe. Iranian diplomats aren’t gunned down. Turkey bombs civilians and jails dissidents. Turkish diplomats aren’t hunted. Sudan is collapsing in genocide and famine. Sudanese diplomats aren’t executed. Pakistan harbors terrorists and persecutes minorities. Pakistani diplomats aren’t ambushed. Syria used chemical weapons on its own people. Syrian diplomats aren’t shot outside museums. North Korea starves its citizens and threatens nuclear war. North Korean diplomats aren’t attacked. The list is endless. But out of all these countries, only Israel provokes such obsessive hatred that someone would throw away their entire life just to murder two innocent Israelis in their 20s. Today is a terribly sad day. May their memories be a blessing.
