2025 calendar for Lukadrien June!
As a reminder, we're doing 15 prompts for the month! So that means, there's a prompt for every other day. A gentle reminder that you don't have to do every prompt or even do them on their assigned days. Go crazy and have fun with the prompts.
Rules:
This is a salt free event. This includes harsh criticisms of the show, characters, ships or fandoms involved. Any kind of hate will not be tolerated and will not be reblogged. Please be respectful.
Fics, art, playlists, edits, cosplay and other creative mediums are all welcome. Please make sure to tag us properly so we can reblog your hard work.
No AI - generated content. It's a safety factor for us as creators to not allow AI to learn how we do things and show our own creativity instead of relying on a program. We ask that you respect that by posting things you have created yourself. A reminder that you don't need to feel rushed to post on the day and turn to AI programs to finish or start your work. We're more than happy with whatever you can produce naturally.
We ask that there be no poly ships that include Lukadrien. There are other events that would cover ships such as those and we want to focus on just these two. Feel totally free to have other couples in your posts, but we ask the main focus be on Lukadrien.
As such, alternate personas of the boys are allowed, so feel free to add them in.
The tags for this event are #lukadrienmonth, #lukadrienjune2025, #lukadrienjune. We also ask that you tag the blog @lukadrienmonth
We will allow NSFW, but please have it under ‘Keep Reading’ line and properly tag it with #lukadreinmonthNSFW
If your submissions has a spoiler from a recent episode, please tag or make a note of it. While this mod stopped at S3, a lot of people are still watching the show through. I'll try to keep an eye on when the episodes are released to let you know what episode has been released, so you can tag accordingly.
And finally, have fun! As mentioned, you don’t have to post everyday or even use the prompts given for the day it’s assigned.
Prompts listed below cut.
Day 1-2: Kwami Swap
Day 3-4: Sunshine
Day 5-6: Childhood Friends
Day 7-8: Tutor
Day 9-10: Villain Couple
Day 11-12: Clothing Swap

The judo key scene in the Mark of Athena always gives me food for thought.
On the one hand, I understand that Annabeth wasn't thinking logically, that she was restless or worried but seeing her attack Percy didn't seem fair to me.
As you say, it wasn't a strategic or wise move, it was a girl taking it out on someone after being RAPTURED and taken away without their knowledge or consent.
If Rick wanted to make Annabeth look wise or tough, why not put her before the senate explaining the plan against Gea? Or training with Percy shortly after they reunite? That, to my mind, would have looked better.
Annabeth, in my view, has trouble controlling her emotions, even when she should do it for the sake of the mission, I partly understand it, she is a teenager but, attacking Percy like that didn't make her look tough or wise, but rather impulsive and aggressive.
She was not a leader, she was a reckless and untrustworthy person.
No matter how much she kissed Percy before, putting Percy in a wrestling headlock is still aggression, she endangered the mission, she endangered Percy and she could have provoked a war.
So, no. It wasn't a wise or strategic move by Annabeth. It was a moment where one person who doesn't know how to control herself punished another for something she had no control over and no fault in.
Percy didn't want to leave her and didn't even plan to. Annabeth attacking and threatening him was out of line and contradicts what he intended to achieve in the first place: an alliance with Rome.
That could have ended badly and it would have been her fault alone.
No, Rick. This is bad writing.
Alright, I know I've talked about the judo flip already, but seeing how Rick commented on it, I can't not respond because it's laughable at best and stupid and horrible writing at worst.
So, Rick says that Annabeth judo-flipping Percy is a "strategic move" on Annabeth's end. It shows how "strong and quick-witted" and "a wonderful, bold leader" she is.
I... I'm sorry.
WHAT?!
I had to reread and ensure I'm not misinterpreting anything, but nope! I'm not. It's real. Rick seriously said and believes Annabeth was being wise and all that dumb shit.
Rick, are you fucking kidding me?
I said this will be short and I'll try to keep my word.
Mister Riordan, if you seriously think Annabeth judoflipping Percy makes her
strong
quick witted
excellent strategist
bold and good leader
Then, I have news for you. YOU'RE WRONG.
1.) That's NOT what makes you a good leader. Intimidating and beating up your comrades is not good leadership or wise. It's fucking psychotic and creates a stressful, hostile, and horrible work environment. Annabeth would have people on their damn toes and fearful around her, and if there is another ship nearby, they'll most certainly abandon her and join the other team. Hell, you kinda show how stressful she is to be around with PERCY.
It doesn't make her wise because she's putting Percy in an uncomfortable and painful situation, along with showing enemies like Gaea where his curse spot is to better hurt him, but she almost started another war with the Greeks and Romans. Thank the gods Reyna, Jason, and Percy were actually good leaders, and prevented that from happening.
And before I get people saying "he doesn't have the curse spot!"--- Yes, I know he doesn't have it anymore, but SHE DID NOT KNOW THAT AND WAS WILLING TO PUT PERCY AND THEIR MISSION IN JEOPARDY.
It doesn't make her quick-witted or a good strategist because there are other ways--- Hold on. What the fuck was the point of the judo flip? To intimidate the other side? Well, that worked and nearly caused another war—something Percy can not afford. It doesn't make her strong either. It makes her abusive and controlling.
A good leader not only plans for the inevitable but also ensures that this plan is coherent and will provide the best outcome. They wouldn't risk their comrades' safety and would inform their teammates what to do. Last, they wouldn't physically harm their mates because they're angry and can't control their emotions.
Annabeth has much to learn if she believes that makes her a good leader, let alone a good teammate.
Now, if the judoflip was PLANNED, then that would be a different story, because at least Percy is expecting it... But it wasn't, which leads me to number 2
2.) What was the purpose? We never saw Annabeth plot in her head or give us a reason behind her judoflipping him--- actually, we do, and I'll get there. Moving on, this wasn't a plan. Not a coherent one, at least. If this were a plan, how come Percy doesn't know? "Because they want to make it real!" Okay. How come the others don't know? You'd think Jason, Piper, Leo, or someone would comment on Annabeth's plan. Hell, they'll probably comment on how fucking horrible and risky her plan is. Either way, you failed to put that information there, Rick. If this is Annabeth's way of plotting, which I don't think it is, then you've done a terrible job showing that. Because the audience and PERCY believe she's being serious, which she was. That's another thing. If this was a plan and Percy doesn't know the plan, why doesn't Annabeth apologize and tell him this was a skit? Gonna say it again: BECAUSE IT WASN'T.
Last and not least,
3.) Rick, I have a feeling you regret writing that judo flip scene. That's why you're trying to pull an Isayama and rewrite what happened, hoping the fans will be naïve and believe that shit. And I have to say, it's horrible to insult the intelligence of your audience.
Annabeth never thought about Romans vs Greeks, nor did she think about Gaea. Because that's not what you wrote. Annabeth judoflipped Percy because she was ANGRY at him for leaving her. It's in the book that YOU WROTE. It literally said in the scene that she did not care about what else was happening around her. She judoflipped Percy because she's angry at him. Literally, she says, "If you ever leave me again, I swear to the Gods,". IT'S RIGHT THERE. Everyone can go read it. Fuck, YOU should reread it. Nowhere does it say she's plotting or thinking about Gaea and anything else. She only thought about taking Percy and hiding somewhere while also being extremely angry at him for 'leaving her', so she takes her anger out on him. Hell, Percy tells Grover that he's trying to MAKE IT UP to Annabeth for leaving her.
Again, what good leader leaves their comrades in the dark? What good leader HURTS their teammates because they're angry and can't control their emotions?
You're trying to rewrite this shitty scene and make Annabeth and her gross actions look heroic and justifiable. Trying to make percabeth seem good and healthy, and it's pissing me off. Can't you just admit that she fucked up and should not have done that? Instead, you have to lie and act like she's this 'great leader that's so strong and wise' and try to rewrite your mistakes.
I know I'm being a cunt right now, but I can not stand this type of shit. Just admit that Annabeth was wrong and shouldn't have done that. Judoflip will NEVER be good or moral because she didn't do it to be good and 'strategic'. She did it to hurt Percy. That's it.
You can try to rewrite this all you want, but we got the copies, and they show Annabeth is a terrible leader and, most importantly, a terrible, abusive girlfriend to Percy.
Alright, rant over. Goodnight.

Say it louder! That behavior from Annabeth struck me as highly immature, no matter how much of a teenager she was dealing with things. It was out of line and also not smart at all.RED was needed for the mission and Annabeth should have put the mission before her tantrum, in my view. And yes, I know that in Triple Goddess, Annabeth has mortal friends but that doesn't make me forget how unfairly she treated Rachel, no matter how much trauma she had and no matter how much of a teenager she was, you don't treat people like that.RED acted like a real friend and a classy lady in Botl. And using a friend to make Percy uncomfortable and "keep him on his toes" in a place where relaxing was an almost impossible luxury was not right. And if it was an attempt at humor it's not funny.
Annabeth, you know you're half mortal, right? You can't just pretend that isn't a part of you.
Didn't even remember that this was an aspect to the Annabeth and Rachel dynamic, but it really supports all I've been saying about how Percy and Rachel are so much more compatible, because they build their own world. Find the in-between of the mortal and the godly together. Ground each other in the half of themselves they feel disconnected to. And then there's Annabeth, who buys into the godly propaganda so hard. Annabeth who doesn't get along with her mortal family. Annabeth who's spent more of her life at Camp than anywhere else. Annabeth who wants to rebuild Olympus. Annabeth who wants to go to college in New Rome, a city absent of mortals. Even if I didn't think Percy and Annabeth's relationship was toxic, I still wouldn't ship them because they're just fundamentally incompatible.

Annabeth and Percy/Annabeth Content (Critical)
DO NOT INTERACT if you like Annabeth, or if you like Percy/Annabeth.
If some of the things Annabeth says or does to Percy makes you uncomfortable, or if you're just questioning some of it (unsure about following mainstream Percabeth shipping) then this is for you.
This is part thirteen of my masterpost (that had too many links so I had to break it up lol).
Anyways, this section is all criticisms about the Percy/Annabeth ship, and some of Annabeth's behavior in the book series. Beware; this is not Annabeth friendly. I'm constantly editing and adding new links and content so please check out the original post on my blog for the updated version.
Enjoy!
Percy/Annabeth in PJO:
Double standards for Percy/Annabeth with paying respect to the other's immortal parent
Percabeth was only possible because Rachel and Luke took themselves out of the competition
Many of Percabeth’s scenes feel so much like foreshadowing for a realization from Percy that he’s in an abusive relationship (someone else's post but I agree 100%)
Percy is Annabeth’s rebound because her first love turned into an evil overlord and died.
Every time Annabeth is mean to Percy in PJO + Staff of Hermes (not mine, idk if I agree with all of these but it's an interesting list).
Annabeth is Percy's rebound from Rachel; and Percy is Annabeth's rebound from Luke.
Ask/discussion about whether Annabeth really had a crush on Percy and whether she cared about him/his life.
Percy/Annabeth in HoO+:
Trust and Vulnerability in Percy/Annabeth's Relationship + Someone else's thoughts why Percy rarely opens up
Tartarus made Percy and Annabeth into the worst version of themselves
The judo flip + Percy's mortal spot: A Murder Attempt?!
A poll I conducted to see what Percabeth fans thought of the flip, and how/if that affected their shipping of Percabeth
Commentary on the Judo Flip by Piper Mcclean
Commentary on how well Percy and Annabeth know each other's backstories by Piper Mcclean
Comparison: Annabeth seeing Percy at his most powerful vs. Nico seeing Percy at his most powerful.
Percy/Annabeth fans claim everything Percy does is about Annabeth - Disproved
A poll I conducted to see what Percabeth fans thought of the "some things [poison] aren't meant to be controlled" scene
Discussions on Percy being scared of Annabeth, fans romantizing that and the effects of Rick's shitty, shitty writing
Commentary: Percy commenting on Annabeth's victim blaming tendencies
General: Percy deserves better (not mine but I agree)
Moment in the KC crossover where Percy admits he fears Annabeth
Percy's unaddressed trauma + Annabeth's tendency to get mad at/make fun of/insult Percy (not mine but I agree)
The judo-flip was done out of anger and as a (unrightful) punishment (not mine but I agree)
Percabeth stans are Annabeth stans and anti-Percabeth ppl are Percy stans: a theory
Analysis: Percy can't say no to Annabeth becayse he fears no one would love him if Annabeth doesn't. (not mine, but I agree).
Percy and Annabeth are incompatible romantically. Most of the time they 'bond' is when they are forced together for quests/wars. Analysis. (not mine but I agree).
Chaoticcerise's comment on the bottom: a disturbing trend of Percy normalizing Annabeth's abuse throughout HoO & PJO. (not mine but I agree)
Annabeth's response to Percy going through Tartarus to keep her alive was downright ungrateful.
Ask answered: what made me dislike Percabeth.
Ask answered: Percy/Annabeth's relationship is just a bit circle of Annabeth watching while Percy does the heavy lifting.
Ask answered: Annabeth's reaction to the Akhlys scene shows that she doesn't truly love him
Percy/Annabeth in CoTG & beyond:
An Analysis of Percy/Annabeth's life together as adults
Criticism of Percy and Annabeth's relationship "Perc@beth is the gold standard and no-one is doing it like them."
Top tier analysis of what Percy/Annabeth's relationship outside of trauma bonding and wartime (and a few other topics like emotional vulnerability and jealously/insecurities). (not mine but I agree with it)
Annabeth's fear of Percy & Percy's fear of hurting Annabeth goes completely unaddressed in HoO, BoO and Cotg.
Annabeth has not changed one bit in how she treats Percy from tlt to cotg: setting him up as bait and kicking him off a cliff.
My response (long analysis with quotes) to a Percy/Annabeth fan dismissing the abuse and red flags in their relationship.
The "House Husband Percy" is a disservice to Percy's characterization, intelligence and provides the right conditions to make Annabeth's controlling/abusive tendencies much worse.
Annabeth (Critical) Content:
In depth analysis of Annabeth's character: entitled, unhealthy manipulative and given far more leniency than any other character in the books. (not mine but I agree 100% and heavily relate).
Fans give Annabeth credit for things she didn't do
Is Annabeth as badass, formidable in battle strategy and leadership as her fans claims she is? Evidence from the books.
Annabeth views Percy as a replacement for Luke (not mine, but I agree)
Annabeth stalks Percy with her invisibility cap while he's changing his clothes (pre-relationship).
Poll: What type of Annabeth Chase fan are you?
Anon ask: Annabeth's pattern of turning Percy's female friends against him (in the sense that they're still friends but they insult him jokingly to appease Annabeth)
Annabeth called Percy the coward when in reality she was the coward for never communicating (not mine but I agree).
Annabeth stans like to distract everyone from Annabeth's embarrassing crush on Luke & her Luke apologism by pointing at Luke and unjustly saying pedo.
A short spiel about general redemption arcs that I think would apply to Annabeth - no actual analysis relating it to PJO tho.
Annabeth stans really be out there saying that she has the most tragic backstory in PJO like no other character exists
Annabeth is incredibly aggressive to anyone who challenges her or doesn't fit into her perfect worldview/plan.
Annabeth stans may like her because they see themselves in her? (the aggression, entitlement, jealously etc.)
Poll: Does Annabeth acknowledge that Percy is smart?
Annabeth's worst crime is how she treated Tyson
Annabeth never matures or grows out of her toxic behavior.
Rick is not good at writing female characters: case - Annabeth. (not mine but they bring up good points)
Double standards: Annabeth is given a lot of leniency (in her treatment of Rachel and Tyson) that no other character gets - despite going through worse.

I just searched up why Rick Riordan added Annabeth's judo flip, and oh my god, it's just so bad-
No, I'm serious. Just look at this sentence-
Rick Riordan added the judo flip as a way to depict Annabeth's practical and strategic nature.
Practical? STRATEGIC? It was literally the opposite of that! Annabeth put her mission in danger! I know she was emotional, but that just doesn't make her actions any less stupid, and it's a blatant lie to paint her judo flip as practical and strategic.
'It's a moment of action and control, showcasing her quick thinking and ability to get out of dangerous situations.'
I just-who wrote this paragraph? How are they able to twist is so badly?
Annabeth literally made it worse-she put them in a dangerous situation by judo flipping Percy! If Percy and Reyna hadn't acted diplomatically, the whole mission would have gone to pieces.
'While it might seem unusual for a character, the judo flip highlights Annabeth's strength and resourcefulness, particularly in a world where demigods often face danger.'
I'm wheezing. Get out of danger? Honey, she just put them in more danger. Show her strength? If that's the best example you have, then your ability to write female characters and relationships is just terrible. There are other ways to show her strength, like having her beat a monster of fight another demigod (Which, by the way, she could have done if Rick hadn't decided to put another Percabeth moment in there. Sigh.)
The judo flip is a memorable and unexpected action that adds to Annabeth's unique personality. It shows she's not just intelligent and resourceful but also capable of physical strength and quick reactions.
Terrible writing. Horrible writing. Egregious writing. Dreadful, awful, appalling, horrific writing.
Resourceful and intelligent-we've already gone over this multiple times, the judo flip was the opposite of that.
Capable of physical strength and quick reactions-except there was no reason for a judo flip of all things. She could have done this when fighting a monster or an enemy demigod or even during sparring practice.
The judo flip can be seen as a symbol of Annabeth's ability to control situations and take charge. It reflects her leadership qualities and her willingness to defend herself and others.
Annabeth wasn't defending anyone, she was actively making the situation worse. She would have defended her team better if she hadn't judo flipped Percy.
Also, if she needs to take charge by physical violence, then she's not a good leader.
In essence, the judo flip is a character-driven moment that enhances Annabeth's personality and adds a layer of realism to the story.
I do agree with this sentence-it's definitely realistic and apropos to Annabeth's personality, but it's a flaw. And if flaws aren't developed and overcome, then it's just bad writing.

"i dont like jason grace because he's boring" is the most evil statement because a. THATS THE POINT and b. thats EXACTLY what makes him NOT boring.
camp jupiter is BUILT to make children into machines. work as a machine, work with the group to be a machine. or, be spare parts. it is rigid. it is unforgiving. it is built to suppress individuality. the MOST autonomy jason grace got was joining the lower end of the cohorts of the legion, was a failing petition against a traditional board.
jason grace grew up in camp jupiter. not like hazel, frank, percy, nico, etc., who were only there for a year or two at MOST. he grew up there. if i had to guess, i would say age 5 through age 15-- roughly a decade. everything he learned there is going to be DRILLED into him.
yes, he is going to seem boring.
the whole POINT of it is so he can have his character arc of "i dont really want to follow the rules..?" that he doesn't want to be praetor, he just wants to be a normal kid at camp half-blood and live with piper and leo. and thats what MAKES him a character that ISNT boring.

Okay, this is just a quick (lies, this ended up so long) and dirty articulation of why I don't like Annabeth Chase from PJO, her relationship with Percy, and what I think could fix it. (It got too long so I cut that bit. I'll write it if someone asks, but right now this is just a deconstruction of how, in my opinion, Annabeth Chase is not a well-written and compelling character.) This will be rambling and scattershot but hopefully it all makes sense, even if you don't agree.
First of all, Annabeth Chase has a lot of potential. I'm about to talk some shit, but I want to be clear, I see a lot in her character that could be interesting. I attribute most of my problems with her to Rick's writing, which, for all its good qualities, is not the strongest or most consistent imo. This isn't intended as a hate piece, just a way to organize my thoughts. I'm doing this all from memory, and am open to feedback, disagreement, or correction if I make a mistake so long as it's done in a civil way. Thank you.
I think my biggest frustration with Annabeth is that I simply don't believe her intelligence. I would LIKE to. But I think we are told that she is smart far more than we're shown, which makes the praise heaped upon her somewhat galling.
When I think about great strategies in these books, Percy comes to mind first. In The Last Olympian, he's the one who plans out the destruction of the bridges to frustrate Kronos' approach, including making diplomatic deals with the river gods and strategically deploying demigods to get it done. He's the one to realize that Poseidon is critical to success, find a way to get his attention in the middle of a war, and convince him to take heavy losses in Atlantis — and lose that battle which was very personal and precious to him — in order to win the ultimate war against Kronos. It is also Percy's strategy which is successful in defeating Typhon. Percy is constantly thinking up strategies in high pressure environments, such as fights. For example, in the Labrynth, when he realizes that his half-brother is healed by earth so he concocts a method with what he has around him to keep his brother suspended so he can be killed.
Now, other demigods also make important contributions in The Last Olympian. Wasn't it Nico who convinced Hades, Persephone, and Demeter to join the fight? And Annabeth activated Daedalus(??? spelling) statues in defense as well. But Percy is one that we are most often shown being strategic. I think it just goes under the radar because Percy does not have a high self esteem and does not praise himself internally for a lot of the clever stuff he does.
Annabeth most often contributes by knowing something. She often serves as exposition; she'll recognize a myth first, and explain it to Percy. But not only is prior knowledge and memorization not a replacement for actual strategy, BUT PERCY GETS BETTER GRADES THAN HER. I think it's in that Demigod Files book?? All Riordan's stuff has at least a month's waitlist at my library or I would double check my source, but I distinctly remember an entry where Annabeth is like, "Seriously, how is Percy getting better grades than me?? I'm the one who taught him how to put an essay together and now he's breezing through them??? Wtf." I find this intensely frustrating. Because what do you MEAN she's not even more successful than Percy academically? It's just, it's frustrating, because she's supposed to be so super smart, and I'm struggling to see where that actually gets expressed. If her only advantage is an earlier exposure to the Greek myths than Percy and a good memory, then her value as a character is highest near the start of the series and can only decline from there.
Even her encounter with the Sphinx highlights this. She had the trivia knowledge to answer the questions but not the wisdom to just, do that and not start an unnecessary fight in the middle of their quest.
I can think of several times in the books where Annabeth stutters, trying to think of something, while Percy improvises something that might be a little goofy but it WORKS.
Actually, Percy is by far the better manipulator out of the two of them. He is insanely good at reading his enemies, figuring out how to convince them to ally with him if possible, or defeat them if not. His big vulnerability is he can't do that for shit with people he cares about. Percy is actually very conflict avoidant in his personal life, I've noticed? And he's very quick to empathize with a friend and try to see things from their persepective (like when Grover kinda SABOTAGED his college applications and Percy heard him out and supported him in his emotional struggle with Percy leaving).
By contrast, Annabeth doesn't seem interested in the emotional wellbeing of her friends?
Annabeth often insults Percy's intelligence and his strategies. She says his head is full of kelp, seaweed brain, outright calls him stupid at least once (during that quest for Hermes, if I recall; was that in the Demigod Files as well? It wasn't in a main book I don't think). Everyone says that Annabeth is so smart, she's the daughter of Athena she's the architect of Olympus!! Meanwhile, the person I see actually implementing successful strategy is the person Annabeth constantly insults. She says that he's lucky, that he needs help to do anything, couldn't think his way out of a paper bag without her????????
That's what drives me crazy about Annabeth. Nobody ever calls her on her bragging or her putting down of other people. She doesn't learn. Not even when her carelessness and overconfidence gets her DRAGGED INTO TARTARUS. I'm so sorry, but is it not embarrassing for a daughter of Athena to be defeated like that??? All you had to do was keep an awareness of your environment, put two and two together that you're covered in webs just like the spider who just fell through the floor, and realize you'd better do something about that ASAP. And, like. Look. My issue isn't that she was pulled into Tartarus. My issue isn't even the way it happened. It matches with her fatal flaw.
My issue is that, like with everything else she gets wrong, she never seems to learn or grow from it. Like when Luke tricked her into holding up the sky. That to me is a perfect opportunity for a genuine character moment. It's so humbling, and would leave you so shaken. A moment for an unwanted but desperately needed reckoning between who she wants Luke to be and who he is. I'm not even saying she should have given up on him. I don't mind that she couldn't or that the whole thing was so messy and painful for her, but the way that it was expressed in the book made me feel like Annabeth was either willfully blind or untrustworthy. Her denial of Luke's worst aspects, her defending of him, her refusal to hold space for other characters feeling differently to her, all of it fostered suspicion in me when I first read the PJO books.
I remember when I first read the scene where Percy reveals his Achille's heel to her. My hair stood on end. Something about the way her eyes are described as "distant" when she asks where it is, and how Percy hesitates. In that moment I was screaming for him not to trust her. I did not want her to know. I thought his fatal flaw was going to kill him. Percy is a character who cannot anticipate betrayal.
Of course I was wrong about Annabeth there. Or was I? Other people before me have noted that when Annabeth judo flips Percy onto his back in New Rome, she does not know that the Mark of Achilles has been lifted. I don't think that the throw would have necessarily killed him if it hadn't; he lands on a flat surface. But it was certainly DEEPLY careless and foolhardy of Annabeth, EVEN BEFORE you take into account that it was, strategically, a STUPID thing to do. It makes me want to scream how dumb this moment makes Annabeth look. It's the tense, fraught first meeting in years between ancient enemies. You're the leader of your group, the diplomatic ambassador from Camp Half Blood. It's imperative that this goes well, for the fate of the world. And your emotions run so high upon reuniting with your kidnapped boyfriend — who was stolen by a god and has been through you-don't-know-what kind of godly fuckery — that you take it out on him, the VICTIM, and physically attack him. Didn't she put a knife to his throat?? If PERCY hadn't defused the moment, handled it, Annabeth would easily have destroyed the Greek-Roman alliance right there, no ghostly possession of Leo needed. With friends like her, who needs enemies?
Her relationship with Percy…I've never understood why they're the golden couple of the fandom. Annabeth seemed more interested in Luke than Percy, and when she was interested in Percy it was always…like, okay, Annabeth was vulnerable with Luke. I don't think he ever had a thing for her, but there was a tenderness to how she'd interact with him. When she interacted with Percy — think of the school dance, or how she handled having Rachel on a quest — she refuses to be vulnerable with him. If she has a crush on Percy, she hides it under glares, insults, and demands. Annabeth won't ask Percy to dance with her, she'll hit him and call him stupid for not asking her. She will not let her guard down with him.
This is a throughline in their relationship; even in Tartarus, she's thinking about how she likes to keep Percy on her toes. Yeah, Annabeth, we know. It was obvious when you manufactured a whole drama around your "one month anniversary." Which, no, that's not a thing, and it's completely normal of Percy not to anticipate that you would want him to do something special for it. I hated that whole story (it's in demigod files, I think). It's just Annabeth dangling Percy over undefined consequences if he doesn't read her mind and figure out what she wants and needs. He does all the work and she judges it. It's not cute or fun.
I do place most of the blame on Riordan's writing. What's that scene where Annabeth pushes Percy unexpectably off a cliff, triggering a very sensitive and dangerous encounter that he had to negotiate under time pressure while Annabeth watches? How does that scene start? "Get you a girlfriend who…" It's framed as a positive that Annabeth will just shove Percy into dangerous situations without warning when she absolutely does not have to do that. Isn't she supposed to be strategic? Why can't she think up a strategy and tell him, instead of shoving him at the problem and just, putting it on him to find a solution? "Give the problem to Percy" isn't a strategy worthy of Athena, I'm sorry. But my point is, Rick genuinely seems to think their romance is good and these red flag moments are cute and flirty. He is not writing Annabeth as an asshole on purpose.
I tend towards death of the author analyses myself, but Rick's writing is not consistent enough for that. You kinda just have to identify what he was trying to do, see where it failed, and decide how you wanna interpret that. And when it comes to Annabeth…I just want to either burn her relationship with Percy down or rewrite her character.
What else is there? Oh yeah, does anyone else feel like the way her family is written makes her seem…overdramatic? Like, meeting her dad and stepmom…it's an anticlimax. This girl was so unhappy she ran away from home as a child. She chose to become homeless in a world where monsters hunt her down, AS A CHILD, rather than stay with her dad. There's a deep unhappiness and loss to that. When she talks about it, she talks about being unwanted, a burden that her dad was unable and unwilling to handle, not being heard, not being believed. She is describing victim blaming. In that house, she, a six year old child, was seen as the problem.
And after that build up, we meet her family, and they are…well, they're fine, aren't they. Her step mom is concerned for her. She and Annabeth's dad (no i don't remember his name rn) seem to want the best for her, to help however they can. Mr Chase—is his name Frederick maybe???—Mr Chase takes the initiative, after Percy and his friends let him in on a sliver of what's going on with Annabeth, to melt down old weapons to make bullets and FLY A HELICOPTER to come save his daughter.
I'm honestly at a loss about what we're supposed to think here. At the end of Titan's Curse Percy gently suggests to Annabeth that she give her family another chance. If I recall, she says some things can't be repaired, but it's implied that she does actually try again with her family later. This always seemed to me to undermine Annabeth's entire narrative…the way she describes being treated simply does not match what we observe for ourselves in Titan's Curse.
I could go on but I'll cut it here. Maybe I'll make a post about I'd rewrite her if I could, because I do WANT to like Annabeth. There's a lot interesting that could be done with her. Probably not though bc all the Annabeth stans are gonna block me for this one I fear. Maybe I'll post my criticisms of other PJO couples instead lol (I won't. if you've read this far you'll find this claim dubious, but I actually don't enjoy being a hater. anyway i don't have nearly so much to say about any other pjo couple). Thanks for reading.

Girlfriend, HELP! I had a conversation with two girls today who took Theseus' side against Dionysus in the whole Ariadne affair. And they had the audacity to call Dionysus "the type of lazy husband who does nothing all day and gets his stupid ass drunk". What do I do?? 😭😭
Sounds like these girls are in desperate need for some good ol' Dionysus x Ariadne propaganda ! Don't worry, I'm here to save the day 🫡.
Ok, in all seriousness, these girls are entitled to their opinions buuuuuut they should at least know what they're talking about. If I were you, I'd just present them with the necessary arguments to explain why they work.
A lot of my claims depend on the source but your conversation partners clearly refer to those where he marries Ariadne and not those where she dies alone or with Theseus.
1. "Dionysus is a bad and lazy husband"
Ah yes, Dionysus the notoriously terrible husband that never cares about his wife.
The one who offers her a crown of literal starlight as a wedding gift and honors her in the sky.
The one who grants her a place among the gods and eternal youth.
The one who brings her to his epic journeys throughout the world.
The one whose love affairs are completely separate from his wedding to Ariadne (contrary to Zeus's where it's directly stated that Hera is in the picture) so we can interpret them as him having fun before settling down.
Even in the sources where Ariadne dies in the war against Perseus, Dionysus literally goes in the Underworld to fetch her soul back and resurrect her.
(and also they had a bunch of kids together so we can say they were, in fact, very active 😂).
2. He does nothing and gets drunk
I have a (almost) whole essay series dedicated to debunking this stance. The link is in my pinned post (Dionysus' iceberg)
To sum up, no he's very proactive, had to establish his cult as a god and... idk, just tell your friends to read the Bacchae if they're into Greek mythology and ancient greek plays.
Also, according to one source, he can't even get drunk. Only his followers are in the haze and he's fully in control.
3. He's stupid
Funnily enough, him being a fool is exactly what he tricks OTHERS into thinking.
When the pirates capture him because they think he's a prince, he just stands there, doesn't try to untie himself from the ropes and smiles...
Then he proceeds to fill the ship with vines, summon wild animals and force the pirates to jump at the sea, turning those who didn't drown into dolphins.
This and the Bacchae. Seriously, this play is a must-read before ANY Dionysus discussion starts.
4. They're on Theseus' side
Ok, so they have the right to like Theseus, even though my favorite pastime is making fun of his intellect (like I stated earlier, I don't even hate Theseus).
And my answer to this argument depends on the source. The ones where Theseus just dumps her from his own will or because he "forgor 💀" are 100% a jerk move from his part. Imagine her waking up alone on the island, probably without warning, as she sees the ship of Theseus going away. With black sails btw, because he didn't even think of Aegeus.
And there's Ariadne, crying, lamenting her fate and her own decisions. In the sources where she isn't rescued, she either hangs herself or dies in childbirth, which is absolutely disheartening to read about. She never lives a happy life in those.
But don't worry ! In most other tellings, Aphrodite and Eros know what to do !
Here comes Dionysus. He comforts her with soothing words, instantly smitten with her. After living in a toxic family and with a man that didn't love her, she finally finds love and a joyful entourage.
There's, however, the telling that Dionysus forces Theseus to abandon Ariadne (either by himself or through Athena). In this case, I get why some would be upset.
It's kind of possessive and she has less agency, but it's also proof that he cares about her and isn't a lazy inactive husband at all. So it's a negative that kind of makes Theseus innocent from this incident (though the rest of his love life is an absolute catastrophe).
But the divine couple still ends up happy, Araidne is hailed as a goddess and plays a role in the cult. Besides, it's Greek mythology, so a bit of weirdness and different moral standards should be expected.
This isn't perfectly fluffy or anything but still acceptable since the ending is the same.
Conclusion :
Dionysus x Ariadne supremacy, though I'm ready to take actual counterarguments into account.
At least those that are pulled from sources and not from a retelling like Saint's version.
(also, this works as an apology for procrastinating on the end of my "Dionysus' iceberg" essay. I'll work on that last part one day, promised !)

Some people are going to sandbag me for this but I don't care. Percy and Rachel had a beautiful relationship, they communicated, they were comfortable with each other and Rachel was supportive, sincere and straightforward There was no insults or bashing.
And it would have been a nice twist, a nice reinterpretation of the girl with the vision and the guy being forced to be a hero.
It would have been awesome and more interesting if they had ended up together.

5 Reasons Percy Should Have Dated Rachel Elizabeth Dare
By @million-golden-drachmas
1. They comfort each other
Percy didn’t want to be a half-blood in the first place, and then he met with Rachel who can take him to a ‘normal’ life seemed like what he needed. Rachel, who has clear sight, always wondering why she could see things that others don’t, finally met Percy who can explain to her what was happening, and prove that she’s not crazy, but gifted. They are not “using each other” but bring comfort and relief to each other. Percy also said “she was so much easier to be around than some other girls I knew”, that showed how comfortable Percy was with Rachel than other girls.
2. Open Communication
In TLO Percy said “Rachel didn’t hide much. She let you know how she felt” clearly he liked that trait of her : straightforward. And we know Percy was not too sensitive to girls’ hints, and he was so confused at some point trying to deal with a girl before. So what could be more compatible for him than a straightforward girl? Being with Rachel, he stated “I didn’t have to work hard or rack my brain trying to figure out what she was thinking.” Like, good for him.
3. Rachel can make the first move
Percy might not be the sharpest when it comes to romance and he needs a little push. But boys don’t always have to be the first who make a move and there is no prohibition that a girl cannot do it. Rachel did that a few times. She wrote her phone number on Percy’s hand, even though that time wasn’t for flirting purposes, but still, Percy ended up memorizing it. She asked Percy if he felt like hanging out with a mortal, he can call her. The most famous of them all is when they were on the beach in the beginning of TLO, she hinted Percy to kiss her. If it weren’t for the pegasus interruption, Percy would’ve kissed her first. Just sayin’.
4. They can be best friends
Outside of romantic relationships, we all can agree they can be besties, with sarcastic humor, they were like on the same ‘tone’! They were the kind of people who say “babe” but like platonically while saying “dude” romantically. They could just chill and have fun, or maybe doing shenanigans.
5. They ‘bravely’ care for each other
Rachel got sliced by Percy in their first encounter, but minutes later she helped him from the skeleton army. She helped him again with the empousas, the labyrinth, hit the Titan’s Lord with a blue plastic hairbrush, and made a sh!tty deal so she can go to the warzone and help Percy. “In her own way, Rachel was brave.” When Percy felt like Rachel was going to be the Oracle, he said “it filled me with dread” and angrily tried to stop it from happening ‘cause he was afraid she could end up tragically.. Or was it? Wasn’t he also didn’t want her to be off-limits???😏
I stand by this ship and I think Percy should’ve dated Rachel :)
▪︎
Anyway, to make me feel better after that ****** article by riordan staff, I made one myself. Ofcourse it’s not perfectly describe Perachel, they were so much more than words and sometimes we just have to.. feel them♡

Whoever wrote this was TOTALLY right and I'm sorry he closed his account. I'm sure he had a lot to say and interesting opinions to share.
And if you think it's wrong to criticize a female pj, that she's misogynistic or something similar, please block me.
Save us both some grief.
I'm intrigued by Annabeth as an individual character, she has an interesting backstory but by not maturing or changing, the pj ceases to be appealing in a way.
And as a romantic interest or girlfriend, she leaves something to be desired. In my opinion, Annabeth doesn't have room for a partner, she's too focused on her own goals and, while that's not a bad thing, it can cause problems or conflict in a romantic relationship.
It would have made more sense for Annabeth to stay single, focused on architecture, on her personal goals than to turn her into a controlling girlfriend who won't even let her boyfriend go out on his own.
Lmaaaooo, imagine seeing people who don’t like Annabeth and saying most if not all of them are misogynistic. Like,,, how is taking ONE of SEVERAL female leads in a book series to task misogyny? Piper and Hazel are queens, Reyna is awesome if a bit stiff, but Annabeth? Annabeth is controlling to an extent. Does she learn? Sometimes. But not when it matters most.
For all of Percy’s faults—he’s usually only ever praised Annabeth to her face. If he’s thought something wrong, to my immediate knowledge he’s never actually voiced it. Annabeth, on the other hand, thought it was okay to judo flip her very much unprepared for that boyfriend. It doesn’t matter what she thought, you do not physically assault your significant other out of the blue like that. I’m not saying she’s irredeemable, what I’m saying is that I don’t like her because of the fact she has little to no self-awareness about her own flaws and has abusive tendencies. Too many for me to willingly, knowingly call Percy x Annabeth a healthy relationship. The fact that Percy refuses to criticize his girlfriend is also an issue. Their fights, to my memory, were always over minor, stupid things.
But Percy being unwilling to let Annabeth find out about Calypso’s island from him directly or learn that he kissed Rachel, both prior to them dating, is an issue. Annabeth’s jealousy was out of control and Percy would have had every right to call her out for it, because Percy is allowed to have female friends. Percy was allowed, at that time, to explore his other options (with Rachel, not with Calypso. For all the leeway I am willing to give immortals, I really only accept them dating 16-18 year olds at the youngest and without sexual contact or discussions. 19+ is fine, though). Annabeth had no right to be so jealous that Percy felt he had to hide it, and Percy definitely should have talked to Annabeth about how he felt.
Why do I give Percy more leeway?
Annabeth ran away because she felt emotionally neglected. I can relate to that, but I’ve never felt the need to runaway. I can accept that Annabeth, on account of the spiders that her mist-blind father and step-mother couldn’t see, felt unsafe to the point of running. That doesn’t, however, change the fact she was almost immediately found by two older demigods and taken to camp half-blood, where she was immediately placed with others who could relate to her experiences and help her adjust.
Percy? Percy had to live with an, at the very least, verbally abusive step-dad for the majority of his life pre-Camp Half-Blood. Percy was probably physically abused if that line about Gabe being willing to punch Percy if Percy stepped to far out of line is any indication. I have no knowledge of if Percy ever told anyone about Gabe, if he ever got therapy or talked to someone about what he went through. He lost his mother just as he arrive and it’s shown that no one helped him recover or grieve or anything. Instead he was singled out within a week, accused of theft, and sent on a quest to stop world war three. With Annabeth acting like a bitch from day one to him and only starting to sort-of soften up with him slowly over the course of the trip, only to bounce right back to being a bitch the next book—because of a baby Cyclopes.
I am willing to accept that she had a traumatic experience with Cyclopes that maybe she didn’t quite get the help she needed to overcome it. However, that does not excuse the fact she lashed out at Percy when it became clear Percy had no idea he was with a baby Cyclopes.
Annabeth never had a pass to be as rude as she was to Percy in the original books. She didn’t have a pass to punch him in The Titan’s Curse when he didn’t immediately realize he should ask her—she’d never given Percy any sign that she would be receptive. From day one, Annabeth was rude, rough, and downright mean to Percy—and was rarely called out on it. When she was, she usually refused to accept it.
I was uncomfortable when I opened up The Staff of Hermes to read how on alert and scared Percy was. I never felt like that in any of my relationships. Also why wouldn’t Percy remember something like promising something special for a fucking one-month anniversary? Even my memory isn’t that bad and I relate quite heavily to Percy’s struggle to remember things. The way it’s phrased in the book suggests that Percy never actually made such an offer—
“Well…yeah!” I thought: Do people celebrate stuff like that? I have to remember birthdays, holidays, and all anniversaries?” (The Demigod Diaries, Page 74)
If he thought that, what in the world would make anyone think that he’d have actually promised such a thing? As someone with ADHD, I know exactly what it’s like to come up completely blank about what someone’s talking about, how hard it is to be sure that they’re not lying to you. They were having a picnic—which wasn’t good enough for Annabeth? If Percy had promised something special, what’s wrong with a picnic? How is that not ‘special’? There is no indication of how often they went on them—and Percy doesn’t come from money. Annabeth would’ve known that.
Annabeth may not be a bad person or even irredeemable—but she uses at the very least unhealthy manipulative tactics from my point of view. I don’t like her, I am quite sure that I hate her. How someone who supposedly has such a traumatic backstory can be so—entitled eludes me. Because she does, in fact, act entitled a lot. Entitled to going on Percy’s first quest (seriously, it bothers me that no one reprimanded her for eavesdropping), entitled to treating Percy like shit over having befriended a baby Cyclopes when he didn’t know her past with them, entitled to act like a bitch to Percy’s mortal, clear-sighted friend who had done nothing to deserve it other than be a ‘threat’ to Annabeth’s interest in Percy romantically.
Neither of them are perfect, but the lack of proper discussion and communication is an issue in the relationship. The codependency showed in HoO is an issue. Making promises like never leaving someone is, frankly, an irresponsible promise. You can never promise someone that you won’t ever leave. You can’t control when you die, if the relationship fall through—even if you remain friends. Annabeth needs to be taken to task for her actions—and Percy needs someone to tell him to stand up for himself, to be more honest with Annabeth about how he feels.
I would like Annabeth better if her flaws weren’t flaws that made her have abusive tendencies not unlike an ex-friend of mine who I no longer have communication with. I would like Annabeth better if she didn’t remind me of a person who once said to mine and another friend’s face that I wasn’t allowed to be friends with other people unless she approved of them. Is this my own issues and trauma making me biased against Annabeth to an extent? Probably. But I relate to Percy—and the fact that Annabeth reminds me of that former friend makes me uncomfortable, especially now that they’re in a relationship.
It’s not misogyny. It’s an ADHD girl who relates to one character being made uncomfortable by another who is rarely criticized and held accountable. A lot of times, Percy is criticized to his face, proven wrong, told he’s wrong, etc. Percy, like Annabeth, has a temper—but Annabeth is allowed to lash out in the books a lot more than Percy. The reason I don’t criticize the author for writing Annabeth this way—is because of the fact that, in real life, not every body is taken to task. Not everybody learns. Not everybody grows as a person.
If you like Annabeth, that’s fine. I just recommend you block me because Annabeth is the character I’ve chosen as the character of comfort through which I will express feelings towards people long out of my life, who I never got closure about, and who were not healthy people for me. Annabeth reminds me the strongest of real people that I’ve met, who hurt me, and I will use her in my stories as a way to deal with that. I’m sorry if that makes you angry. I’m sorry if that makes you think poorly of me.
This is why I ask that you block me. If you’re going to bother me about her, I’ll just block you. Annabeth, as a character, rubs wounds I have raw. Percy, on the other hand, I relate to on a level I didn’t expect to ever relate to any character on. I used to have a temper like his, his form of ADHD expression is pretty close to mine, and I’ve—like him—experienced verbal abuse (even if mine was a more subtle form and my mother will, to this day, deny it). I grew up bullied and coming from little money.
