The “almost intelligent” work The fundamental laws of human stupidity is the third fruit of the collaboration between Vittorio Montalti and Giuliano Compagno who arrives on the scene, after The art and the way to face your boss to ask him for an increase (Venice, Biennale , 2013), and Ehi Gio '(Spoleto 2016), re-proposed for the first time in Florence in a new version in 2018. A previous project, A Roman on Mars, a tribute to Ennio Flaiano, was completed in 2019 and represented in Rome on 23 November. It does not have a conventional dramaturgical approach, as does the homage to Rossini of Ehi Gio ': it characterizes both works, despite the references to Flaiano and Rossini, the interest of Vittorio Montalti for an abstract dramaturgy, which is manifested by full evidence in the fundamental Laws of human stupidity and which was clearly perceived in the first work born from the collaboration of the composer with Giuliano Compagno, already in the choice of the text from which it is taken. Suffice it to recall here that the title The art and the way of facing one's boss to ask for an increase, literally corresponds to the French one of a 1968 Perec text that came out posthumously and of which there is an Italian translation. The writer also made a theatrical version of it, The Augmentation (1970). In a refined and complicated literary game, the different situations in which an employee who finds himself deciding to go to the office manager to ask for an increase may appear. Perec does not choose among the possible situations, it represents them all. The libretto is not based on the theatrical version, but on the previous one, and makes a necessary simplification; but respect the idea [ ... continued]
