Nursing Diaries ep. 11: Thank you, Year 2
To the year that tested me, taught me, and transformed me—this is my soft goodbye.
Dear Year 2,
Thank you.
For the lessons that went beyond the classroom. About life, patience, compassion, and grit.
For the clinical duties that pushed me out of my comfort zone and into the kind of growth I didn’t know I needed.
For the patients who reminded me why I chose this path and the moments that made my heart full despite the exhaustion.
You were not easy.
You came with sleepless nights, overflowing FDARs, aching feet, and quiet cries I didn’t always talk about.
But you also gave me memories I’ll carry forever.
The laughter during breaks, the rush of learning something new, the small “thank yous” that meant everything.
To my clinical instructors, mentors, groupmates, and everyone I met along the way — thank you for being part of my journey.
Thank you for the patience, the guidance, the presence, and the shared load during heavy days.
And to myself: I’m proud of you.
You showed up. Even on the days you didn’t feel like it.
You cared. You learned. You grew.
Now, it’s time to turn the page.
Third year is waiting. Unknown, maybe a little scarier, but filled with new beginnings.
And though I’m nervous, I know I’ll carry everything Year 2 gave me as I take the next step.
So here’s my gentle farewell.
No fanfare, just a heart full of gratitude.
Thank you for shaping me.
See you in Year 3.

Nursing Diaries ep. 10: Sleep Deprived & Slightly Possessed 🫠
A tale of one nurse… and one unforgettable shift. 👩⚕️✨
“Leave the stress at the hospital,” they said. But why did I wake up at 3AM, hearing a distant “Ate Nurseeee…” like I was still on duty? Is it burnout, or is my brain playing tricks on me? 🤔
You know that one shift that feels so chaotic and draining, it doesn’t just end when you clock out? Well, that was me after one particularly intense day. I thought I was finally done—my shift was over, and I was heading home to catch up on sleep. But little did I know, my mind had other plans. 🧠💭
As I tried to fall asleep, the day’s events kept replaying in my head. I was no longer on duty, yet I could still feel the pressure of it all. Suddenly, I was jolted awake at 3AM by a voice I couldn’t shake: “Ate Nurseeee…”
It wasn’t a nightmare, nor was it just my sleep-deprived mind. It felt so real, like my shift had somehow continued in my dreams. The calls, the rounds, the endless tasks—it was all there. My body was at rest, but my mind? Still on high alert, running through the same motions from the shift.
It’s strange, but sometimes I think that being a nurse doesn’t end when you leave the hospital. Even when you’re off the clock, the stress, the patients, and the responsibility follow you home. It’s like your brain just can’t switch off.
Sleep should be about rest, not reliving the chaos of THAT hospital duty. 😴

Nursing Diaries ep. 9: Random Things I Think During Duty 😵💫🧠
Unfiltered thoughts ko as a nursing student—kasi walang nagsabi na madali, pero laban lang! Random Thoughts:
“Asa na man akong FDAR uy! Asa nako to nabutang?”
“Lord, ‘wag muna today ang catheter ha, please lang.”
“Gigutom na ko, naloko na ni.”
“It’s only 9AM?!!”
“Kaya pa ba self? Kaya pa.”
“Mag break na ba… or breakdown na lang?” 😅
“Ginoo, tabang!”
“Nakaka-cry na ‘to pero mamaya na lang. Duty muna.”
“Kaligoon na kaayo ko, pero mag alcohol na lang muna si self”
“Sakit na kaayo ang lawas sa babae. #huhu”
✨ Nursing life: brain on cruise control, body on survival mode. See you on the next shift of chaos!

Nursing Diaries ep. 8: 7–3 PM Shift Breakdown — From Sunrise to Sign-Out 🌅 ➡️ 🕒
Here’s a simple peek into how a 7–3 pm duty shift flows: from sleepy starts, nonstop routines, and a touch of realness all throughout.
⏰ 04:00 AM: The Great Awakening
Alarm rings. Body says no. Brain says “late ka na!” And still questioning life half-asleep.
⚔️ 05:00 AM — Battlefield Prep
Uniform well-ironed. Parabag packed. Face card secured. Mental state? Pending.
📋 07:30 AM — Endorsement of Patients
Half-awake, half-confused. “What bed nga ‘yung may IVTT? Sino nga ‘yung NSVD?”
🩺 08:00 AM — Vital Signs Galore
BP here, temp there. Slightly sweaty but still smiling.
⚕️ 10:00 AM — CI Appears + Procedure Time
CI walks in = elevated heart rate. IV fluids monitoring, oral meds, and everything on the list —ready or not, go!
🍱 12:00 NN — Gutom Chronicles
Stomach speaks louder than the patient’s complaints.
📑 02:00 PM — Charting + Bedside Care
FDAR marathon. One wrong word, erase again. “Lochia” still feels like a spelling bee.
⏳ 02:30 PM — Uwian is Near but CI is Nearer
You see freedom. CI sees “last minute procedure.” Almost free. Almost.
✅ 03:00 PM — Dismissal (Finally!)
Shift’s over, brain’s fried, but I survived. Same time tomorrow? Let’s do it all over again.
And that’s a wrap! Until the next one! 💪

Nursing Diaries ep. 7: Duty Starter Pack 🩺💊👜
Here's a fun breakdown of what every nurse needs to survive a shift—because it’s not just about patient care, but also about taking care of yourself! 💉💪✨
1️⃣ Duty Documents 📄
Endorsement, I&O, VS, FDAR: The never-ending paperwork that keeps us organized... and slightly stressed. 😂📝
2️⃣ Alcohol Spray 🧴
A nurse’s secret weapon for everything. Instant sanitization! 💧🦠
3️⃣ Parabag with Paraphernalia 🎒
The bag that holds everything from gloves to gauze and maybe even a snack for the day (or night) shift. 👜
4️⃣ Stethoscope 🩺
Our trusty sidekick for those heart-to-heart moments... literally. 🎧💓
5️⃣ Ballpens (Black, Blue, Red) ✍️
The pens that mysteriously disappear whenever you need one. Where do they even go?! 🖊️✨
6️⃣ Water Bottle 💧
Always on hand but barely touched. Hydration is important, right? 💦😅
7️⃣ Kodigo Inside Jot-Down Notebook 📓
Your secret weapon for keeping it all together. A little cheat sheet here and there never hurt anyone! 🧠
8️⃣ Watch with a Second Hand ⌚
When seconds matter, you need to time it right. ⏰⏳
9️⃣ Emergency Kit 🧰
Makeup for that fresh look, meds for unexpected aches, and candies to keep you sane. Priorities, right? 💄💊🍬
🔟 Face Card, Confidence & Presence of Mind 💅
Confidence, poise, and the ability to fake it 'til you make it. We’ve all been there! 😎✨
Duty isn’t complete without this chaotic yet organized mess. Better pack these things for a smoother duty experience.

Nursing Diaries ep. 6: Things to Prepare for Oral Revalida 🎙📚
Oral revalida szn is here—aka the Hunger Games: Nursing Edition 💀 You're expected to stay smart, confident, and composed while being grilled like BBQ. Here's your mini survival kit before stepping into the hot seat 🔥:
🧠 Brain (Fully Charged, Not on Low Power Mode) – Know what you studied. Be familiar with the history, signs and symptoms, pathophysiology, and proper management. Speak like you’re the final boss.
💄 Face Card & Self-Care Armor – Just because you’re defending your knowledge doesn’t mean you can’t serve a look. A little kilay, blush, gloss tint, and 7 hours of sleep (okay, 4) go a long way. Confidence starts with feeling fresh, even if your brain is panicking in silence.
📚 Notes & Reviewer = Your BFF – No fancy materials needed. Just your trusty notes and reviewer—highlighted and maybe even slightly tear-stained. These are your weapons, your bible, your ride-or-die.
🎤 Confidence & a Sprinkle of Delulu – Deliver your answers like you're being interviewed on live TV. Even if your knees are shaking and your soul left your body, smile and slay. You're not just a student—you're the star witness for these diseases.
👜 Essentials Bag = Life Kit – Forget designer bags. Manila papers, markers, and masking tape are the real MVPs. Toss in your ID, ballpen, and maybe some candy for brain fuel. One thing missing? Panic. Leave that at home. Your tote is now a survival pack.
✨ Remember: It’s not about knowing everything—it’s about knowing what matters and owning it. Take a deep breath, stand tall, and slay while doing it.

Nursing Diaries ep. 5: 10 Unspoken Rules of Nursing School 💉📖
Surviving nursing school isn’t just about memorizing books—it’s also about learning the unwritten rules that can make or break your day. Ignore them at your own risk. 🌙✨
1. Never say, “It’s a slow day.” You’ll jinx it. 🌀🚑
The second you say this, chaos begins—patients flood in, machines go wild, and your CI suddenly remembers to quiz you.
2. Avoid eye contact when your CI asks for volunteers. 👀💉
Even a quick glance means you just signed up for an IV or Catheter removal, or a skill you’ve never done before.
3. Your pen will always go missing. ✍️🤔
No matter how many you bring, someone will “borrow” it forever. Keep a stash or accept your fate.
4. Be early, or you’re already late. ⏳🚶♀️
If duty starts at 7 AM, your CI expects you at 6:30. Anything later = instant stress.
5. The one day you forget your notes is the day you need them most. 📚💭
Your CI will ask for exactly what you left at home.
6. You will always get the most complicated patient. 😵💫🩺
While your groupmates monitor stable cases, you’ll be juggling IV drips, oxygen therapy, and an unstable BP.
7. “One more patient” never means just one. 🏥🍃
It’s a trap. Say yes, and you’ll still be there an hour past your shift, exhausted and starving.
8. Nurses will ask for help, and you can’t say no. 🙃✨
“Can you assist me real quick?” = You’re now responsible for a full procedure.
9. Your CI knows everything. 🧐🌙
Don’t think they didn’t see you resting or hear you gossiping—they always know.
10. The best groupmate is the one who brings snacks. 🍫☕
If they share their food, protect them. They’re the real MVP.

🩺 Nursing Diaries ep. 4: Things I Wish I Knew Before Nursing School 💉📚
Nursing school is nothing like I imagined—it’s tougher, more rewarding, and full of surprises. If I could go back and give my past self some advice, here’s what I’d say:
✅ You don’t have to know everything immediately. It’s okay to struggle, ask questions, and learn as you go. No one expects you to be perfect.
💡 Find your study method early. What worked in high school won’t always work here. Experiment with active recall, practice questions, and concept mapping.
⏳ Time management is your best friend. Balancing classes, clinicals, and life is HARD. A planner or digital calendar will save you.
🙅♀️ Don’t compare your progress to others. Everyone learns at their own pace. Focus on your growth.
🛑 Take breaks. Seriously. Burnout is real, and you can’t pour from an empty cup. Rest when you need to.
💖 Nursing friends are lifesavers. No one understands the struggle better than your fellow student nurses. Find your people.
At the end of the day, nursing school is a journey—one filled with challenges and rewarding moments. Trust the process, keep going, and remember: you’re capable of more than you think.

🩺 Nursing Diaries ep. 3: My Nursing School Red & Green Flags 🚩✅
— Nursing school is a mix of long shifts, late-night study sessions, and small victories. Some habits keep me going, while others? Not so much. Here's my list of red & green flags that I’ve struggled with, and others have helped me survive.
🚩 Nursing School Red Flags
Things that drain me…
🔴 Cramming the night before exams ➝ The chaos of last-minute studying feels productive, but it’s a recipe for stress, sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and forgetting everything after the test.
🔴 Skipping meals & surviving on coffee ➝ Coffee is life, but it’s not a meal. Too often, I’ve realized I haven’t eaten until I feel dizzy.
Reminder: We can’t care for others if we don’t care for ourselves.
🔴 Saying ‘yes’ to everything ➝ Between clinicals, assignments, and trying to have a life, overcommitting = burnout. Sometimes, saying ‘no’ is self-care.
🔴 Not asking for help ➝ I used to think struggling alone made me strong.
Spoiler: it doesn’t. Whether it’s clarifying a topic, venting about a hard day, or getting support, it makes a difference.
🔴 Measuring my progress against others ➝ Nursing school isn’t a competition, but it’s easy to feel behind. Everyone learns at their own pace, and my journey is mine alone.

✅ Nursing School Green Flags
Things that help me survive & thrive...
🟢Finding my own study rhythm ➝ Instead of forcing a strict schedule, I focus on what works best for me each day. Some days call for intense focus, while others are for quick reviews. Being flexible = less burnout.
🟢 Taking power naps when needed ➝ Sleep deprivation = brain fog. A quick nap before studying helps way more than pushing through exhaustion.
🟢 Finding my study style ➝ I stopped copying notes word-for-word. Now, I summarize in my own words, use flashcards, and teach concepts to the wall like it's a real patient.
🟢 Having a solid support system ➝ Nursing friends just get it. From study sessions to emotional breakdowns, having people who understand makes all the difference.
🟢 Celebrating small wins ➝ Passed an exam? Treat myself. Got through a tough shift? Self-care night. Nursing school is hard, so I deserve to appreciate the little victories.
✨ Nursing school is a journey of trial and error. Small wins and good habits make all the difference.

Nursing Diaries ep. 1: My Study Playlist 🎧🎶
Studying for hours can feel like a never-ending cycle, but the right music makes it a little more bearable. This playlist is a mix of my favorite songs from Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift—perfect for those late-night study sessions, long hospital shifts, or just when I need to romanticize my nursing life. 🌙📖
✨ What’s inside the playlist? 📚 Soft, chill tracks for deep focus 💖 Upbeat songs to keep my energy up ☁️ Emotional ballads for those reflective, post-duty nights
