It’s pride month: Help a homeless trans woman survive!

Making an update after this post- Charlotte is a trans woman with diabetes and cancer trying to survive while chronically homeless. She needs $450 to renew her weekly motel room by June 25, and she will likely need to replace her phone soon ($80). This is a chunk of money but if 50+ people reblog this and send $10, that is enough. Please share and help if you can!

speaking of larping as a knight u can get through basically any task by imagining that ur a knight or perhaps a squire undergoing various ordeals and such.

for example.

-car maintenance. a noble knight would never allow their steed to languish without proper care.

-laundry. a squire must maintain the wardrobe for themself and their knight and work hard to prove themself.

-exercise: a knight must train to keep their skills sharp and maintain their strength and stamina.

-conversation with annoying coworker? a knight must be gracious even in the face of provocation and maintain diplomacy and restraint so as not to make things difficult for their king and also not misuse their power by obliterating an unarmed man with sheer force of might no matter how much he DESERVES IT

Mulling over ways to explain Gender to cis people who do not understand, like

Imagine you have a friend who breeds green and orange bunnies. And your friend tells you that the female bunnies are naturally green, and the male bunnies are naturally orange - nature sees to it that female bunnies have a tendency to be born green and male bunnies have a tendency to be born orange.

But while interacting with your friend's bunnies, you pick up an orange bunny and are told actually, that one's female.

You pick up a green bunny and are told nope, that one's male. This happens several times.

Your friend explains to you that while it's true that female bunnies are green and male bunnies are orange, sometimes you get the occasional freak mishap where they're born the wrong color.

There are two ways you can view this phenomenon. The first way is the way your friend seems to be viewing it: male bunnies are always orange and female bunnies are always green, except when they aren't, but when that happens, those are just edge cases - they're an oddity, but they do not change the fact that for the most part, orange is male and green is female. That's the rule. You can continue assuming every orange is male and every green is female and if you're ever wrong, that's a fault of the individual creature in front of you, not a fault of your gender=color categories.

The other way you can view it, that you friend fails to consider, is that bunnies are born orange or green and this has nothing to do with sex and gender. A lot of the time green bunnies are female, a lot of the time the male ones are orange, but not always. The bunny's color and its sexual characteristics are not nearly as intrinsically linked to each other as your friend believes. You can have male and female bunnies who do not fit neatly into these categories your friend so loves to sort them into.

There's just a frequent correlation - but as a scientist, you know that correlation isn't causation.

You can observe a tendency for male bunnies to be orange, but that doesn't man maleness = orangeness and vice versa.

Now imagine instead of bunnies I'm talking about people, and instead of "being orange or green" I'm talking about "blue or pink, liking cars or purses, wearing a suit or wearing a dress, being a leader or a nurturer. Being a Man or a Woman."

It turns out, none of those things are inherently linked to your genitals or your ratio of X to Y chromosomes.

Just because Human With Penis has a tendency to identify as Male and Human With Vagina has a tendency to identify as Female in observed practice, does not mean that penis=male and vagina=female. This is a common correlation. It is not a Rule Of Reality.

In nature, these categories can occur in every combination and permutation, and that is the breadth of variety of human experience.

Those can all be natural variations on Human, rather than two Normal categories and the freak reject bin for everyone else.
