                         an    arm    occupied    with    a    still    half    -    asleep    cosmo,    the    other    holds    three    sets    of    clean    clothes    .    one    for    each    of    them    .    “    he's    still    waking    up,    but    promise    he    isn't    as    grouchy    as    he    looks    .    just    ain't    a    mornin'    person    s'all    .    ”    with    an    affectionate    ruffle    to    the    child's    unruly    curls,    he    situates    him    beside    max    at    the    bar    top    and    hands    off    their    guest's    borrowed    clothing    .    “    cosmo,    tell    good    morning    to    my    friend    .    he's    gonna    hang    out    with    us    for    a    little    bit,    that    okay    ?    ”    the    five    -    year    -    old    in    question    doesn't    so    much    as    utter    a    word,    only    glances    up    sleepily    at    the    new    intruder    .    “    brought    you    these    to    use    after    your    wash,    you're    more    than    welcome    to    keep    them    .    i    was    gonna    try    my    hand    at    the    swap    meet    or    just    donate    'em    anyways    .    bathroom    is    right    around    the    corner    there,    last    door    on    your    left,    if    'ya    wanna    shower    real    quick    .    ”

max listened with a blank expression, the only sign of his impending embarrassment the flush that had started in the tips of his ears. "surprise me," he said, half a joke, managing the strength to pull the plate closer to his body. even as his stomach turned, the smell of breakfast was impossible to ignore. he hadn't exactly eaten much the day before, and what little he had no doubt had come up later that evening. shoveling food into his mouth, he cleared it all in one fell swoop. his stomach won't thank him, but who cared about that? a barely muffled burp later, he fixed his savior, as it were, with a more critical stare. "well... thanks," he said, more uncertain than his expression would imply. "i didn't like, puke all over you did i? or me?" pulling back the covers, he was pleased to see he was still clothed and said clothes weren't soiled to hell and back. it had happened before. "ugh... i guess i do want to clean up. you got a washing machine, man?"

as expected, danny yanks her back against his chest every time she gets more than six inches away from him. what can he say? he's feeling clingy tonight, protective of his interests. her last escape is still fresh on his mind. they had both enjoyed it, he thinks, but that doesn't mean he's prepared to lose her. the message, in his own opinion, has been received loud and clear—tighten the leash. and tighten it he has. "i remember," he says at last, free hand laced in her hair, playing with it. put me on display. the thought alone is enough to have him chewing on his lip. "maybe i just want you close to me. if i have to stuff you in a box to do it... i will."

it was for canon's sake that seth pretended not to hear most of the drivel that spilled from his mouth. it could have been gibberish or white noise for all the good it did the world—at least the latter had a purpose. canon was just yapping on and on for the sake of it. biting back a sigh, he continued to steer him into the store, grip insurmountable. "the personal assistants have better things t'do than make a grocery trip. an' it's on the way back home anyhow." explaining basic sense to him was like trying to wrangle cats—nobody was having a good time. seth did what he could all the same. "here, i've got a cart. you've got the list. let's do it together, alright?"
