Where Is Nondestructive Testing Used?
Non Destructive Testing is defined as the Welding Inspection and a test which do not destroy the work piece during or after Installation or disassembly. NDT inspectors use a variety of techniques to identify and repair defective welds without causing any damage to the work piece. As the name implies, this inspection procedure does not cause damage to the weld puddle, as do most other methods of inspection. NDT inspectors are specially trained to detect any flaws in the weld puddle. Such defects can be dangerous for the workers handling the welded product during the welding process.
Welding inspection and non-destructive testing are performed by using various kinds of tools. The two most common methods of inspection involve ultrasonic testing and radiography testing. Ultrasonic testing uses sound waves to identify any imperfections in a weld or to discover any crack or other irregularities in the weld puddle. Radiography utilizes x-rays to investigate defects in any material. This process involves injecting x-rays into the weld puddle to reveal the location of imperfections.
Welding inspectors use several other methods such as gas and electric field testing, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Electron Beam Computerized Testing (EBAC). However, none of these tools are as accurate and thorough as that of the NDT inspectors who are specially trained to locate weld defects which would otherwise compromise the welding project. What Should Be Inspected When Working With Welding?
What should be inspected when working with welding? I'm glad you asked, because in my opinion the answer is this: anything that comes in contact with a person's body should be inspected. Whether the item is a metal object or a tool, or perhaps something else altogether. In my mind, what should be inspected when working with welding is always safety. Specifically, safety should always come first, and I don't think anyone agrees with me on that one.
When we're talking about safety, let's not forget the most obvious, which is fire. Fire accidents can happen anyplace and anytime and are rarely limited to working areas where welding is going on. It doesn't take much to cause a major fire, whether it's by welding fumes, electricity, gas leaks, gas lines burning - you name it, we've probably had it before. So let's not kid ourselves, if you're in a welding area, you need to make sure you're shielding yourself from that.
Another factor to consider is personal hygiene. It's important for welders to wash their hands after every time they work with any sort of fluid, especially dangerous fluids like welding fluids. Personal hygiene should also come into play when dealing with welders who use knives or coolant products while welding. The welders' hands can transfer these harmful products to the person being worked by, and I wouldn't suggest using them.

He is now fully trained in welding theory, Australian Standards, non destructive testing (NDT), inspection requirements, quality assurance, weld procedures, on the job monitoring of welding variables and welding supervision of staff either in a factory or on site. The codes he is trained to work with are the AS/NZS 1554 series and AWS D1.1. It is also required that to begin the AS2214 course that the candidate be a tradesman thus assuring a certain level of experience at the work front.

What Does a NDT Inspector Does?
A Non Destructive Test inspection is very similar to a Destructive Inspection, except that instead of attempting to destroy a part of the structure in order to find out its integrity, an NDT inspector will simply document the condition of the material and its relationship to other characteristics that affect its integrity. As with any other type of inspection, non-destructive testing relies on observation and expertise rather than scientific method or mathematical formulas. NDT is also sometimes called: NDT (nondestructive testing) or NDTI (nondestructive evaluation or inspection).
A non-destructive inspection can be defined as a visual process utilized to evaluate the condition of a product or component based on knowledge of the attributes of that object and the processes that produce those attributes. Most NDT inspectors are trained in numerous techniques including physical examination, visual testing, or computer-assisted visual testing. In the past, non-destructive inspection was thought of as a purely scientific technique, used primarily to gain material identification. However, modern non-destructive inspection has grown to include knowledge of manufacturing process, shop practices, and production equipment. This broadening of the scope of non-destructive inspection has led to a broader set of criteria for NDT inspection.
