This past week we were able to Skype with our partners at the Students with Dreams Organization in Malawi! Students with Dreams is a program that empowers young leaders to implement innovative projects in response to social challenges they see in their community. During our Skype call we were able to meet some of the students and we were able to introduce ourselves to them. Three of our E-Board members will be traveling to Malawi this summer where they will get to work with these students. We are looking forward to talking with them again sometime soon!!

Meet our Partner
Each GlobeMed chapter is partnered with a grassroots organization where they design projects to improve the health of the local community within that country. Our partner is the Art and Global Health Center of Africa Program (AGHCA) located in Malawi. AGHCA’s mission is to “foster creative leadership and implements innovative, arts-based, health oriented programs that inspire and mobilize. They have three projects:
Students with Dreams: This program empowers young dreamers to implement innovative projects in response to social challenges they see in their community. With their partnership with 2 colleges, it provides young leaders the outlet to realize their potential and take ownership for social change in Malawi.
Umunthu: The goal for this program is to build a more tolerant, empathetic society without marginalization and discrimination. The documentary Umunthu: An African Response to Homosexuality was directed by a Student with Dreams alum. AGHCA facilitated discussions with the audience on LGBTQ+ issues in Malawi following the screening.
Make Art/Stop AIDS: This program started out as an Interactive MASA film project. The films are made to engage rural communities in a creative way to address the stigmas surrounding HIV/AIDS. The films also address the fears around HIV/AIDS and provides information on prevention, treatment, and testing. Most of the actors are living with HIV/AIDS and the program provides HIV testing during the screening
