"...Well, don't look at me. I'm not going in there first." Yeah, he's looking right into the mouth of a very weird and ominous cave that SUPPOSEDLY is holding a bunch of stolen kings-grade treasure.

"Why don't you go first then. For science."

"Hey, are you ok?" He's lifting a rather large piece of rubble to the side after digging a bit to get to the bottom.

"Hold still, I got you. Are you able to get up? Careful, it looks like whatever did this had tore this cathedral apart."

He could assume what had happened- but that wasn't important right now.

"Well, see, when I'm happy and I know it, I clap my hands."

"My name is Blue Bird, and it all started when my father went missing on an expedition mission a long time ago. He and his team were never found nor could the guild find any trace of him after the expedition was called off. The last time I saw him was when I was about five years old."

He takes out a bag of candy and starts pouring the contents into the bowl in front of him.

"I brought the sour gummy worms."

It WAS a fascinating question, that's for sure. Even Kuro himself did not know the extent of the power both the Authorities and Yggdrasil had when it came to the formation of a familiar- more or less the very modification of a soul. Or if there were any slight modifications at all aside from the memory fog that would come with it. No, he didn't personally understand the reasoning behind it- for the most part, it was almost as if his presence being toyed with had brought some sort of 'fun entertainment' to the specific audience that were watching them from afar.

A bitter shiver had run up the familiar's spine. 'They would never intend to do something horrific with these souls' had to be one of those lines that Kuro surely had doubted. Even if his personal experience were only a few selected instances of interactions with the higher authorities, he knew there was much more than that under the surface.

If only he could theorize on it more- but the question soon brought up the sudden pause he noticed from Theo. No, he was familiar with how Theo would typically act. There was something on his mind just now, wasn't there?

"You're right, and you were my first master. Perhaps it's the way of life here where interaction is but a mere concept to others unless absolutely necessary. It's not quite a healthy way to look at it, but in some instances I could say that it had lead us to understand each other…" He trails off with the look of thoughtfulness. Those eyes then returned attention to Theo- this time following with a tilt of his head at his inquiry.

Ah yes. Him.

"I'll be honest, I don't know what exactly I would say to him. Or, rather, I don't know the circumstances of how he would approach me since, as you said, he is quite... peculiar. I don't think i've ever gotten used to him each time he would just show up out of nowhere, startling us on purpose." It always did seem like he came and went as he pleased, always seemingly pecking at their brains one way or another.

"My guess is that I would greet him as I normally would and see where that conversation goes from there. I haven't seen him since I had returned, so it's still something I have not thought of bringing up quite yet."

A moment of pause while he shakes his head.

"In any case, if it was utterly important, I would have expected for him to see me by now. Since it isn't, I wouldn't worry about it so. It does seem strange in a way that I have not seen them in quite a while. When was the last time you had seen him, Theo?"

At least if he can figure out what Adam had been up to, he could be more on the alert when it came to him and Theo if he DID happen to walk in sometime. It's inevitable that he would at some point.

ㅤㅤ" I suppose by being summoned, your sense of self had been diluted as you were merely a soul before you were properly manifested but what's more surprising to me than anything is how you managed to even develop an identity within a short period of time. I can't help but wonder if there's a limit to how much a soul can be manipulated in Yggdrasil. Not to say they would ever intend to do something horrific with these souls but there seems to be a good possibility that your past life has been influencing who you are today. " If that was the case then wouldn't this mean that these souls were exempt from the natural process of reincarnation ? He supposed it followed in line to why these souls were here in the first place; to be given a second chance before their souls would be damned for eternity. Souls that were beyond redemption wouldn't be given the chance to reincarnate and would be bound to limbo until the end of time but now he couldn't help but wonder ... just what sort of person was Kuro in his past life ? Just what sort of sins did he commit for Yggdrasil to take pity on him to grant him salvation ?

ㅤㅤNo, no. He shouldn't think about unnecessary things like this. Kuro was here now and there was no mistaking that he was a kind soul but yet ... there were far too many things that gnawed at the back of the mind.

ㅤㅤ" ... Well, considering we were newly acquainted as master and familiar, it was a given that I would want to engage with you as much as possible. You were my first familiar after all and it was exciting to have a new friend that wasn't someone I was always on edge around. Besides, the other masters and familiars were never too keen on interacting with lower authorities unless necessary so it's no wonder you never went out of your way to do so. " Despite how cruel it was, he doubted they would've cared much for what Kuro had to say either way seeing as he was but a mere familiar. " Ah ... but there was one exception though, "

ㅤㅤAs if emboldened by the mere thought of the Divine Authority, he smiled and mustered the courage to lock eyes once more, " You remember Overseer Adam, don't you ? He was always eager to hear what you had to say but I do recall how on edge you were every time he paid a visit. Well ... I suppose I'm no different considering he is one of the Divine Authority. It was always hard relax when he came to personally observe us and not to mention, he has a rather ... peculiar personality. " Still, that begged the question,

He crosses his arms and looks at Aria for a moment. Ok, yeah that's VERY biased- but how is he surprised at this point. The two seemed to get along so well and from Orus could tell, there was DEFINITELY more than just something favorable between the two.

That's none of his business though, now is it?

He gives Aria another look. Not a serious look, but a look.

"I don't know, I can be insufferable if I really wanted to be- but I choose not to at the moment. Besides, she's not THAT annoying."

Oh yeah, the bias is real within these two.

"You are correct on that, Theo. It's strange to recall how I was when I was first summoned here, to how I am now. Even with the vast knowledge included when I had awoken, it certainly didn't feel like I could express much without knowing my purpose and reasoning. I can't really explain why or how I hadn't had the means to respond to your questions, it is strange indeed. I guess it goes to show that all I needed was someone to feel comfortable with…" He trails off as he looks at Theo with sincerity.

Yes, trust and comfort in Theo's presence. Something neither the divine nor that notorious snake could ever offer to him, the mistrust in how many mind games and vagueness that usually came along with meaningless riddles and unnecessary prodding. Kuro especially knew that, since awoken, he certainly didn't feel comfortable even expressing more than just a flat default when it came to the divine- and maybe he had assumed Theo would have treated him the same way.

Yet, he didn't, and that's what had drawn Kuro to come more and more out of his shell. To think and to learn while developing a deeper bond with the librarian than anyone or anything that would want him to do anything but.

"Perhaps…" His true feelings about Yggdrasil and the authorities are, of course, on the complete opposite on the spectrum compared to how Theo saw them. Kuro loathed them, all of them to a degree. Each interaction and knowledge from what the authorities had in plan, he couldn't find himself to even act pleasant around them. He will endure it, for Theo, but lords above he could only wish there was a chance to somehow change that.

"…Now that I think of it, I think you've engaged with me more when I was still fresh and new here. I don't typically go out of my way to speak or befriend other familiars or their own masters. I don't really understand why, but maybe it's because I don't know what to say to them… It sometimes makes things awkward, you know?"

He trails off while pondering, chin tucked in his knuckle.

ㅤㅤ" IF it is true, then it's quite merciful of Yggdrasil to grant even the most damned souls a second chance at redemption. It goes to show that every soul deserves a chance at life regardless of their sins in the past. " Despite their mercy, there was still the concern of the present however. Hadn't Kuro already committed a grave sin against Yggdrasil itself by breaking free of his chains ? Under normal circumstances, sinners had no place here in a divine sanctuary but here the librarian was, overlooking his transgressions so that he could sate his selfish desires. Would he face punishment in the future for this ? He felt the anxiety resurface in his chest at the thought of it. As long as Kuro didn't do anything more then there was certainly nothing worth reporting .. right ? No matter how he tried to convince himself, there was always a lingering guilt haunting his mind, reprimanding him for neglecting his duty.

ㅤㅤ" ... Regardless of what form or person you would've woken up as ... you would've been different either way. After all, it's not possible for anyone to be the same exact person they once were in their past lives. I'm glad you're confident enough in yourself as a person though. "

ㅤㅤDespite his worries, it was nice being able to converse with him normally like this ... as if it nothing changed from the past. He took another sip of his coffee and exhaled out a relaxed sigh. " Mm ... aren't skills and habits things developed throughout your lifetime ? But I suppose it is something to ponder given that when you were first summoned, you already possessed a great deal of knowledge so perhaps they're fragments of your former self that your soul clung onto. Although you were practically an empty slate when I first met you ! You didn't know how to respond to most of my questions when I was trying to get to know you and you only started showing an interest in things like collecting once we began to spend more time together. Perhaps it was more curiosity than anything ? Yggdrasil is a rather wondrous place after all. "
