From the very moment that the elevator had given a rickety sort of jerk that caused Minhyun's stomach to plummet right down to his knees, he immediately had a sinking feeling that something was not right. This unexpected jolt only intensified his worry and discomfort about being trapped in such a confined space with no clear means of escape. The sense of unease and awkwardness grew within him, and he couldn't help but crack a nervous smile at the older man standing beside him, who appeared completely unfazed by the situation.
"Right," Minhyun muttered quietly to himself, shaking his head in disbelief at the offer of a yogurt that he knew he wouldn't be able to keep down under the circumstances. As his anxiety escalated, beads of sweat began to form on his forehead, and he found himself leaning back, gripping the metal bar that ran along the back of the elevator with white-knuckled hands, desperately seeking some sense of stability and reassurance.

โi canโt do this without you.โ
โwhat a dumb thing to say.

A carnival had come to town, much to Minhyun's amusement. He watched, a soft snort of a laugh escaping him, as his sister grumbled and complained about their parents' overwhelming excitement. Who could blame them, though? In such a small, close-knit community, events like these were rare and often sparked a surge of inquisitive tourists. It was a break from the norm for those who weren't born and raised in the area, a welcome reprieve from the usual hustle and bustle of city living offered by the likes of Seoul and Busan.
It didn't surprise Minhyun in the least to see his sister artfully dodging their parents' attempts to transform the carnival into a family outing. She gave the excuse of having practices that would run for the entire month, claiming she would be far too exhausted to join in the festivities. No one truly believed her, but equally, no one wanted to endure the inevitable explosion that would ensue if they tried to rope her into something she had no interest in participating in.
In the end, Minhyun found himself the recipient of a pair of tickets from their parents, who encouraged him to take a friend and truly experience all the carnival had to offer. This delighted Minhyun greatly. It would be his first experience at a carnival. Throughout his life, he had never even ventured to an amusement park, so this carnival would serve as something of a stepping stone.
Wide-eyed and filled with the same sense of anticipation that the young children displayed, Minhyun entered the carnival. He'd managed to acquire a tiger-like headband that jiggled and wobbled atop his head as he ran excitedly from one stall to the next. The first ride that came into his line of sight was the drop tower. His immediate reaction was a resounding no. He was ready to turn tail and find something less likely to shave 30 years off his life.
That was, until he saw him. Siwoo. Despite the approaching evening dimness, Minhyun could pick Siwoo out from anywhere. He paused for a moment, watching as Siwoo took a seat on the ride. The next thing he knew, he was sitting beside Siwoo, his heart pounding wildly in his chest as he ignored his earlier reservations about the ride.
