In my regular life, I talk a lot about growing, raising, and preserving my own food. Whenever I do, I'm always shocked by the number of people who respond telling me it's easier to just get it at the store. I know it's easier to go to the Walmart and pick up some cans of green beans and a bag of frozen chicken breasts, but I don't want easy.
I want a slow and simple, I want peace of mind about what's in my food and how the animals I consume were treated in life and how they were dispatched. I want my kids growing up with a strong grasp of where their food comes from and how it gets on their plate, I grew up hungry and never want my children to take food for granted.
I don't want to rely on there being a grocery store always open because what if they close? What if we shut down again? What if there is a disaster and I can't get to the store? all of these things have happened and can happen again.
I want the peace of mind and joy of knowing that I have these skills and have worked hard to improve for the benefit of my family. I want to know I can pass these dying skills on to the next generations and keep them going.
I want the memories of snapping beans and shucking corn on my front porch with my youngins the way I did with my mammaw. I want my kids out chasing bugs in the gardens and eat tomatoes off the vine.
It is worth the time for me to raise my chickens and snap my green beans, it's worth the mess and the labor and doubt from other people.

The redbuds made such a pretty colored syrup that I decided to make another batch of red bud tea to see if I could use it to dye a small piece of linen for an embroidery project.
I’ll let it steep overnight.

I picked up an Ashford Country Spinner recently for chunky yarns and decided she needed a personal touch!
Tumblr media
I’ve named her Ava.
She currently has 15 warbler species and a Hermit Thrush completed, but I’ll be adding more on other surfaces little by little! I went with a heavily simplified, pretty stylized style and I’m loving how it’s turning out.
The next few I’m working on are all 4 species of North American nuthatches on each side corner

yesterday i attended a trans day of visibility pop-up market in my city as a vendor!!
Tumblr media
it went really well and it was the best day of sales i've ever had!! i mostly sold zines and houseplants, but i did give out the remaining flower bouquets to the vendor friends i made + a particularly pretty one to the host/organizer of the market!
this was actually also the first market that i did by myself! usually i have this friend who does convention booths regularly who drives us & provides their setup materials, but they were at galaxycon this time, so i had been looking for my own market setup stuff and successfully found everything i needed! aaand for transportation, my dad let me borrow his car since i was house-sitting for my parents this weekend.

i'm feeling really proud of myself!! it was a wonderful time & i made lots of new friends + connections!
