Ok serious, but somewhat sarcastic question- when did this fandom (if you can call hating half the characters fans) decide that two characters liking each other inherently means they are mates? Like genuinely how did we get to this narrative when SJM literally wrote about how rare mating bonds are.

Now suddenly Helion and Lady of Autumn are mates, because we know they used to like each other. I’m sorry but the likelihood Helion let his mate be ruthlessly beaten and treated like a brood mare for years, seems wildly unlikely. Especially considering he would have had a magical “claim” to her. And if they were mates, why would Lady not want to be with Helion? It makes no sense. But suddenly these two are mates and are going to cause a Blood Duel despite Helion never once fighting for the Lady of Autumn for hundreds of years.

Please tell me how Helion suddenly giving a shit, is more realistic than an ill suited bond (that has been called into question multiple times) is broken. How is a Blood Duel with Helion and Beron more likely than a Blood Duel over the Elain/Lucien bond? Elain’s bond is the ENTIRE reason the Blood Duel was even mentioned in the first place.

This is the anti Elriel math:

Elain and Lucien don’t vibe + Multiple characters question their bond + there is discussion of Elain rejecting the bond + the Blood Duel is discussed as a way to overcome Elain’s bond + Elain is interested in someone that is not her mate + Lucien lives with another woman who makes him blush = Beron and Helion Blood Duel / Helion and Lady of Autumn are mates.

This is pure, blatant, bias dressed up as ignorance. Also it’s one thing to delude yourself into thinking Azriel is interested in anyone but Elain (talking cannon not interpretation or fanfics) but it is absolutely wild to believe that any of these fanon ships are mates.

Azriel has spent time with every character he is shipped with (except Rhys’s sister as far as we know) and yet somehow never figured out that other person is his mate. Everyone in these ships are Fae, the mating bond should have snapped between them by now. The Archeron bonds were different and didn’t snap immediately because the girls were Human when they met their mates. And isn’t it convenient that the second Elain was no longer Human she was “given to another.”

The retconning these days is diabolical, and it’s not the delusion that gets me, it’s the desperation. The need to alter facts because you desperately need to be right. The incessant gaslighting is hopes that convincing others of your “theory” somehow makes it true. Stop reading books you don’t like then berating the people that actually do enjoy them.

I am so happy to share another art piece I commissioned based off my modern mafia AU Elriel fanfic, The Light Between Sin & Salvation! You can see the art in Chapter 12 as well 😍.

In this steamy moment, Azriel has recently been shot in the shoulder on accident by Elain and they are dying for a taste of each other, but find it difficult based on their forced proximity to their families and Azriel's injury. But Elain always knows how to make the best of a situation 😌😉

lmaoo imagine thinking Lucien of all characters will one day be equally powerful as Rhys.. Imagine actually thinking SJM will do something so asinine lol. What type of crack do the lucien girlies smoke hahaha. Lucien stans really miss how SJM writes her fav main male characters and let me tell you Lucien is clearly not IT. Clearly the male who can only winnow short distance and has no on screen win or feat is the actual contender for High King and superior to Rhys..yawn. Luc stans living the delulu dream as always. Okay I'm not sure why the antis separate the Koschei plot and the Dusk court plot?? Like I know my memory of the books are kinda fuzzy but pretty sure Koschei was looking to get his hands on the Dread trove, trove items which originated and are connected to the Dusk court. It just seems like the easiest connection to make. Then we have the last Made sister, Elain who can also wield the troves and Azriel who very recently in hofas was present for Dusk court shenanigan and their stories still haven’t been told..like what else do you need to make the connection?? Also the pathetic Illyrian revolt plot that GAs keep clinging to, that is a subplot at best and a footnote at worst lol. Pretty sure most of the illyrian males will join Koschei when he inevitably gets free (Just like Beron tbh). Then the Illyrian revolt will be dealt with. Like I have 99% hunch Koschei will get free in Elriels book lol. Anyways rant over

Something I haven’t been able to get out of my head for the next book is Elain using truth teller to unmake her unwanted mating bond and choosing the male who truly sees her; who has shown, in so many tiny ways throughout the series, what love can really be like with the right person. It will be so powerful to see her take fate into her own hands, after being at the whims of those around her for so long.

For this piece, I imagined Azriel as a merman living in a pond in Elain’s garden, observing the beautiful gardener from afar and falling in love with her secret, lovely beauty. Elain eventually discovers him after he’s been observing her for some time and is just as smitten with him despite the challenges they would face. I loved the idea of a different kind of twist on forbidden love for MerMay/Elriel Month and Andi knew exactly how to capture what I had been envisioning 🌸

Thank you @jpeg.andie for always being so wonderful to work with!! This was such a fun piece to collaborate with you on, it came together so beautifully, and you blew me away with all of the exquisite details!! 🥰

Elriel Month // Free Day

For my final Elriel Month commission, I wanted a piece where they were, quite simply, happy and content together. Like many Elriels, I've always gravitated toward the image of Elain clinging to Azriel "just to have some peace and quiet." In a chaotic world, I love the thought of them finding refuge in each other.

And happy Elriel Month to everyone! It always amazes me every year just how fast May flies by. Each time, I am blown away by all the art and writing and creativity on display. We may not have our Elriel book yet, but I love the little community we've built during this endless wait.

My latest piece was inspired by the painting by Dean Cornwell, 'The Other Side', 1918. The beautifully intimate kiss between reunited lovers and the fully extended wings sparked my creativity to incorporate a dusk palette for Elain and Azriel. I did a lot of exploring with this piece and I'm very pleased with the new stained glass look I went for. 🥰

The gray light of morning had broken over the world, mist clinging to our ankles as we headed into that camp, Azriel still cradling Elain to his chest. He dripped blood behind him the entire time—a trickle compared to the torrent that should be leaking out. Contained only by the patches of power he’d slapped on it. Help—he needed a healer immediately.

Rhys lunged for Azriel, taking Elain from him and gently setting my sister down. Azriel rasped, swaying on his feet, “We need Helion to get these chains off her.” Yet Elain didn’t seem to notice them as she rose up on her toes and kissed the shadowsinger’s cheek.

A glimpse into Elain and Azriel’s happy future. Despite all their trials and tribulations, they’ve managed to carve out a space for themselves (and at least one more!) in Prythian; they’ve created their own happy ending, regardless of what others expected of them. Now Azriel can finally rest peacefully, knowing the love of his life and his child are safe in his arms, and Elain can rest peacefully knowing she was able to give him that.
