End of the year greetings
End of the year greetings
As 2020 drags to a close, we would like to thank everyone for their engagement with Quiet Australians Stand Up. Thanks for helping with leaflet drops, signing petitions, writing submissions and attending our silent vigils. There has been some slight forward movement with Scott Morrison at least announcing that we’ll drop the Kyoto carry-over credits. Much to do next year.. sounds like there might…

1 week till next QASU vigil
1 week till next QASU vigil
Only 1 week until our next silent vigil.
Not surprisingly, PM Scott Morrison did not get one of the 70 speaking slots at this weekend’s UN Climate Summit. The government can try to hoodwink the Australian public into believing it has a feasible climate policy, but the grown-ups have worked out that dropping the Kyoto carryover credits (i.e. not cheating) is NOT a climate policy.
Please…

Latest from Dave Sharma
Latest from Dave Sharma
In the AFR, our own Dave Sharma MP, “modern” liberal and self-professed climate action enthusiast has written an opinion piece in which he talks up the success of Australia’s climate action to date and the Technology Roadmap.
In line with LNP policy he says we will seek to reach net-zero emissions as soon as possible. No gaol, no plan.
So why not set a zero-emissions target of “NO LATER…

QASU Vigil 7 November

The NSW government announced last Thursday that it will allow “an outdoor protest or demonstration about a governmental or political matter to take place with up to 500 persons”.
So, it’s time for a QASU silent vigil outside Dave Sharma’s office. This will be held in a covid-safe way on Saturday 7 November 9-11 am.
Zali Steggall, independent MP for Warringah, is introducing a revised…

Dave Sharma community survey
Dave Sharma community survey
Dave Sharma has sent a community survey to parts of his electorate – not sure why not all of it – which presents a great opportunity to let him know your concerns include “tackling climate change”. Perhaps he will understand that many people in his electorate believe that the Covid recovery must take into account climate change and that the government needs to set proper targets (2030 target…

Write a letter to your MP
Write a letter to your MP
We are on the verge of a disastrous expansion of Australia’s gas industry, will you take ten minutes to write to your local paper about the government’s planned fossil fuel stimulus package? It has come out via senate inquiry that the government is pushing ahead with a plan to invest heavily in Australia’s gas sector. No report or other rationale has been released, but we know the following:
