#GoCarInvades: Plaza Damas, Sri Hartamas.
To those who have requested for more GoCars in Sri Hartamas, weâve heard you! For the past year, weâve been serving the Mont Kiara community and now, you may pick up a GoCar at Mayfair Tower and Plaza Damas, Sri Hartamas too.
While Sri Hartamas appears to be the soft-spoken sister to the ever-happening Mont Kiara, Plaza Damas and Hartamas Shopping Centre are the pulse of Sri Hartamas and picking up a GoCar here has never been so convenient.Â
Weâve explored around and hereâs what we found:
1. Fuss-free Lunch Spot- The Kanteen Plus, Plaza Damas.
F-0-5, Plaza Damas, No. 60, Jalan Sri Hartamas 1, Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Indoor or outdoor? Your pick

.

Whether youâre up for western food or a simple Nasi Lemak, Kanteen Plus does not disappoint and itâs a rather popular lunch spot for nearby offices and residents and we can see why.

Their Nasi Lemak Sambal Sotong is one choice you wonât regret! Rice paired with crunchy nuts and fried anchovies, their squid sambal goes so well all together and it costs less than RM15 for a decent lunch.

So if youâre picking up a GoCar after lunch, why not try drop by for lunch?
2. Coffee, Cakes and Hangout: The Rubberduck (@rubberduckquack)
Lot K-08B (Dorchester Service Apt.), Plaza Damas, Kuala Lumpur.

Rubberduck is a personal favourite and if youâve visited them before, youâll know what we mean. No stranger to frequent patrons, Katrina and Lin are the smiley people behind the success story of Rubberduck. Started off at a cute corner of Plaza Damas, the store saw the need to accommodate swarming patrons and now, their new space is so spacious that they had ventured into something they had always wanted to do before the birth of Rubberduck. What could it be? But first, coffee.

âGet your caffeine fix here too! Whether to go or dine-in, pair your coffee with some cakes too!â

.

âRaspberry Almond Cakeâ
Rich in flavour, the and light raspberry complements the moist almond cake really well. RM12 on the price tag, gotta try!

âMochi Cakeâ
This RM6 Yorkshire pudding look-alike is a gluten free vanilla flavoured Mochi cake. Hard on the outside and soft on the inside, the vanilla filling has a moderate sweetness and itâs definitely safe for those who are counting calories.

âNot feeling gluten-free or raspberry cake? Check out their spread of cakes at the counter!â

âBrownies, anyone?â

âFood made with loveâ

âRattan chair or sofa, these prints made us feel like weâre on a tropical holiday!â

âQuack!â :3
Letâs get Fit!: Aloha Cycle Club
Lot K-08B (Dorchester Service Apt.), Plaza Damas, Kuala Lumpur.

Brought to you by the same people from Rubberduck, the Aloha Cycle Club opened its doors early this year and the classes have been well-received by both local fitness enthusiasts and amateur indoor cyclists. Needless to say, this spinning studio is the brainchild of both fitness enthusiasts, Lin and Katrina
âIt was something that we wanted to start like 10 years ago even before Rubberduck came about but we were held down by many other things.â
-Lin

Equipped with the state-of-art SpinnerÂź Ride from Precor, these solid and sturdy cycling machines would be a pleasure to ride on!

No one is left behind (literally)! With a class ratio of 1 instructor to a maximum of 20 participants, rest assured that youâll be given enough attention and proper guidance.
Currently, Aloha Cycle Club has 3 types of classes to offer:
Aloha Ride
The cycle clubâs signature 45-minute beat-driven indoor cycling class includes a warm up, a portion of upper body strength movements, followed by aerobic and anaerobic interval training, punctuated with some mindfulness training and a cool-down session.
Ala Ride
âAlaâ means road, path, way in Hawaiian and this 45-minute âAla Rideâ will take you on a journey set to pumping music, resistance and speed training that is an overall kick-ass high-intensity cardiovascular workout!
Intro Ride
Newbies, this is the class for you. Young or old, this basic 45-minute workout session will enable you to learn movements of indoor cycling and break a sweat.

These Shimano cycling shoes are available for loan at no charge.Â

Lockers and shower rooms are available for use at no extra charge too. How thoughtful.Â

.

.

Fresh towels can be rented for RM5 and upon returning, all used towels are washed after every session.

Think youâre ready to start acting upon your new yearâs resolution to keep fit? Give spinning classes a try! For only RM50 per session, youâll be guided by professional coaches and sweat it out.
Thatâs all for GoCarâs Sri Hartamas invasion report. Think thereâs more to explore in the locality of Sri Hartamas? Drop us a comment on our Facebook page!
Good day & Cheers!

How NOT to Burnout at Work
Remember the time when you were in your graduation robe and all you could think of was getting a really nice job, earn some money and be loved by the imaginary employer that exists only in your hopeful mind? It felt almost like you were so ready to take on the world and destroy any naysayers in your way.
âYeah, me too.â
Eleven months (and counting!), to be exact, is the term since I've started my full-time employment in a startup and of course along the first few weeks, work has hinted me to throw away those wishful thinkings off the grid and be prepared to hustle âtill death do us (work and myself) part. In the earlier months, itâs full speed ahead and work isnât going to go all âAww you poor little thing, get some restâ. More effort is to be given to adapt to your new environment, and furnishing yourself a good impression for your employer is crucial, almost feel like giving up but everything is under control at the moment. #phew
Halfway through the financial year, the pace gets faster as the company goes through puberty and everyone is hustling to feed the companyâs increasing appetite for growth. Stress builds up and emotions run high, and all you think of his how perfect it would be to be sitting in the lectures you once despised. And slowly along the way, it felt like everything was crumbling down and nobody loves you. This is the beginning of the process of getting burnt out and itâs a dead end if it is not addressed.
As stress builds up without being addressed, it becomes chronic stress and Dr Ballard, the head of the APAâs Psychologically Healthy Workplace Program suggests that this leads to burnouts. Burnout isnât exactly what you need as it affects a person negatively and subsequently kills all willpower to go on, whether in your personal or professional life.
Letâs face it â hustling is hard work and itâs inevitable that you break down sometimes. So here are some ways Iâve tried (you should try too!) to be sustainable at work:
1. Manage Your Expectations and Negotiate
This is the mantra of my supervisors and I finally came to understand why it is important to be honest regarding your limitations and your workload. Many times we put unnecessary stress upon ourselves by taking on extra work without considering what you have on your plate at that point in time. âThanks for taking up this matter!â your supervisor subsequently gives a pat on your back and it finally hit your senses that you have other important tasks pending and your heart whispers âsibeh jialat liaoâ (translation: Iâm in deep trouble). Always talk it out with your supervisors because most of the time, they are more than willing to help if you are willing to be honest and transparent to them.
2. Have enough sleep. Please.
For decades, your poor parents have been begging you to sleep early and sleep well, but their advice was not taken. You end up going to sleep at wee hours early enough to greet your neighbours good morning. Chances are your parents arenât sleep specialists but research supports that having less than 6 hours of sleep contributes greatly to your burnout at work as it affects your productivity at work and subsequently leading to poor work performance. Not only that, your decision-making powers will be hampered and multitasking would be more difficult. Think sleep is for the weak? Think again.
3. Escape and Disconnect
Escape doesnât mean ditching your responsibilities at work but rather a getaway to somewhere away from the hustle and bustles. Rent a GoCar and organise a weekend away with the family or your mates, and keep your mind off work for a moment. Try new food, challenge yourself to go for parasailing, watch a movie, explore local getaway destinations. Always set a boundary as to when to attend to your mobile phone and keep family time exclusive, after all, theyâre your support.
Itâs the beginning of the new year and there isnât time to burnout. Think you have a better way to be sustainable at work? Let us know!
Till then, have a great start to 2017 and #LetsHustle

How to Use the GoCar App? Hereâs How
youtube
You probably think there will be a physical counter or someone to hand you the car key at all GoCar locations, but in actual fact, the only thing that will be waiting for you is the GoCar that you have booked. An interesting fact about GoCar is that unlike traditional car rental services, we eliminate the need for manpower to pass you the car key and collect them at the end of your reservation. We discovered that we can actually put the power at your fingertips with the GoCar app.
From reserving to returning the GoCar, our app is capable of doing both. You thought as well how the car is going to unlock itself? Well, check out our step-by-step video on how to use the GoCar app.

Renting a car at KLIA or KLIA2?
Flying in for a holiday or a long layover in Kuala Lumpur? We all have been in the dilemma of whether to take public transport or use ride-sharing services but what if you could actually self-drive and explore the city without worrying about bus schedules or price surge?
To further help you decide whether renting a car or taking a public transport would be a great idea, we have made a comparison for you to plan your arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Ride-Sharing Services and Conventional Taxis.
Familiar to most people, ride-sharing services such as Grab and Uber are frequently used in Malaysia. Often labelled as transportation for self-entitled millennials, ride-sharing providers such as Grab and Uber are as enthusiastic about keeping their prices competitive and for a fact, their rates are much lower than airport taxis. Already tempted to opt for ride-hailing services? Hold your horses.
Assuming that youâve finally arrived in Kuala Lumpur for a sunny vacation, gotten your baggage and barely trying to control your excitement within. You step out of the terminal and you flagged down the airport limo. Your very action of flagging down an airport cab will cost you RM130 to RM150 for a one-way trip to the city centre. That having said, a return journey in a decent 5-seater taxi from Kuala Lumpur International Airport would cost you RM260 at least. Grand.
But what about Uber or Grab? How cheap is cheap? A trip from the airport to the city centre would cost you RM70+/way for an Uber. Thatâs quite some savings there init? Well, it gets even cheaper with Grab where it costs only RM65/way to the city centre not inclusive of toll charges.
Both Grab and Uber will require you to register for a free account.
Shuttle Bus and Airport Express Trains
Talk about cheap and affordable, shuttle bus wins the title of being the cheapest among all transportation methods. Standing at RM10 for one way to KL Sentral, itâs unbeatable. What are you waiting for!? Letâs go! Now, you and your travelling partner are now at KL Sentral, probably 15 to 20 minutes away from the city centre, finding it difficult to juggle your baggage and trying to console your partner after a very dissatisfied bumpy 1-hour ride on the bus. Think youâve saved quite some money? RM50 for a 1-hour bumpy ride isnât a good start and donât forget, you will need to call for a taxi or Uber to get into the city centre. Worth the hassle? I donât think so.
The KLIA express train works the same and ends its service at KL Sentral except it costs RM100 for returning trips per adult and RM45 for returning trips per child (2-12 years old).
Car-sharing and Car rental in KLIA or KLIA 2
You probably wouldnât think of renting a car thinking that it would be ridiculously expensive. What if there was a car-sharing/ car rental provider that offers you car rental for fraction of the price of conventional car rental services? RM99 is all it cost for a dayâs rental and the best thing is, you may drive to any part of the city and pay only RM99/day. GoCar has a fleet of Nissan Almeras deployed throughout Klang Valley as well as both the airports and these cars seat 5 people comfortably and those chunky baggage go right into the spacious boot. Assuming youâre renting it for a day, RM99 is all it takes to settle your transportation woes instantly for the day! If youâre wondering how to make a booking, head on to GoCar.my. Simply register, book and drive. Itâs that simple.
Think you may have other genius ways of getting to the city from the airport, give us a poke!

Love is a funny thing.Â
In a modern time and age, while romantic relationships still makes a popular discussion topic, we are also increasingly hearing more about other kinds of love, such as love for family members, friends, coworkers and more. Our society is also paving way to show more acceptance and understanding towards niche types of love, like platonic relationships.
It also goes without saying that different people express love in different ways, and sometimes the things we do to show the people who mean the most to us how much we appreciate them just backfires. Think: reorganising the dinnerware in the cupboard only to have your mum yell at you for âmessingâ her kitchen, tripping over the bed post and spilling coffee all over the sheets on the morning you thought would be nice to bring your partner some breakfast in bed, or receiving your Amazon package containing what wouldâve been the perfect gift for your best friendâs birthday if only you received it in the mail a week earlier.

Buying A Car in Malaysia
đ” âChromed out mirror, I don't need a windshield. Banana seat, a canopy on two wheels. Eight hundred cash, that's a hell of a deal!âđ”
We know Macklemore isnât referring to buying a car but sometimes buying one is just as exciting, especially if the figures on the price tag matches your budget. It started off with surveying new cars from different showrooms and browsing through the vast selection of pre-owned cars from the dealerships. Finally, you found a really decent hatchback for a good price and decide to purchase it.
Just when it seems like everything is done after saying âYes Iâll take thisâ, it only marks the beginning of the process of car ownership. Financing a vehicle is a continuous process. As long as you own the car, the things to consider would include insurance, road tax, interval service and maintenance, depreciation of value, and  an endless list of things you never thought you need to pay for.
âSir, you wanna apply your loan from X Bank or Y Bank ah?â
At this point, you will need to make a decision to sell your soul pick either bank with a lower interest rate. In general, interest rates differ when applying a loan for a new car (approximately 2.77%) or a pre-owned car (almost 4%), depending on the tenure period. So if you want to finance your vehicle without forking out a huge portion of your income, you can opt for a longer tenure (up to 9 years) but the interest rate imposed would be higher compared to a tenure of 3 or 5 years. The rates would be quite competitive between banks and you will be spoiled for choices but ultimately, your credit score decides whether you will be given a loan. Think youâre ready to apply for a loan? Make sure youâve got your most recent payslips in 3 months, a E-KWSP statement (you can request from your bank or print it yourself at self-printing kiosks) and bank account statement as part of your supporting documents before heading to the bank.
Having a credit card of the bank you are applying a loan at would help as it allows them to gauge your financial standing! Youâre welcome.
âWhat is this thing that adds up to 4 figures? Can I skip this part? Is this optional? But I have a personal insurance policy my parents bought when I was a kid.â
No, you canât skip and neither it is optional. This is the most important purchase that comes in a package with your car and it protects you from any monetary liability, such as accidental injury caused to a third party while operating your vehicle. Assuming that the car youâre going to get is a 1.5 litre compact sedan that has an insured value of RM58,000, the insurance would add up to at least RM1,800 along with your upfront payment. The good news is, the amount of insurance premium decreases along the years and insurance companies reward policy holders if they have not made any insurance claims, which is known as a No-Claims Discount (âNCDâ) where premiums are discounted up to 55%.
To help you further plan your budget for your next car, you may check out the insurance premium calculator available at CarBase.my.
âOil change and a couple of other stuff. That will be $500, sir.â
Interval service and maintenance may cause a little discomfort as you see your credit card getting swiped at the service center every time your car clocks 10,000km on the odometer, but it does help you save more in the long run. Certain cars attract unnecessary and expensive issues but getting your car checked on time may allow mechanics to detect a potential problem and rectifying it before your car completely gives way.
To give you a rough idea, the maintenance cost for a compact sedan would typically range from RM300 to RM700, depending whether it is a minor or major service.
The car isnât gonna run on H2O
With fuel prices going up more than it decreases, there are many cars in the market that boasts insanely economical fuel consumption. For example, the locally made Perodua Axia boasts a 21.5km/l if you behave yourself by being kind on the accelerator or the Mitsubishi Attrage that boasts a 21km/l fuel efficiency. Since fuel is the second highest cost of car ownership, it would be a smart move to pick a car that is aptly powered and of a lower engine displacement.
âOK Iâm having second thoughts now.â
If owning a car isnât your priority, there are other alternatives to moving around such as carpooling, public transportation, or ride sharing. While car ownership is the common way to go, car-sharing is an upcoming trend in Malaysia that gives you access to a car without owning one. In short, you pay for what you use. GoCar is the leading car sharing platform in Malaysia and renting by the hour costs only RM14.90 with insurance and fuel included. Expanding its services to different part of Klang Valley and Langkawi, you may pick up a car at the city centre, Bangsar, Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Cyberjaya, Petaling Jaya and Kuah Town.
For more information on how you can drive a car without owning one, follow us on Facebook and Instagram, or simply drop us a message at [email protected] and we canât wait to be in touch with you.
âTill next time!

5 Things to Add to Your New Yearâs Resolutions and How to Stick to Them
Itâs finally time to start thinking about your new yearâs resolutions. Youâre probably getting into the holiday mood full swing by now and you ask yourself âIs there really the need to plan think about new yearâs resolutions?â, thinking theyâre mostly backlogged from last year.
Then again, you wouldnât want to spend another year getting nowhere or making little progress because you know this could go on for a few more years. No time to waste and letâs get planning! Here are some pretty good ideas to include into your new yearâs resolutions.
1. Fitness and Health Goals
âMy goal was to lose 10kg in the beginning of the year. Checking my progress now, Iâve got 15kgs more to lose woohoo!â
âLook at the abundance of good food in Malaysia! Iâll start my diet tomorrow (never).â
This is probably found in everyoneâs new yearâs resolutions that are unfulfilled most of the time. Letâs be honest â it is indeed hard to get back in shape and sometimes our willpower falls in defeat to 365 days worth of excuses.
2. Skill Enrichment
Learn a new set of skills! Whether playing the harp, speaking Korean or picking up coding was something you always wanted to do, add it to your to-do list.
If there are some other skill sets that you would want to learn to make a living, LinkedIn has put together a list of the top 10 skills that are very likely to land you a job!
3. Make Wise Financial Decisions
Before even thinking of making your money grow to more money, the key to successful financial management is to save. If you tend to spend more than what goes into your bank account every month, youâll find yourself overspending and drowning in debts no matter how much you earn. Be someone that your future self would thank very much â start a fixed deposit account for yourself and start saving for the rainy days. Alternatively, you can start using free apps to track your spendings.Â
4. Start Clearing Away Clutters
Throwing away things can be difficult sometimes. There are sentimental values attached to certain items we deem as prized possessions, and it is common to keep and bring them along throughout phases of our lives. While storing things sounds far from harmful, research has proven that you should put them behind as it does not do your mental and physical health any favours. A study by Princeton University Neuroscience Institute shows that having unused things laying around your home actually contribute to your stress level, and a messy environment could be the reason why you are always tired.
5. Give Back to Society
Volunteering can be addictively rewarding. Restoring joy in the lives of the underprivileged will indirectly restore joy in your life, too. Certain volunteering experiences adds value to your CV, such as Teach for Malaysia, EPIC Homes, Raleigh International and MYCorps. So if you are looking to build your interpersonal skills and gain professional experience, adding volunteering to your 2017 resolution would be splendid.
Now that youâve got some ideas to add to your resolution, weâve found some ways to help you keep track of them!
1. Knowing the Purpose
To gain traction on your resolution, it has to be aligned with what you are passionate about or something that you stand for. If you have added âHave rock-hard, washboard abs by year endâ, youâre going to need a damn good reason to keep yourself pumped up to check it off your 2017 resolution. Having said this, a strongly grounded purpose compels you to stick to your goals and and would probably give you the extra push you need to do those extra TRX planks and crunches.
2. Donât Miss the Details
Get into the fine details. Ask yourself how much time you would want to commit in volunteering or how frequent you would want to attend classes to learn a new music instrument and where would you like to learn from. Be it formal classes or just from the internet, remember to be specific.
3. Positive Vibes Only
Doing something out of your comfort zone is tough enough and imagine having naysayers buzzing âNOPEâ all around. Tragic, isnât it? Surround yourself with people who are supportive of your goals. Choose to be in a conducive environment that allows you to learn better. If you are going to learn new language, try watching TV shows of that particular language and practice among your peers who are working towards the same goal.
4. Set Your Eyes on What is Important
We tend to get super pumped up for the new year with a list of resolutions that could be quite extensive and ambitious. Of course, there isnât anything wrong about being ambitious, but it is good to focus and prioritise on whatâs important. Donât forget to give yourself a reasonable timeframe to accomplish them.
5. Old School Pen and Paper
Itâs always cool to have apps and stuff to list your new yearâs resolutions, but it is proven that writing down would increase the probability of achieving goals by more than 70%. Youâre welcome.
6. âI Eat Failure for Breakfastâ
Most of us are result-obsessed creatures, and we want results almost instantly. Remember the time you did some sets of planking and checked for your non-existent abs in the mirror? Letâs be reasonable here. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will you be speaking French like a Parisian in such a short span of time.
Mistakes are necessary for progressive learning, so donât be afraid to screw things up. Trial and error works well, but the main key here is to anticipate failures and be patient. When the results start kicking in, youâll be motivated to keep moving on even more!
That would be all from us at GoCar. Share your experiences sticking with your new yearâs resolutions by leaving us a comment below.
Have a blessed Christmas!

#GoCarCulture: The Humans of GoCar
The humble beginnings of GoCar go back as far as a year ago where our first  work mule, a Perodua Viva, started serving our members at Shaftsbury Residence, Cyberjaya.
With our recent partnership with Warisan Tan Chong, to date, managing almost 50 GoCars on the road (and counting) would take a dedicated team to ensure the smooth running of our car-sharing initiative. From a one-man army to a core team of nine, everyone at the GoCar HQ plays a vital role. Youâre probably curious about who are these people handling your phone calls, upkeeping the wellbeing of vehicles for your comfort, attending to you on our Facebook chat. To let you have a hint about the humans of GoCar, they have answered 3 spontaneous so here it goes!
TJ Tan (Founder and Managing Director)
The main man who single handedly brought GoCar to life and senior visual design specialist by profession.

Question 1: Entrepreneurship isnât easy. What were your initial thoughts about leaving your comfort zone in Australia to start something uncertain in Malaysia?
I did not see it as entrepreneurial endeavour, but more of a potential and opportunity as the transportation landscape in KL was shifting with the arrival of ride sharing services along with MRT and LRT expansion. Making the leap from from my comfy job at Westfield to forming my own venture was like a calling â the only challenging part was the move out of my apartment, along with consolidating my belongings that I hoarded over the years.

Question 2: How would you describe a perfect weekend?
If I can discover something new. It could be a new cuisine, cafe, bars or place.

Question 3: If thereâs one thing (except your work computer) you could save from the office in the event of a fire, what would it be?
I would check for everyone to be safe. If there's more time, my phone!
Alan Cheah (Chief Operations Officer)
The team leader behind every partnership and corporate relations, and also the âemotion stabiliserâ of the office.

Question 1: You are always in solid coloured tees and jeans. Is there a reason behind this or just a personal preference?
Inspired by Mark and Steve, you have to make so many decisions in a day, you donât want to waste your brainpower to think on what you should wear for the day. Use it on important decisions. Try to automate and minimise daily decisions as not to waste precious time on it.

Question 2: You deal very much with business developments affairs and forming new corporate relations. What do you bring along with you in your bag when you go out to âcapture the flagâ?
My notebook to take down notes and it shows to potential network that I am hearing what they say. Name cards for obvious reasons and it is a good conversation starter since our name card is so small. A well prepared value added proposal catered to their needs, and my kick-ass personality for the day ;)

Question 3: If there is a quote that would motivate your team members, what would it be?
âIt's not what happens to you, itâs what you do about itâ
Sai (Resident Web Developer)
Works his magic in the dark room of GoCar HQ. From making cars unlock by itself to making sure your app is functional, heâs the man.Â

Operations and Fleet
Cheryll Wong (Head of Department)
The iron lady in the office that keeps things running and checked.

Question 1: What is your definition of #CarGoals and why?
Tesla, because itâs an electric car that offers just enough luxury and technology to justify its high pricing. Can you believe it goes from zero to sixty miles per hour in under 3 seconds? Not to mention, the fact that itâs pioneered by Elon Musk whoâs THE real life Tony Stark who's pushing forth Nikola Teslaâs invention of electricity. That in itself merits a tribute.
Question 2: Best place to be right now and why?
The best place to be right now is ânowâ. Iâm taking a more philosophical approach because I think more than ever I have come to appreciate the ability to "be mindfulâ and "to be in the nowâ. When you set your mind to work on things that matter to you, ânowâ is everything and you appreciate what little free time you have to do the things you enjoy like read a book or getting to know someone new or to reconnect with a love one. Even long dreary car rides can be enjoyable if you pop on an interesting podcast and expand your mind. Howâs that for food of thought?

Question 3: What is one cause you would fight for?
I would fight against absolute morality because absolute morality spans across every issue there is and if we were to solve this, we are essentially solving most issues surrounding humanity. Namely, ignorance. (of course, thatâs a bit of wishful thinking).
Even though I donât believe in a one size fits all rule, I do understand that certain entities do have to take a firm political stance to avoid cherry picking. For example, the pro choice or pro life scenario. Even though you pick a stance, every case should be approached differently.
I believe society would benefit from morality that is well thought out, reasoned, argued and discussed based upon the kind of society we want to live in. The reason why we are so far removed from slavery and are getting closer to solving gender equality is because of consensus of reasoning, sober discussion and argument, legal theory, and political and moral philosophy. This is a war that we should keep fighting for.
Zim Yeow (Fleet and Operations Executive)
Heâs data hungry and heâll be sure to scavenge every digit on the sheet.

Question 1: You're the newest member of GoCar. Why GoCar?
Working in a startup, you're able to bring your ideas and bring quick change to a company. It also challenges you to think faster and creative ways of problem solving with limited resources and time.
Question 2: Best lunch time spot?
No, itâs a hidden spot! NEVER!

Question 3: Favorite music genre?Â
Video game soundtrack  (Nobuo Uematsu, Jack Wall) or film score (Henry Jackman, Hans Zimmer).
Marketing and Business Development
Ashley Chew (Head of Department)
The happy pill in the office. Always getting things done in the most positive way possible.

Question 1: Do you always bring 2 bottles to work? Weâre curious about its contents
Oh yeah, thatâs really observant! Most of the days I will bring 2 bottles to work, one will be my water bottle and another will be my mini flask. I will drink H20 and ginger water throughout the day even though it is not my favourite drink. Reason being is that my dad is an avid follower of origin point medicine and it teaches you the numerous benefits of drinking ginger water. The fact that I have a weaker body by nature, I have been drinking ginger water for the past 5 months, 4 to 5 days a week. I now no longer feel cold easily as it has warming effect and it stimulates circulation.

Question 2: Youâve been a fitspiration to us at the office. What is your strategy to losing weight and what is your current workout routine?
I have been following @sherlyn_fitness in Instagram since a year back and she has been working out using @kayla_itsines #BBG program. Her body progress is amazing. You guys should check her out! Since then, I started following the other avid Malaysian BBG followers â @sunflower_bbg, @jessica91fitness in Instagram, just to name a few and they motivated me to start exercising using Kaylaâs guide book. I started working out religiously since December 2015, 3 times a week with a mix of HIIT and LISS exercises. After 2 to 3 months, my friends and team mates begin to see the difference in me - flatter tummy, toner and less flabby! But of course, it is always about 80% diet and 20% workout.

Question 3: Next holiday plans?
âMaybe Mongolia or Bhutan! I love visiting countries with beautiful scenery from majestic waterfalls, and lost cities, to mysterious landmarks and natural wonders. Get the chance to explore New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar, Vietnam, Singapore, China, France, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand and Korea. Canât wait to see whatâs next for me. Adventure awaits!â
Joelle Chew (Marketing Executive)
Copywriting ninja and forever getting things done.

Question 1: Describe yourself in 140 characters or less.
I like my coffee dark and my alcohol strong, like my soul.
Question 2: Being an avid writer, what do you usually write about?
I write about anything that comes to mind, finding words to build a narrative and tell a story. People fail to realise how important the art of storytelling is, and that writing is an avenue to finding your voice. Most of my written pieces are about sharing personal experiences, growing pains, hitting milestones in life, and my perspectives on them â the only difference is in the writing styles I experiment with. I started off with writing about 500 to 800 words on my blog when I was 14. Recently, I challenged myself to publish shorter poetry-like writings on Instagram that doesnât really adhere to any literary forms. There is nothing earth shattering about breaking the rules, but there is something liberating about creative freedom.

Question 3: Would you consider yourself a workaholic or otherwise?
If you do what you love for a living, chances are youâll invest your time and emotions to it because youâre doing something you believe in. It will be your purpose to look forward to get out of bed every morning. It will be more than just a job. Eventually, it becomes part of who you are as well. Thatâs the case for me. So the answer is no, because Iâm a social media junkie and part of my job requires me to be on Facebook and Instagram a lot (donât be fooled, itâs not an easy task!).Â
Deeb Fauzallah (Graphic and Visual Designer)
Infographics and designs, she has everything under her sleeves.

Question 1: You have made known to everyone in the office that youâre an animal lover. Which animal have you adopted at home is your ultimate favourite?
Yes, you got it right! My backyard is like a mini zoo. Obviously my cat is my number one but... I can't say no to my one and only monkey, rabbit and iguana too. Well, letâs just say all animals I adopted get equal love from me. Each of them has a very unique personality, too.
Question 2: If you could acquire one new skill now to switch professions, what would it be?
Definitely a Fashion Designer or Makeup Artist (MUA). Actually, both are somewhat related to arts too. To me, fashion gives you soul â your attire and look are ways to say who you are without having to speak for yourself.â

Question 3: Constantly staying home netflix/iflix all day or constantly out for retail therapy?
âHmm... I must say I rarely stay at home 24/7 because... when I do nothing I easily get bored and my day will  not be productive enough. But not all the time i go out and hang out, sometimes i want âmy timeâ by watching a movie and  spending my leisure in a quiet room watching movie series or the tv watching me.â
Edmund Choon (Resident Writer and Blogger)
I write, I shoot, and I drink (coffee).

Question 1: Is a picture worth a thousand words?
Defo! It provides room for different interpretations and it sometimes translates the intention of the photographer. Apart from that, itâs a really good reason for me to tell my supervisor when I fall short of word count for my blog posts.
Question 2: How honest are you?
Hmm... yeah...
Question 3: How often do you spend time doing photography and what are your gears?
Well, pretty much everyday. I have my trusty Samsung Alpha mobile phone with me and whatever that interests me, Iâll start shooting. On some days when I plan to photoshoot, Iâll have the Fujifilm X-A1 with me. Cafe visits, touristy visits to the city, Iâll be sure to have my gears with me.

GoCar Features: #EmilyTakesGoCar by Emily Choong
âHow would you describe Malaysia?â
âWhat is good in Malaysia? Where should I visit?â
âWhat would be the one thing people say about your country?â
When answering these questions, I would never fail to speak of my favourite Malaysian dishes. Being a multicultural nation, Malaysians take pride in their variety of local cuisine. From Malay to Chinese, Indian and not forgetting Sabahan and Sarawakian cuisines, our country is so rich in food that it would be impossible to not talk about how it plays a vital role in our identity. We may not be dubbed as one of the most liveable countries in the world, but if there is one thing that we do right, it would be our food.

When I lived overseas, I was one of those people who would miss how cheap our food is. It irks me to see how our hawker food has entered the world of fancier tables and chairs, charging plates and bowls that hold recipes passed down for generation at prices not worth paying for; especially considering methods of cooking for convenience and speed, and authenticity of ingredients. Though it took a while to readjust to traffic jams and what not after half a year of completing my studies overseas, I have come to terms of how our country has so much more to offer. Working in the food scene of Kuala Lumpur for the past two years had inspired me to give my city a chance â a chance to show what it is like to be a Malaysian through our food and culture, a chance to explore different ways of life, a chance to fall in love with the city I grew up in all over again.

Born to Penangite parents, and other than being a pure #BudakSubangJaya, Penang will always have a special place in my heart. This is one place I never fail to visit every single year, primarily for Chinese New Year. More often than not, going back once a year is never enough to satisfy all the hawker food cravings that come and go. There is something about eating by the roadside, watching life go by, and discovering hidden gems at unexpected corners of the island, that drives me to continue to explore. I have always wanted to go back to Penang not during the festive season, so when the opportunity to travel with GoCar came about, there was no saying ânoâ. I am no stranger to GoCar from a previous first experience where we took the car up to Genting Highlands for a festival. Very satisfied with their service, of course I would be a returning customer whenever I am in need of a car.
What is GoCar?
GoCar is a car sharing platform, acquired by Mayflower Car Rental Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Warisan Tan Chong Holdings Berhad, early this year. It is designed to allow users to rent cars by the hour for RM14.90 per hour or by the day for RM99 per dayâ, self-service style using the GoCar smartphone application.â The whole process upends traditional car rental, which involves negotiating with sales staff and paying in cash at the counter. Driving licenses, payments (credit or debit cards), booking, cancellation, and emergency requests are processed via their smartphone application. Anyone can join GoCar as a member â provided that drivers are 21 years old and above with a full valid driverâs licence. For international members, your driverâs license must have an English translation.
GoCarâs recent partnership with Tan Chong allowed the company to have access to 160 cars for deployment this year to various locations in Malaysia. There are currently over 20 locations in the Klang Valley including KLIA, KLIA2, Mont Kiara, Cyberjaya, Petaling Jaya, Kelana Jaya, Balakong, KL City, Glenmarie, Cheras and Bangsar with 40+ cars on the road (as of 14 November 2016). Aside from Klang Valley, GoCar will be deploying 10 cars to Langkawi and approximately 50 cars to Johor by the end of the year. GoCar is actively working to getting more cars on the road due to its increasing demand, so expect to see more from them soon!
How To Use GoCar
In this digital era, everything is at your fingertips through smartphones. You can book GoCar easily through their free and user-friendly application, available on Android and iOS devices, where you can select the length of booking period, your car of choice, and which hub would you like to pick up and return your car. Do take note that the hub you collect your car from will be the exact same one where you will return the car to. GoCar is still in the middle of working through a hub-to-hub system in the near future.
Once youâve made your booking, you will be receiving a confirmation email with the details of your booking. You can then make your way to your hub of choice and start your reservation through the app. Pay attention to the details they require such as snapping shots of the car before driving it. For your own safety, do a quick and thorough inspection, and take note of even the smallest scratches. Report them to GoCar immediately or at your earliest convenience.
To unlock the car and get your keys, click on the âUnlockâ button on the application and the car will unlock itself within 1 minute. In the glove compartment, you will find a safe box containing your car keys. Punch in the pincode given to you and voila! Another important thing to note is the âStart Fuel Levelâ because it is your responsibility as a user to return the car at the same fuel level before the end of your reservation.
Once you are done, leave the application as it is. Do NOT click on âEnd Sessionâ just yet and save that for the end of your trip. After inspecting the inside of the car, should you have no other issues, you can drive off. In the event where your car is dirty, contact GoCarâs customer service, explain the situation to them, and they are likely to suggest that you bring the car for cleaning where you can claim the cost with proof of receipt.

Traveling With A Nissan Almera

Nissan Almera is an entry-level car for GoCar. I personally think that it is pretty good for a basic car. I am no expert with cars but I can tell you for sure that this is a comfortable ride with a very spacious boot that can fit plenty of belongings. This car can go up the steep roads of Genting Highlands with four people and a boot full of bags, just to give you an idea of how powerful it is! So all you campers, heavy travelers, and people with lots of equipment to carry around, look no further.
Pearl of the Orient

View from Karpal Singh Drive.
Getting there
Departing from the Renault Building in Seksyen 13, PJ, we made our way to the NKVE highway. All you have to do is follow the Sungai Buloh way and it will take you to the North-South highway where you simply need to drive straight right until you see Georgetown.
Should you need to take a break, stop by the rest stop at Bukit Gantang where you can freshen up, take a short walk and fuel up on fruits. I was craving corn in a cup, which I bought from a random store at the corner. It was one of the best corn in the cups I have ever had. The secret ingredient? Condensed milk. Who knew?!
We started our journey at approximately 8.30am and reached Penang by lunch time. Be prepared to pay a bomb for the toll (RM49) so if you have insufficient balance in your Touch nâ Go card, take a ticket instead or top up way beforehand because there may be a long queue at the customer service office.
The car ride can be exhausting even though driving on a straight road. I would advise you to stop halfway or to not drive for more than two hours straight (if you actually studied for the Undang test, you would remember that you are highly encouraged to take a break after two hours of driving).
Pro tip: Get an AUX cable if you need music in the car. We got ours for about RM7.50 at Mr. DIY. The Nissan Almera does not have Bluetooth nor does GoCar provide any cables.
Finally arriving in Penang!
Be prepared to pay for another toll as you approach the Penang bridge, where you should get your cameras ready for the ocean view.
The first thing we thought about was to get food, obviously. We reached after lunch time so we had to, unfortunately, give the famous Sisters Curry Mee and kuey chap a miss as they would already have been sold out and closed. One thing we learnt about Penang was how quiet it can be on Mondays and Tuesdays. Most shops are closed and conveniently, it was also the start of the school holidays so there are people going on their long breaks already.

We resorted to Shell Station Asam Laksa at Farlim, which I knew would be open. I have been having their Asam Laksa almost every year I am in Penang. Though their standards have been a little inconsistent, their soup has always been flavourful and never fails to satisfy. Tip: order the popiah too because with all that leftover soup, the popiah works as a very tasty sponge. Eat the popiah and soup together, thank me later!
On another note, this particular shop has a really amazing pan mee soup stall. Pan Mee in Penang, what even?! Never would I have thought that Pan Mee would be available in Penang, what more topping off the standards of some popular places in the Klang Valley. Their soup was flavourful, noodles are stretchy and can be deemed as âal denteâ as the Italians would put it, there was enough ikan bilis for added texture and they have both meatballs and fishballs in the bowl. RM5.50. For real? Yes.

Next thing you can order at this same shop is the bak kua and chicken floss buns right next to the Asam Laksa stall. Simple yet delicious buns can never go wrong. The uncle claims that this is the best in Penang, I donât disagree at all. These are perfect road trip bites that may just be your next replacement for coffee on your next long drive.
By the time we were done with lunch, it was already time for checking in (thank goodness) so we made our way to town where our hotel was.
Container Hotel

Founded by Ryan Loo, the brother of Chatimeâs Bryan Loo, and his friend Vincent Tan, Container Hotel has three branches in Malaysia located at Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur and here in Penang, just a walking distance from the famous Chew Jetty. Taking inspiration from sustainable architecture, there is no missing the Container Hotel along Gat Lebuh Chulia, a fresh-looking building with a touch of greenery on its signboard. We found the place absolutely clean and well taken care of.
This hotel was a recommendation from a friend who was a guest a few months back. We booked two beds in the dormitory for RM27 each per night (before taxes and service charges) through Agoda. Free cancellations are allowed up to a certain date. Inclusive of WiFi, a tote bag, towel, a bottle of water (which can be refilled), toothbrush and toothpaste, the price per night was already so worth it. The female sharing toilet was clean, shampoo with conditioner, shower gel, and hair dryers are provided, the sleeping area was comfortable and clean as well, thereâs even a mirror within your little space and a desk if you are doing work. RM27 is way too affordable. The only thing we could not control was the type of guests we would be staying with. Unfortunately, an inconsiderate guest had his or her alarm go off for ten minutes straight at six in the morning, to the displeasure of many. If you are the type who prefers a little more privacy, even the private rooms are not very expensive for the quality of the hotel. Look through Agoda and you can get a deluxe room for RM124 per night for two people with an attached bathroom.

The living room was absolutely gorgeous. The bookshelves reminded me of L45 in Bangsar. With plenty of natural lighting from the windows, you can do your vlogs here and even take all the photos you want. Even their selection of books are super classic or are real gems that are no longer in publication. Amanda and I spent ages in the living room where we also ate our fried snacks we purchased from the roadside stall.
Tips on parking your GoCar in Penang: Container Hotel does not provide private parking spaces so you would definitely need to look around for any available public lot. Penang uses the coupon system for parking fees. You can get the orange or green coupon booklet (RM4 or RM8 size) from a nearby pharmacy along the same road, shade the tickets accordingly, and place them on the dashboard. Summons are given out every efficiently in Penang, so do not risk it!
A Walk Through The Clan Jetties

So what is there to do in Penang? EAT, of course. There is honestly no better way to discover this island than through its glorious food. I mean, what are calories, am I right? Seeing that the waterfront clans were nearby the hotel, and not being able to travel any further by car after such a long drive, we made our way to the Chew and Tan Jetties on foot.
Chew Jetty is said to be a UNESCO heritage site where the Chew clan is the biggest waterfront families in the area. From the last time I visited, there has been an increment stalls selling souvenirs of all sorts. Even ice cream stalls, henna tattoo services and a ramen shop have popped out of nowhere. Seems that there are plenty of tourists visiting, hence the more businesses.
Chew Jetty used to be the home of the boat mural, if you are into mural painting hunting in Penang, an activity that you should definitely do on bicycle to discover the town area. Over the years, it has unfortunately disappeared probably due to the quality of paint being washed away easily from the rain and change of weather. This jetty is great for those who would like to take OOTDs by the sea, especially on a sunny day. If you are interested in architecture, there are a couple of houses along this jetty with uniquely designed doors and walls although some residents do not allow photographs to be taken in front of their respective homes. Souvenirs are especially cheap in this area although they are repetitive as you explore more stalls.

Tan Jetty is located a few hundred metres from Chew Jetty. This is where I would normally get my loh bak (five spice meat roll) and cucur udang (prawn fritters) from. Made and fried fresh every day in thankfully-not-black oil, my parents never fail to order loh bak from this stall every time we were in Penang. By the way, ordering their frozen loh bak and bringing them back to Kuala Lumpur is not unheard of, just saying! They will be closed during Chinese New Year but open on the eve for half a day. Hereâs the number below for you to place your pre-orders so that they will be ready for you to collect before they close for the holiday.

On the way back to the hotel to freshen up, we passed by a stall selling all the fried goodness. Fried sweet potato slices, yam slices, nian gao, and even fried bread with corn and condensed milk filling from 70 cents to RM1.50 at most. Absolutely s-i-n-f-u-l. Yes, loh bak and prawn fritters in our bellies, fried snacks in our hands!
Postcard Shop

Nearby the hotel is a postcard shop for those postcard collectors and enthusiasts who are looking for heritage illustrations of Penang. I love the selection of postcards here, including the very heritage and rustic ambience of the shop with its unfinished look. Photography is not allowed within the shop but you can take photos of the outside.
This shop also sells rubber stamps of many designs including old buildings and Chinese zodiac signs. So, stationery addicts, you may want to have someone control your spendings here. Â

Chulia Street Hawker Food
Thereâs no leaving Penang without having a go at one of their most popular hawker food areas. Located right opposite Mugshot cafe, Chulia Streetâs hawker food is a heaven for foodies. This is where the famous Wantan Mee stall is located. In fact, when we arrived at the stall, we were greeted by a queue of at least seven people in line who were prepared to order (the number excludes people who are waiting for their food or takeaways).
It took a few minutes before the Auntie took our orders and even fewer minutes for our plates of wantan mee arrived fresh at the table. This has got to be one of my favourite places to get Wantan Mee simply because of the stringy noodles paired with the sauce that coats it. Starting from RM3.80 for a small plate, there is no going wrong with a stall like this that sells dry Wantan Mee, sui kau and nothing else. Definitely a living proof of the âdo one thing and do it goodâ business strategy!
Should your tummies be rumbling, calm the storm in your bellies with a little peanut snack called Muah Chee, located within the hawker food area, for RM3 a serving.
Note: Do not mistaken this stall for the Wantan Mee shop at the corner.
Greenhouse Hokkien Mee
Still hungry? Penang is not a dead town at night. My familyâs go-to supper place is the Greenhouse Hokkien Mee along Jalan Burma, one of the busiest hawker food centres when it comes to late night feasts.

Although the Bak Kut Teh, dim sum, and steamed chicken from the chicken rice stall are some of the decent options, do not skip having a bowl of Hokkien Mee here. Order a basic bowl and youâre good to go. Only unless you are feeling ravenous, you can definitely skip the add-ons like siew yuk, shrimps and an extra egg. One bowl is really all you need for a good nightâs sleep. Add-ons are also costly. The bowl pictured below has siew yuk, an extra egg, and prawnsâtotalling up to RM10.50 although arguably worth it if sharing with two people.
Having driven for half a day, explored the town area, and with all the endless eating, we called it an early night as we dozed off in our little container rooms.
Chowrasta Market
Kicking off the day with hawker food is always the way to go in Penang. Chowrasta Market is one of my favourite places to visit. It is imperative that everyone tries the fried beehoon mee opposite Kopitiam Bazaar, a personal favourite that has never changed after all these years. You can choose from a small packet for RM1.50 or the large one for RM2.50 (recommended). Top it up with loh bak slices if available and do not skip the crispy beancurd skin.
Walk into the kopitiam and you will find way more options to fill your bellies up. We arrived a little too late so they ran out of toast bread :( But thatâs perfectly fine because the wicked bowl of curry mee made up for it! It may not look like much but do not underestimated how surprisingly amazing it tasted. Still missing all the fried goodness? As you walk out of the kopitiam, there will be a stall selling nian gao, fried sweet potatoes and fried banana fritters as well.

Take your time to walk around the market. You can actually discover lots of fresh ingredients at very affordable prices. Coming across peculiar items like pipe cleaners, essential oils made out of rare ingredients, and stalls selling batteries and stationery, are not unheard of. With a Nissan Almera from GoCar, there was plenty of boot space for groceries to bring back fresh anyway so there was no worrying about carrying too many things around.
Lavish Fusion Bakery

The morning went by quickly and we checked out from The Container Hotel at 12pm. Donât forget to collect your RM50 refundable deposit for the key card. In the event that you do forget, contact the hotel and they will find a way to refund you. Apparently bank transfers are possible. How efficient!

Lavish Fusion Bakery was just around the corner from the hotel and from the looks of its entrance, we HAD to check it out. Launched just three weeks before we arrived, the place was an absolutely gorgeous bakery and cafe where the florist next door and plant wall gives the entire place natureâs touch, making the dining experience so much more pleasant. Pastries are their forte so do not skip anything on the display especially if they have the word âcroissantâ in it. Have a go at the jumbo sausage pastry as well (RM5.50) for a cheesy and oh-so-tasty treat. Weâre not so sure if they will be open this Chinese New Year but I would personally love to visit this beautiful place again. Highly recommend all travelers to drop by even though they do not serve local cuisine.

Something else to try: Cronut ice cream with salted egg or durian flavour.

Rojak Lok Lok
Before officially leaving Penang Island, we dropped by the rojak lok lok stall in Farlim for something refreshing. This stall is basically serves deconstructed rojak on sticks â perfect for people who love to eat rojak but are picky about certain ingredients. An average human being can easily consume 10-15 sticks of fruits or sides at a go. The rojak sauces (spicy and non-spicy) are both somehow very addictive.
Donât miss out on: Fried wantan skins and fresh fruits.

Back to Kuala Lumpur
We made our way back to KL immediately after visiting Lavish Fusion Bakery. Our Ipoh pitstop was a relatively short one because we wanted to make it back home before the peak hour. Coffee breaks are always a good idea, so we had takeaways from Nam Heong and Sin Yoon Loong kopitiams (coffee shops) which were both contrasting in terms of price, portion and flavour.

Ending your session with GoCar
Once you reach the hub where you picked up your GoCar from initially, immediately note down the number of bars left on the fuel tank and pack up your belongings. You are required to take the two necessary shots of the car before ending the session.
Pro tip: Book your Grab car before ending the session and wait in the car for it to arrive. As soon as it is a few minutes away, proceed to following the rest of the instructions on the application.

Be sure to check every nook and cranny for any of your belongings before placing the car keys into the same safe you took it out from at the start of your trip. A new pincode will be given to you as you end the session. After youâre done, the car will lock itself within a minute after you fully complete the session.
If I could summarise my GoCar experience in one word, that word would be âconvenienceâ which is pretty much what GoCar is from the point of view of a returning user. Thank you for the opportunity, GoCar. We look forward to using your services once again!

#GoCarInvades: Pudu, Kuala Lumpur
If youâve been following our previous posts, youâll realise itâs a lot about weekend getaways or our picks on our favourite eateries. In this segment, weâll do things slightly different where we feature three places in the same locality and youâll see what we love about them.
GoCar Pickup Location Highlight: The Robertson (Sales Gallery)
Where:Â No.119, Jalan Pudu, 55100, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Weâre really fortunate to have met nice partners along the way as we grow, and one of them is Gamuda Land that was ever supportive of our car sharing initiative. If you have picked up a GoCar from Gamuda Landâs The Robertson show gallery and you may need to return it late at night, the parking premises are monitored by the security guards on duty.
The project, is a 3-acre hybrid of a residential property with retail outlets. Easy access to any part of the city centre and public transportation â a bus terminal 10 minutes down Jalan Pudu and a bus stop right in front of Swiss Garden Hotel. Weâre really excited to be part of The Robertson until its completion as weâre already in service.
VCRÂ
Where:Â 2, Jalan Galloway, Bukit Bintang, 50150 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territories Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Walking along the road adjacent to Jalan Pudu, itâs impossible to miss the matte black, stuck-in-the-40s kind of house sitting at the corner of the row of houses on Jalan Galloway, and known to many as VCR.
Whether youâre here for a morning takeaway or a late night cuppa joe, their business hours are from 0830 to 2300 daily.

If you are picking up your GoCar, you can always park your car at The Robertson sales gallery and take a 5-minute walk to get your dose of caffeine. Note that side parking isnât available along Jalan Galloway and parking lots along Jalan Sin Chew Kee (behind VCR) are very limited.

Knock yourself out with their extensive all-day and brunch menu.

Light bites and pastries are available all day.

The indoor seatings and setting in VCR is absolute cozy, making it great for spending the afternoon doing work or just engaging in conversations. On cooler days, the outdoor seatings are great for pictures or to enjoy the breeze.

We tried their Lemon Curd Cheesecake and Black Velvet. At first, we were skeptical about the Lemon Curd Cheesecake when browsing through the selection of pastries but now, it has become one of our favourites.

We tried their Lemon Curd Cheesecake and Black Velvet. The Black Velvet appealed to us because it is somewhat new and usually red velvet cakes are the common ones found in bakeries and cafes. Taste wise, it would be identical to the red velvet but richer in chocolate, and itâs great for sharing because itâs a generous slice. We were impressed with the solid and perfectly moist texture of the Black Velvet. For only RM12 per cake, we think itâs a must try!
And as for coffee, the barista has done well striking the balance of our latte being not too milky or too intense. The full bodied flavour will definitely satisfy all your caffeine needs. RM11 may have passed the standard price mark but we still think itâs pretty decent for the quality you get.

Whether you are seated indoors or outside at their rooftop garden, VCR is a really nice place to unwind or to get some work done. The outdoor seating area is definitely our favourite spot.
Sekeping Sin Chew KeeÂ
Sekeping Sin Chew Kee is one of the properties from the Sekeping series and it is designed by our homegrown renowned architect, Mr Ng Sek San. The mantra of simplicity is reflected in his designs at all the Sekeping locations, including Sekeping Sin Chew Kee. What we admire about Mr Sek Sanâs work is that his concepts of keeping things simple, sustainable and restoring the old to be functional again are not far from ours. At GoCar, we keep things simple for our members and while we act upon our vision of sustainability, GoCarâs car sharing initiative is working towards the aim of reducing car ownerships over the coming years by adding more GoCar locations within Klang Valley and across Malaysia.

If you are a traveller or a visitor to Kuala Lumpur, Â this place is a boutique accommodation with a bar separately opened by the BIG Group at the ground floor that opens in the evening. It's a spacious lodging that can fit up to 8 people if you are travelling in a group, making it significantly cheaper than staying in hotels as you have the option to rent the entire floor for only RM800 per night with 2 double beds and 4 single beds. If you just need a room, you can book one for RM250 that fits 4. Tip: they are very likely to be fully booked on weekends, so make your reservation in advance through their website at sekeping.com/sck
If you're planning to host an event, you can consider this place as your venue. Simply email the folks from Sekeping at [email protected] with the subject line "Event booking for Sekeping Sin Chew Kee". They are also reachable at their general hotline +60 17 207 5977 from 0800 to 1900 (Monday to Saturday) for phone bookings.

Fancy a drink in the evening? Barlai is the bar right below Sekeping Sin Chew Kee. Weâve not gotten a chance to drop by at Barlai before but for if you had, leave suggestions on what to look out for when we are there!

#GoCarTravels: Cameron Highlands, Pahang
In recent years, Cameron Highlands has grown in popularity as one of the top travel destinations in Malaysia for locals and tourists alike. Now that the school holiday is here and if you have annual leave left to clear, perhaps itâs time for one last weekend getaway before 2016 ends with your family or some friends!Â
Below, weâll list down why Cameron Highlands should be your next travel destination to break away the cityscape for a cooler climate and soothing, green landscape.Â
Traffic has always been every driverâs concern in general. We recommend that you begin your journey early or arrange your trip on weekdays this school holiday season. It took us almost 3 hours to arrive at Cameron Highlands but if you can appreciate the greens around you along the way, it wouldnât feel too long of a drive.Â
At halfway, you will come across a waterfall area known as Lata Iskandar with several stalls along the roadside. If you intend to stop for a short break here, please be mindful to pull over and park considerately as the winding roads are slightly narrow, posing safety hazard to other motorists if done otherwise.
Lata Iskandar Waterfall

This pit stop is a perfect place to take a quick picture and rest. Get out of the car to stretch your legs, take in the fresh highlands air, and say goodbye to the humidity of the city! Â Along the stalls, youâll be able to get souvenirs such as T-shirts, keychains and more. If you also pay enough attention, you may find this uncommon fruit being sold called tampoi. Usually, this fruit is only found in the rural areas of Borneo (East Malaysia) and Cameron Highlands. Taste wise, the tampoi almost resembles the mangosteen, but the flesh of the tampoi is much smaller.

Do give it a try
Not too long later, we arrived at Ringlet, a humble agriculture hub. Farmers roam around town in their pickup trucks, senior citizens socialise at their favourite local coffee shop, a lady at her roadside stall displaying her fresh-off-the-wok goreng (fried) snacks â this is pretty much a day to day occurrence in slow-going Ringlet. Once you arrived at this point, you have travelled to a point 1,200m above sea level and itâs time to fuel your car up or grab a quick bite. If youâre an early riser and started your journey before sunrise, you might still be able to walk along the farmerâs morning market here.
Ringlet

Fresh vegetables up for grabs!

Cameron Highlands was once where those free-spirited Landys (Land Rovers) roam around, but now theyâre pretty much replaced with trusty Toyota trucks.
Famished, we found this rather peculiar looking hut and to our surprise, itâs a really cool retro-looking classic kopitiam (local coffee shop). This kopitiam named after its late owner, Ng Siew Yee is now manned and managed by Mr Hun, a really laid back and friendly chap. This shop once risked being demolished to pave way for new development works but today, it is still standing strong to serve the local community at Ringlet.
Ng Siew Yee Kopitiam, Ringlet

Usually, prawn noodles are served in spicy broth but if youâre keen to try out dry prawn noodles, they do serve it here. You can also opt for the typical kopitiam breakfast of fluffy steamed bread with kaya (coconut jam) and butter.

Where: Beside Choong Ching Yan Kurnia Insurance Agency (opposite the row of shops), Ringlet, Cameron Highlands
Mossy Forrest, Brinchang
Satisfied with our quick meal, we continued our journey to the famous Mossy Forest. Driving up would be slightly tough and tricky with more narrow, winding roads. Keep an eye out for some parts of the rocky roads and potholes. Ample of parking lots are available and free here. Be mindful to not leave your personal belongings in the car since the parking premises is unguarded.Â
There are a few tours of the forest provided by Eco Cameron (http://www.ecocameron.com/) where departure to Mossy Forest starts as early as 0845. For only RM50 per adult or RM35 per child, you will be able to experience the most out of Mossy Forest.

Avid hikers, this is your place. If youâve got 3 to 4 hours to spare, the lookout points from Gunung Brinchang overlooking the patch of highland greens are so breathtaking youâd have to see it for yourself.Â

Where: Gunung Brinchang, Cameron Highlands (4°31'27.2"N 101°22'54.7"E)
If you realised the patches of greens on the way up to Mossy Forest, you would have already know what it is â tea leaves! Cameron Highlands is famous for producing tea and itâs evident as you will find a wide range of BOH Tea on the shelves in major supermarkets within Malaysia. There are four main tea plantations in Cameron Highlands, which are BOH Tea Plantation, BOH Sungai Palas Tea Plantation, Cameron Valley Tea Plantation and Bharat Tea Plantation. We chose the Sungai Palas plantation because it was on the way down from Gunung Brinchang and, more importantly, it has a more spectacular view!

Tea leaf!
You can walk along the rows of tea leaves in the plantation but be careful if the terrain is wet as it can get slippery, especially with the rainy season weâre experiencing lately. The opening hours of the Sungai Palas plantation are between 0900 to 1630, and the best time to visit will be around mid morning for nice photos.

Where: BOH Sungai Palas Tea Plantation, 39100 Brinchang, Cameron Highlands (GPS: 4.521016, 101.401327)
Jim Thompson Tea Room @ Cameron Highlands Resort
Now that weâve seen where tea leaves come from, it is customary to have afternoon tea in a tea room. After all, the saying goes âwhen in Rome do what the Romans doâ. Being a popular spot for tea among both locals and tourists, Cameron Highlands Resortâs Jim Thompson Tea Room has outdone themselves with really friendly and helpful service and modest pricing for their afternoon tea sets, serving between 1500 to 1800 daily.

Housed in a colonial building, the details and settings of this place is definitely picture-worthy.

For RM45 per person or RM80 for two people, youâll get a tower of savoury bites â tuna, eggs and cress, smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches, desserts, scones and an entire afternoon of relaxation.
Where:Â Cameron Highlands Resort, By The Golf Course, 39000 Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands.
GoCar Exclusive: Ringlet Farm Visit
After the scrumptious tea and bites, we made our way back downhill to Ringlet. We met some really friendly locals and managed to have a casual chat with them. To our surprise, a local farmer offered to show us around the farms he works at. We couldnât contain our excitement and decline such exclusive invitation, so we hopped onto the back of his pickup truck and tagged along.

It was an eye opening experience and, of course, weâve never seen harvested crops any fresher than the ones here at the local farm. These crops, including of hydroponic and root vegetables, were later supplied in bulk to the restaurants or farmerâs markets in Cameron Highlands itself or brought down to the city.Â
If youâre keen to visit a farm, perhaps you could ask Mr Hun from the kopitiam earlier and he may be able to introduce you to some of the local farmers who frequents his coffee shop at tea time.
Cameron Highlandâs Roadside Markets and Shops
If you missed the farmerâs market in the morning, keep a lookout for the roadside shops if youâre looking to shop for fresh vegetables, fruits or cactus. For tips on how to take care of your plants, you can rely on the shopkeepers to share the best pointers with you.

Highlands Steamboat Restaurant (Non-Halal)
To end the day, we visited Highland Steamboat Restaurant, a rather underrated go-to steamboat restaurant â it is the best meal to have in a cold weather! Here, they offer a few types of soup such as tom yam, clear broth and pepper soup to cook your fresh seafood or meat. One thing we love about this place is that the noodles, eggs and vegetables are free of charge (bottomless and refillable) and the soup is adequately flavourful.Â

This place can be slightly crowded at dinner time so do drop by earlier if you can! They are open from 1100 to 2100.
Where: 26, Jalan Besar Brinchang, 39100, Cameron Highlands
Sounds like a plan? Start planning for your next trip to Cameron Highlands now that you can take GoCar for only RM89 on the first day throughout December using the promo code âGOCARCHRISTMASâ.Â
If thereâs anything we could add on to the list, leave us a comment below!

#GoCarEats: The Midnight Baker, SENI Montâ Kiara
Tucked in the business centre of the condominium SENI Montâ Kiara, this coffee shop is no stranger to its residents. Though being small in size, The Midnight Baker has an extensive selection of pastries and baked goods, and not to mention a list of no-fuss lunch menu! If youâre up for coffee, Neil the in-house barista will not disappoint.

In this visit, weâve managed to savour some of their goodies and a good olâ flat white.

We love how their brownies are served after being slightly heated up in the oven. The brownies struck the balance of its sweetness and chocolatey flavour. Whatâs also worth mentioning is how the texture of the brownie is absolutely lovely.

For those who arenât much of a brownie person, their cookies are one of our favourites as well - generous with the chocolate chips and slightly soft in texture. One of the things we love about The Midnight Baker is how they keep the sugar level of their sweets under control (your body would be grateful).

Caffeine bugs rejoice! Neil is all no-nonsense when it comes to coffee, and rest assured that your coffee is crafted with heart and soul. Whether it is a flat white or a foamy cappuccino, to have or take away, your caffeine needs will be fixed.

âHi Neil!â

Address: LG 1-3, SENI Montâ Kiara, Jalan Changkat Duta Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Friday (07:00 PM to 05:00 PM), Saturday to Sunday (08:00 AM to 05:00 PM)
If youâre picking up your GoCar at the SENI Montâ Kiara hub or residing around the neighbourhood, holler at the folks here at The Midnight Baker and give their savoury pastries a go!Â
Head over to our website to find out more on how to use GoCar. Stay tuned for more places we will be introducing, and feel free to suggest places we should visit and try out soon!
