One thing they don’t teach you about forgiveness is learning. Learning your lesson is the end goal of forgiveness. That saying “forgive and forget” is either easy or hard to do based on the person, but truthfully that doesn’t matter. You have to do the internal work in both cases in order to learn. When you learn that forgiveness isn’t about making the other person feel better, but allowing you to release the pain/trauma inflicted onto you, that’s when it becomes easier. Forgiving someone is letting go of what they did to you because it doesn’t negate or serve who you are. Forgetting is when you’ve learned and can actually say you have grown from those situations. So “learn, forgive, and then forget”.
