“Since we’re doing it to figure out stuff, we should go somewhere we can talk a lot. So a movie would probably be bad.”

So many expectations already, and we haven’t even planned out our first date yet .  .  .  ❝ R- right. I’ll– I’ll see what I can do. Eh, y- you wouldn’t happen to have anything in mind for a date, would you? ❞

“Even though it’s kinda embarrassing, this is my first date too. So I’m putting my trust in ya, Kano! You better make it good.”

Careful, Seto. You might make him choke.

❝ Y- y- yeah– !  O- okay, let’s go out– ! ❞

It’s too late to back down now. Besides, he doesn’t really want to.

“Let’s do it!”

❝ A- ah  .  .  .  Is that so? ❞

He wasn’t really expecting an answer to that (he was asking himself more so than anything), but somehow getting that single, absentminded inquiry helped him think, if not help to settle his wavering visage. ❝ Then– would you be interested in something like that, Seto? Eh, I mean, would you  .  .  .  l- like to go out with me  .  .  . ? T- to figure out if we know what we’re doing about, eh, all this? ❞

“Like I said, it’d be fun! Plus, I dunno, we could figure out if we really, uh... know what we’re doing with all this stuff.”

He was being vague again, but he really did believe that talking it over would solve some of the more complicated feelings he was having about this whole situation.

He should have expected this sort of answer, coming from Seto– except, of course, he didn’t, leaving him utterly dumfounded for several seconds at a time until he remembered how to work his jaw and how to vocalize his words again, his tongue dry as sandpaper and chest tight as he swallowed hard and cleared the silence with the sound of his voice. 

❝ R- really? Eh, not that– not that I’m against it, but you really wouldn’t mind trying something like that? ❞

He has to think about it for a second, turning it over in his head. He’s embarrassed, of course, but if he’s honest...

“Yeah! I think that would be fun, actually.”

For once, Kano lets a brief vulnerability slip through– a weak laugh– before speaking up, sheepishly, ❝ Eheh  .  .  .  Well, I mean, hypothetically speaking– If we could do it over .  .  . ❞ 

It’s no use finishing the thought (Seto’s already done that for him), so he might as well carry out his next set of words, lest his facade fall any further. ❝ ‘Guess you have a point there. But then  .  .  .  If we could do it over, something like a date would be a good way to start things out  .  .  .  ? If I were– If I were to ask you out on a date, you’d agree? ❞

“Eh? That’s, uh... don’t you think that ship has sorta sailed?” Since they already kissed once, and all.  But to answer honestly... “It seems kinda fast for it to happen like that... don’t first kisses usually come after dates or something? After the you say you like each other ‘n all...”

❝ Right, right! ❞ Be prepared, Seto. If you think you jumped the gun on that one, imagine the bullet you’ll have to dodge after this. ❝ It looks like we’re both on the same page. So, let’s get started then, shall we?

❝ What would be Seto’s ideal first kiss? ❞

Okay, maybe he jumped the gun on that a little.  “Ah, right.  Talking is good.  We should definitely talk, don’t ya think?”

❝ Of course, we’d talk about it first~! ❞ he chirped, completely unabashed by Seto’s alarm. ❝ I wasn’t going to do anything until we did~ I mean, if you’d rather me jump on you with a kiss right now, I’d be more than happy to oblige, but I think it’d be best if we discussed it first, don’t you think? ❞

“Eh no wait, we should talk about this first--”

And as usual, Seto falls for Kano’s lies hook line and sinker. This kid’s too gullible for his own good.

Looks can certainly be deceiving, can’t they? Truly, he really isn’t as shameless about all this as he makes himself out to be– ❝ Not at all~ ❞ 

– but Seto didn’t need to know that, right?

❝ As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t mind doing that sort of thing again– without tongue, of course, unless you’d rather overstep that boundary again~? ❞

“I, uh... how can ya be so calm about it, anyway? Isn’t it embarrassing for you too?” Surely Kano isn’t as shameless as he seems. 

❝ Why didn’t you say so in the first place~? ❞ It seemed sort of silly now– after all, it’s not like either of them anticipated what the other would do. ❝ We could have taken things slower. I wouldn’t have minded.

❝ Although, I can’t help but feel guilty for lending a hand in that– getting carried away and all. ❞

“Well... ah... that’s kinda what I mean about getting carried away.” He knows he started it. he knows this is his fault.

Oh. Now it was all starting to make sense. Get with the program Kano. ❝ E- eh?! What do you think I think– ?! I’ve never said anything about first kisses having to involve tongue. I figured they started out slower than what we did, but I wasn’t going to say anything if you weren’t. I thought that’s what you wanted to do for a first kiss, even if that’s completely out of the norm. ❞

“That’s not the sort of thing you’re supposed t’ do for your first kiss!” Geez, Kano, get with the picture.

❝ Less tongue? ❞ He’s catching on now; slowly but surely. sorry seto. ❝ I didn’t realize we did that much tongue– ❞ But then, if he’s mentioning it, we must have done more tongue than I thought  .  .  .

❝ Aah. Then kissing without tongue would be better? For a first time, I mean. ❞

“Maybe with less. Tongue.  Right off the bat.” He’s not making much sense anymore. Listen Kano, he’s flustered.

Now was probably a bad time to be puzzled about implied meanings. ❝ How else would you have said it then? ❞

What a horrible, horrible time to be an honest person. “Ah! Well, that’s not really it either... I just wouldn’ta said in that sort of way...”

❝ Eh  .  .  .  ? ❞ A feigned look of surprise fell over his cat-like features. ❝ If that’s the case, then does that mean you didn’t really mean anything you said or did? ❞ Part of the reason he asked was to see Seto’s reaction, another being his genuine curiosity.

“C-c’mon! I got kinda carried away and said some really weird stuff!” Of course, Kano was embarrassing too, but Seto didn’t seem to be focused on that fact right now.

Too bad he plans to hold this high over Seto’s head. ❝ Of course, I’m not saying you can’t! I was merely making an observation, that’s all. The things you said back then were pretty unforgettable, and I’d be lying if I said that particular scene wasn’t still on my mind; it’s hard to forget something like that, y’know. ❞

“Y-you’re the one who keeps bringin’ it up! Can’t I just be concerned or something?”  He’s trying to block out the very embarrassing things he said bck then.

❝ Oh, my~! That’s awfully sweet for someone that hasn’t come looking for a kiss. Are you sure you only came to check on me? ❞
