a historical transman:"despite being born as a woman, i changed my name since my youth, dressed as a man of my time, refered to myself with he/him pronounce and would literally fight anyone who ever dared to question my manhood with violence and all that i did through most of my life which lasted for decades until my very last breath. also please dont inspect my corpse. thanks."

It is genuinely fascinating how many feminist cis women, including those who are on paper openly supportive of trans people, struggle to actually think about trans men as a concept.
A few months ago I ended up having a very long talk with a friend of a friend. She told me that she'd never really spoken to a trans man before, the only trans people she knew were trans women. There was a point, after the third time I reminded her that I was a man, that she just sorta of slotted me into her mental box of "man", and I could tell that happened because after that point she started trying to explain things to me as if I was a cis man.
I categorically do not "pass" and likely never will. I'm very short, my hips are prominent because I'm fat, I keep my hair long, charitably I could be said to have a baby face, I have D-cups and cannot bind due to spinal problems. To the majority of cis people I do not "look like a man".
But for the rest of the conversation I had with this friend of a friend I had to keep reminding her of how other people are going to view me, because there was no room in her mental idea of "man" for a man who is not treated as one. This was not malicious on her part, she was very nice to me, and I believe her when she says she wants to support trans people. I do not think she was lying when she told me how horrified she was to learn about how her trans woman friends were treated.
She said she was envious of me going out alone and how I need to understand that's a facet of male privilege and I asked her to look at me and explain why I'd be any safer. She was shocked to learn that I've been catcalled, been assaulted, that I regularly get spoken down to by cis men, shocked to learn I don't have a single transmasc friend who hasn't. She couldn't understand that I'm going to be treated the same by misogynists as any fat cis woman who doesn't wear makeup. There was no room in her feminism for trans men, because there was no room in her understanding of gender for men who are not cis.
We ended up talking about politics. She told me she was terrified of abortion being banned, and that this would never be a threat if men could get pregnant.

I feel like some wanna-be punks could use to take a page out of the Bible and realize that yes, giving up things in the name of your morals is SUPPOSED to be hard sometimes. Yes it’s hard to let go of getting things cheap for a good price when you’re poor like Temu and Shein. Yes it’s hard to give up “the series that kept you alive as a child” or whatever because it’s fucking problematic. But if you can’t even do those like basic ass things how exactly are you going to put others first when it really comes down to it? Only when it’s easy and convenient for you? Only when it suits you? Conditionally?

some of yall need to understand that "my body, my choice" also applies to:
addicts in active addiction with no intention of quitting
phys disabled people who deny medical treatment
neurodivergent people who deny psychiatric treatment (yes, including schizophrenic people and people with personality disorders)
trans people who want or don't want to medically transition (yes, including trans masc lesbians with top surgery and trans women without bottom surgery, yall are so weird to them wtf)
and if you can't understand that, then you don't get to use the phrase

Reminder that it's OK to dislike someone for petty, low-stakes reasons and avoid being around them even if there's nothing genuinely wrong with their character. And in fact the kindest thing to do in this situation is just to own that you find their vibe irritating and NOT spin up a narrative where you HAD to distance yourself from them because they were Toxic.

still blows my mind that people believe this. guys addicts are like. your favorite teacher. the doctor who saved your life. that cousin your parents like more than you. the thirteen year old kid who petsits your cat. they're people living lives around you.
istg some of yall think addicts are some kind of evil zombie people who only exist on city streets and want to kill you and can't form coherent thoughts because they're entirely obsessed with Drug. you sound like a cop.

the sheer amount of dumb shit I did as a teenager that would've gotten my ass killed if I was in a horror movie is insane. sorry I don't walk around like "I should prop this door open behind me in case an evil poltergeist traps me in this abandoned basement" after having six white claws
people who complain about horror movie character behavior drive me up the wall because like. if you want to watch people make good decisions pick something else. this is a horror movie.

too many people genuinely believe it's impossible for a minor to sexually harass an adult but every time anyone tries to have that conversation it inevitably gets overtaken by old men claiming their pedo behavior is the fault of teen girls wearing crop tops

The way everyone is so quick to turn any mention of depiction of feet in art into a fetish joke is so annoyingggg. What about bare feet as humility, reverence, vulnerability, servitude, youth, et cetera. Nobody's discussing this anymore because of Big foot fetish joke. Not trying to create a dichotomy either btw obviously art inspired by fetish holds equal merit to all other art and can still be analyzed from different perspectives. Just pointing out a prevalent online trend. Also just in general I can think of grosser parts of the body people are getting off to

listen to me, really. I am holding your two hands tenderly in mine. being part of a privileged group and benefitting from systemic exploitation without meaning to is not the same thing as being an inherently trash person who makes the world worse by living it in. that's not what that means. I'm telling you this for two reasons, 1) so you can chill the fuck out and be at peace with yourself without feeling like you're draining the universe of value, and 2) so you don't go onto oppressed people's posts about systemic privilege and exploitation and react like they've just told you that you, personally, should not exist because you're a man who lives within the vicinity of a supermarket that sells chiquita bananas. you're just gonna have to put some trust into your own brain and hold on to both the ideas that you're on one of the dominant sides of a set of global scales of injustice and that you don't have to shrivel out of existence about it. it can be difficult to reconcile those ideas at first, but it's completely possible and worth doing. if you don't, then you start constructing a worldview where you believe that either you have a civic duty to self destruct or you start vehemently denying that these systems of oppression exist, both of which are Bad and Not Good. peace and love x
