A new policy that allows former international students to obtain a new one-time open work permit if theirs is about to expire takes effect from January 29th, 2021.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have opened their doors to accept applications submitted by international students already in Canada. This category of students is those who wish to obtain a new open work permit if their current PGWP is expired or about to expire.
The online application period is open until July 27, 2021. The new Open Work Permit has a validity period of 18 months. This action will now allow former international students to continue their stay in Canada and look for employment opportunities.
Following is the list of criteria required to be met, if any international student desires to apply for the New Open Work Permit.
The PGWP in hand should have expired on or after January 30, 2020, or a PGWP that expires in 4 months or less from the date of application.

The student should have a valid temporary status or be applying to restore his/her status.
