Ace facing the Manticore. Perhaps a re-draw from a work I did about 6 months ago featuring the same subject. They are perhaps my fav Skyscale skins. <3 Sponsored by ArenaNet

Question for the sweet and adorable Ithikk: #3 - How and why did they join in the first place? #5 - How do they feel about the morally questionable goings on in the Inquest
Thank you for the ask!
How did Ithikk end up in the inquest? It's true that, on first glance, the inquest is not the kind of place for someone like Ithikk. What could the inquest bring him so he decided to stop his college studies so close to the end?
In that time, things were uncertain, certainly even more than before. Huge changes in the world occurred, and multiple elder dragons, unstoppable strength of destruction, started threatening everything. Ithikk saw it at his scale, and he was aware of all the deadly challenges tyrians had to face. And if they failed, he knew nothing would remain. The land he loved, the ecosystem that fascinated him, the creatures that were all his life, none of this would survive. And he is terrified of this.
But to him, actions taken to fight against these threats were not enough. To be up to the task, people had to do more. And himself, he had to do more. And it's in this context he met the right -or wrong, depending on which side you place yourself- persons. Inquest recruiters are quite good at their job.
But know, how does he feel about this? The things the inquest are doing?
Ithikk hates that. He joined because the inquest was the only place people would accept to make sacrifice to reach their objectives. But too often, it's not "sacrifices" but purely expression of unrestrained lust for violence, power drunk sadism and pointless ego feeding. Ithikk could accept hurting one person to save one hundred, but he cannot understand what some are doing in the name of science. To him, they're leeches, and there are too many.
Of course, he tries to not express his feelings publicly, that's too dangerous, he just stays quiet. But he does not accept it.

Meet Synthesist Vreizz the Specter! Probably best known these days for being a musician (I've described them as "the Porter Robinson of Asura" & I think that's still true; they use a holokeyboard a lot of the time) and putting out one album a year every year for some time, Vreizz was actually an Inquest scientist working at the Thaumanova Reactor who had an unfortunate realization of man, maybe all the inhumane experimentation and rampant cruelty and thievery and murder isn't cool, tendered their resignation with plans to go focus solely on their music career...
...and immediately had to run for their fucking life through the Reactor's corridors, because their supervisor decided YOU? MORALITY? WHISTLEBLOWING? NO. DISGUSTING. I'M REFUSING YOUR RESIGNATION. DIE, BITCH and came after them with intent to kill. And it almost worked!! Except, uh, for the tiny detail that this was the exact moment the Reactor went critical and exploded, tearing rifts in spacetime, throwing their half-dead body into the depths of the Mists, where...
...they're not exactly sure what happened. They're pretty sure they're Vreizz, but, you know, there's a non-zero chance they're a Mists-being that's taken on the memory, personality, and skills of the original Vreizz, with the original being long dead. They have blood! Is it theirs? Couldn't tell you. It doesn't really bother them, they're a cheerful trickster-type person, but it does bother some people.
When not performing &/or composing they spend most of their time in the Mists, so they have weirdly comprehensive knowledge of Mists business (fuckin' wizards mucking around in there. quit it, you sons of bitches.) and... maybe not so much knowledge of Tyrian current events. ?????? What do you mean Cantha's open to the outside world. When'd that happen.
These days they've taken to just showing up out of thin air to say mysterious, incomprehensible shit to the Commander and then vanishing as soon as her back is turned. Heehee. :3c

For Jaanos : 3. How and why did they join in the first place? 4. What would the final straw be to convince them to (attempt to) leave? Euphix : 5. How do they feel about the morally questionable things going on in the Inquest?
For Jaanos: #3: It was a direct pipeline from the Arcane Eye to the Inquest. He in fact had a couple of colleagues that happened to already be in the Inquest and considering all of the connections he had amassed from his years in the Eye, the professional transition was pretty smooth. He worked his way up the megakrewe fairly quick because of his ambition and charisma so by the time he became a Director he was pretty entrenched. The why? Even in the Eye he utilized his specialties in neurology and genetics to make effective forms of interrogation and also more reliable sleeper agents (a very high security project that spanned some years, most of his fellow researchers that were part of this operation went into hiding or changed identities). But he always did it with the belief that he was doing this to minimize civilian casualties and strife when trying to combat threats. This sort of thinking carried over when he became Inquest. He was interested in the megakrewe's vast network and resources to realize his own passions of "tapping into the untapped potential of all sentients." As well as trying to find cures for chronic ailments and disabilities. But of course over time his ambition and ideas have gotten considerably darker and more convoluted. #4: The final straw for him would only be due to wanting to go independent. As a Director he has some freedom with his projects and IPs but still, due to the Inquest's social and professional structure he occasionally has to work around contracts, inspections and sometimes has to get specific requests green-lit first. As it stands right now he's in a good position, but he has been in fact building up assets elsewhere in case this becomes a favorable option. For Euphix:
#5: Euphix functions first and foremost in the belief that what he does and the missions he carries out are for the good of the collective and in extension, the good of his people in general. Though, despite being an absolutely terrifying opponent who does not hesitate to exterminate an enemy on sight if they get in the way of the success of his mission, Euphix is not cruel for cruelty's sake. He does not believe in collateral damage, is not motivated by things like spite, he has no axe to grind and nothing to prove, he cares about results. He has been known to turn on or simply leave colleagues that exhibit higher-than-average levels of sadism or destructive behaviors in a mission or professional setting, especially if this jeopardizes said mission's success or compromises their effectiveness as a unit. You could say Euphix's high standards of conduct and precision partly quantifies his moral code.

For the Inquest ask game! For Zobrex, #4 What would the final straw that would convince them to (attempt to) leave? and #11 What are/were their long-term goals in regards to being a part of the Inquest? Becoming an Overseer? Performing an otherwise banned experiment? Or just surviving?
And for Door, #6 What would they be doing if they had never joined?
X3c Thank you for sending me some asks! Zobrex would leave if the Inquest interfered with his relationship with Quinn. If they attempted to manipulate or harm her in any way, including but not restricted to stealing from or damaging her library, there would be hell to pay. He's dedicated his life to the Inquest, if they attempted to rob him of anything he's earned or worked for, all bets are off. His long term goals within the Inquest would be perhaps to move to head of security. He has some ideas. The Inquest just are not safe enough. He has seen atrocities far beyond what people believe the Inquest are guilty of, perpetrated against weaponless interns, and pencil pushing scientists. What indeed would Mister Door be doing with himself, if he had never joined the employ of Director Jaanos? Mister Door enjoys hurting people, sometimes if they ask nicely, but mostly if they beg him not to. He would likely still be doing mercenary work but he'd definitely be a little less disciplined in his work. He'd get greedy and sloppy and likely end up dead himself, or in jail.
