the locked tomb series asks big questions, like would you sacrifice the memory of those you loved to not have to live with your grief? and what if god was a tumblr user?

best part of the locked tomb is if it was ANY other story naberius would be the number one guy. he’s a prince and somehow also a bodyguard and he’s a gifted fighter and devoted to the princesses and he has swoopy hair and dreamy eyes and no one gives a shit, because they’re all married/gay/focused on the actual plot. naberius is the lost love interest from a shitty ya fantasy novel that culminates in a love triangle between him, corona, and silas. this man is harry styles in a room full of lesbians

Funny tlt thing I've noticed is that while people seem to have latched onto [Necromancer's name] [Cavalier's name] for the full name of Lyctors for some characters (in canon you have Cytherea Loveday and Ianthe Naberius, in fandom you get Mercymorn Cristabel), you never hear "Gideon Pyrrha" or "Harrowhark Gideon." Probably because Pyrrha and Gideon are characters we actually know and it feels weird to use their names that way, but that makes it even funnier that "Ianthe Naberius" is seen as acceptable. Goodbye white boy

actually we don't talk enough about kiriona killing crux and how heartbreaking that scene it is. imagine growing up being beaten and kicked and kept prisoner and being locked away and told that you are nothing if not a big mistake. now imagine then finding out that it is just untrue. not because you have found your value as a person and bla bla bla but because it turns out that you're the child of like, the most important guy in the whole universe. you go back home and you finally, finally get to prove your abuser wrong! you did all of that to me and yet look! i'm actually so very important and i deserved to live amd you were wrong all along!
and yet that is not enough. you show to your abuser that they were wrong, like, you treated me like shit when i am a big deal, and they say, i don't care, that doesn't change anything. you are still something that deserved to get beaten and kicked and locked away. but, hey, since you're a big fucking deal, you get to kill this guy. you get to kill the man that has abused you all your life. you get to give the man that has been terrorizing you since childhood what he deserves. sweet revenge. it doesn't feel good. you are a big fucking deal and he is dead. you still were beaten and kicked and kept like prisoner. you still have been nothing if not a big mistake for much longer than you have been the child of the emperor.

can't stop thinking about tamsyn muir's choice to present her deep, morally and politically complex science fantasy world with a central web of magic, secrets and lies reaching back ten thousand years through the eyes of three characters who:
1. tune out and start thinking about hot women whenever the magic system or worldbuilding are being explained
2. experience hallucinations on a daily basis, have brain damage and are being deceived and misled by their peers, authority figures, themselves and God
3. don't know who they are, have spent their entire life in one place and are, on all levels but physical, six months old

How would you have asked Alecto the First to lie—how would you have persuaded that mad monster into even an unsophisticated con?

I will simply never understand people who say they don't like Nona or call the plot of Nona the Ninth uninteresting. I saw someone describe the book as "cold" and I've been turning that over in my head because?? did we read the same book?? Nona is about love and warmth and about finding those things in the coldest of places and knowing that when things are bleak and dark you will always have love to fall back on. Nona is the soul of a misused, abused and ancient planet who was never treated right, even by the people who claimed to love her, but she doesn't know that! she has endless, unlimited capacity for love!
she is perhaps the only character in the entire series who will never experience the horrors of love because her love is pure and uncomplicated and limitless.
Nona is the soul of a planet, and yet she is so human. She is so desperately human, she wants to live and love, and she is terrified of the idea that both could be taken from her. Alecto loves John but Nona loves everyone.
She is the soul of a planet who wanted nothing more than to love and be loved, and now for the first time in her vast and ancient life, she is a six-month-old who loves and is loved by people who didn't even know who she was! they took her in because she was in the body of their friend, and then when she was nona, they loved her for her, without forcing any of their demands or expectations onto her!
And she contrasts so beautifully with Harrow. Nona, who never knew who she was until right at the end, who didn't have access to her memories of those who used and abused and emptied her, is the opposite of Harrow, who is 200 dead children, who has always known she is 200 dead children.
Harrow and Alecto are chained in so many ways -- Harrow metaphorically, and Alecto physically. Harrow's body is the memory of 200 souls, and Alecto's body is a prison for the soul of the entire earth. Neither lives for themselves and neither is free. And yet Nona, who is both of them, is free. She is the love that couldn't be taken away.
And I could talk forever about the importance of the world that Nona exists in, and how crucial it is for the story that we see her friends and what their lives are like, and how important it is that the reader is confronted with the reality and the cost of John's empire. The book places so much emphasis on the value of these regular human lives, directly contrasting the first two books, in which impossibly ancient beings simply do not care about average humans.
Nona is six months old and she cares about everyone, and for the first time in the earth's ancient life, everyone cares about her, and doesn't expect anything in return for it.
God I love Nona so much.

I think there's something beautiful about the fact that "The Locked Tomb Trilogy" became "The Locked Tomb Series" because Tamsyn decided to dedicate a whole book to Nona. A whole book dedicated to the six months that Nona, Cam, Pal, and Pyrrha were a family. A book about how the love was there, and it doesn't matter how briefly it was there. It's over, it's finished, you can't take loved away.

Tamsyn Muir truly is something else for creating a world of widespread poverty, instability, and hunger where different cells of a galactic terrorist organization fight each other for power in a setting reminescent of a failed state as a bloody civil looms and a Melancholia-like supernatural entity hangs in the sky and enemy demi-gods threaten to invade and persecute the population AGAIN, and then telling the story through the eyes of a character who perceives barely any of this, cares about none of it, and whose only ambition in life is cuddling with her parental figures, avoiding breakfast, and keeping her place in a gang of schoolkids who fell straight out of a Stephen King novel.

something very important to understand about coronabeth tridentarius is that she's not Cool. she's hot, she's audacious, she's intoxicating, but she isn't Cool.
she likes the worst fucking puns in the entire world so much. she isn't good at comebacks. she's obsessively codependent with her creepy and wet twin sister. she has the fucking audacity to call someone else a nepo baby and think she made a point. she wants anyone who doesn't want her. she wants camilla to hug her and hold her the way camilla hugs and holds nona. she asks people's opinions about her and then gets upset if they say anything too honest. she wears such gaudy jewelry with everyday outfits that she bypasses "fancy" and wraps straight back around into "playing dress-up." she cried when her sister didn't kill and eat her. she's not good at pretending to be a necromancer, but her true love is the sword, but she's not particularly good at that either. she's down bad for judith fucking deuteros.
if everyone wasn't so distracted by how hot she is then the truth would be more obvious, and the truth is that coronabeth tridentarius is deeply lame (affectionate).
