⌇ kingdom (episode 2).

a/n: read the tweets from bottom to top! and there is spoilers about each episode on kingdom, so if you haven’t watched it fully, then go watch it asap!

when soo-young got a sudden text from the btob group chat she created (named ‘soo-young and the four idiots’) that eunkwang sent, asking for them to go to his apartment, she knew the results were to be announced today, so she hurried to the location

soo-young was the first one to arrive in eunkwang’s apartment to save him from the awkwardness of being surrounded by cameras all by himself, she got there earlier than planned, but she took the opportunity to help him organize the room a bit better

once the other three arrived, they quickly sat around the coffee table to see the results on the laptop, and every single one of them was genuinely surprised and happy to get third place

they didn’t waste time to start discussing how their next performance should be and what song should they use

the discussion didn’t take long as they liked the idea minhyuk suggested

the d-day finally arrived and soo-young was more than ready to be amazed by spectacular performances she knew she would see

and she was right, both tbz and ikon delivered the least she expected from them, greatness

soo-young rapped alongside peniel and harmonized with eunkwang, she was the only one with a white outfit, while the other 4 had darker outfits, which made some of the other groups question it

in the break, the camera turned to show soo-young and minhyuk, both taking their swords out of the scabbard while the image turned black and white. she did the sword dance with minhyuk, their characters showing that they have nothing to fear from their enemies

however, when minhyuk killed the last enemy, he didn’t notice that there was one last survivor that was planning to kill him while he was distracted, but before he could do so, his sword ended up slashing soo-young’s back, she sacrificed herself so minhyuk wouldn’t get the fatal wound

minhyuk quickly took care of the last enemy before holding soo-young as she fell to the ground, the camera panned down once she gave minhyuk her trinity knot necklace

the camera changed with peniel, changsub, and eunkwang surrounding a grave with a written ‘in the memories of a caring sister’, now the image is back on full color

minhyuk joined them to carefully place a single yellow lily on top of the gravestone, and soon after, soo-young appeared and held the flower, she stood in front of her own grave

the four men turned so their backs were facing the gravestone, the camera began surrounding them as all of the five started to harmonize together, and it was shown that each male member also had a trinity knot necklace, but minhyuk had two necklaces

and for the final climax, the high note harmonization with eunkwang, but what surprised the other groups was soo-young’s high note with her chest voice, which she has never done before

for the final scene, the five of them walked to the trees, as the four men faced the camera, soo-young sang the last line before turning to the side and staring at the flower on her hand with a wistful expression

“i’ll be honest, even before kingdom started, i was full of… certain insecurities, i actually still am, so i was nervous the whole time, i had to do two things i never did before: the sword dance and the high note with my chest voice. we all worked really hard to deliver a performance that people would enjoy.”

“i wanted the people to see that btob is more than a group that sings ballads, i wanted them to think ‘ah, so this is what btob can do’.”

⌇ kingdom (episode 1).

btob was the fourth group to enter

everyone was already surprised when soo-young (who belonged to another group, and not just any group, a girl group) was confirmed to go to kingdom with btob

but it was a whole another thing to actually see her there

soo-young was actually really nervous because unlike the other survival reality shows she went to, she wasn't going to fight for herself, she was going to fight for the group, so she was scared to mess up

she was so awestruck with the other groups as she observed the three groups in front of her while she sat between peniel and changsub.

she was especially happy to see ateez, she haven’t seen or chatted with any of them in a while, so she missed them

when the other four mentioned that they looked the most normal between the 4 groups, soo-young didn’t waste any time teasing them

soo-young: “but you guys know that you’re nowhere near normal, right?”

in which they of course agreed with her

she laughed loudly when changsub mentioned the age difference between the three oldest with skz’s maknae

everyone was whipped for soo-young, mentioning how pretty she looked with her outfit, as they should be doing

“hey, mr. chan!”

that was the moment when soo-young regretted the decisions that let her join the group

the pain soo-young was feeling was very visible on her face while she watched eunkwang interacting with chan in english, with her butting in once in a while to translate to the leader

soo-young: “please, someone, save me from this.”

sf9 came in right after and soo-young couldn’t help but be fascinated with them, but you can’t blame her, since there were nine models right in front of her

and finally, ikon was the last group, and soo-young was excited just by seeing their clothes, they would certainly use one of their hip hop songs and that hyped her up

ateez was chosen as the first to perform and soo-young made sure that she was the one cheering the loudest for them

just at the first line, she recognized the song and she was so surprised because the arrangement of the song was so different from the original, but she still liked it

once the performance ended with a human pyramid, soo-young was the first to stand up and clap the loudest she could

soo-young: “as expected, they never fail to impress and always deliver the good stuff.”

next up, ateez choose them, btob, and soo-young found it quite funny, the youngest group was the first one to perform, now it was the oldest group

before the stages began, soo-young could see how restless the other four were, so she made it her mission to calm them down, be it by just chatting about anything with them, playing some quick games with them, or just telling funny stories she experienced in her life

“and she did that even when she was the most nervous between us.” minhyuk commented while they were on their group interview and soo-young couldn’t argue with his statement since it was true

“so i wanted to thank her, for taking care of us even though we’re older and not even her group.” and all five of them had a tight group hug

in beautiful pain, soo-young was peniel’s rap duo, sang with changsub and harmonized the high note with eunkwang and minhyuk, and finished the song with the final lines

thankfully the performance went as perfectly as they expected, and soo-young was quite satisfied with it

they were called to choose the next group to perform

“yes, a moment, please.” they turned and quickly pretended they were discussing before returning to their places, soo-young had to keep a straight face so she wouldn’t laugh with their reactions

the group they chose was sf9, soo-young was initially confused as to why rowoon was going with them, and when he told her the reason, she decided to sit closer so he wouldn’t feel lonely, maybe her compliments to the performance would make him feel a little bit better

soo-young was glad they chose them because as soon as the performance started, she quickly recognized her favorite song, and at every opportunity, she would throw lots of compliments, making sure that the left-out member was hearing

when the performance ended, she threw both thumbs up to rowoon to let him know how satisfied she was, and she returned to her previous place between her group mates

the next group to perform was stray kids, and soo-young really wanted to see it, she knew that skz was a talented group, so she knew they would impress everyone

and she wasn’t wrong, with the good song arrangement, the difficult choreo and the overall performance made everyone cheer for the group, soo-young included

the groups left were ikon and the boyz, but since ikon was already set to perform last, the boyz were the ones who would perform next

soo-young binge-watched road to kingdom a few days ago, and she knew that these boys were incredibly talented and equally creative, so she was really looking forward to their performance, although she was slightly worried since she overheard some staff saying that one of the members made some mistakes in the rehearsals

and just as she expected, they didn’t deliver a performance, but instead, they delivered a piece of art

finally, the moment soo-young was waiting for, now it was finally time to watch ikon’s performance

she started to get ecstatic once she saw them going up to the stage after preparing their mics, especially when she recognized her favorite song and she started bouncing and singing along, just like in the previous stages, she was not disappointed in the slightest

after they received the okay to prepare to go home, soo-young asked her for parents - ahem, eunkwang, and minhyuk’s permission to see her friends and hopefully make more

she interacted with both sf9 and ikon, compliments leaving her mouth non-stop about how cool she thought they were, at some point, she got ikon to promise to sign one of her albums one day

soo-young made her way to some of the boys in tbz, her mind set to talk with a specific member and she soon found him a bit far from his members

to sum it all up: she got juyeon’s number because she was worried about his knees and wanted to make sure he wouldn’t feel sore later, she also got changbin, chan, and felix’s numbers and got a warm and tight hug from each member in atz, although she was the one who had to hug jongho with the excuse of ‘what kind of older sister would i be if i left out my dear baby brother?’

debut era!! everyone was so excited for this day ever since everything was confirmed, both the girls and their fans!

the promotions lasted a total of three weeks from SEPTEMBER 24, 2018 to OCTOBER 25, 2018, two weeks for the “DONE” promotions, and one extra week for “DIFFERENT” promotions.

unfortunately, there were no wins for this era, and it was ranked out of the top 100 in melon, but the album still left people talking about it, and about the group in general, and the reception was very satisfactory for the company.

the stages were very good considering it was their debut, with the elegant props and even more elegant outfits, it’s clear that the budget was pretty high.

SILVER’s fancam in one of the “DONE” stages went viral because of her visuals and how she handled a wardrobe malfunction so professionally and smoothly, even though she’s just a rookie.

the group had a good promotion, they appeared on a lot of variety shows such as weekly idol, knowing brothers, idol room, and many others, they were praised for their variety skills, especially LANA, NOIR and LAURA, who were dubbed as the ‘variety line’.

in this era, the other three, SILVER, VENUS and HARU were the ones who were more active on v-live, especially SILVER, who would sing a lot of covers and answer some questions from the fans.

this was a very awaited debut for the produce 101 s1/i.o.i fans, so this era was overall a success!

[BREAKING NEWS!] Netizens Shocked When Celestial’s Noir Was Confirmed To Participate In Mnet’s ‘Kingdom: Legendary War’

What is your opinion on this?

Mnet‘s ‘Kingdom: Legendary War’ is an all-male sequel to the all-female music competition show, ‘Queendom’ (2019). The show features ATEEZ, BTOB, iKON, SF9, Stray Kids, and The Boyz as competitors. The Boyz won a preliminary competition for the show, ‘Road to Kingdom’.

Or at least, it was supposed to be an all-male sequel. When Cube Entertainment confirmed the participation of BTOB in MNet’s new reality show, it was said there would be a small surprise with the boys, which made all their fans start theorizing on which surprise it could be, and on January 27th, the suspense was replaced with pure shock when BTOB’s company announced the four idols would be accompanied by no one other than Cube’s golden girl, Celestial’s Noir.

That announcement caused quite the controversy, as ‘Kingdom’ was supposed to be the male counterpart of ‘Queendom’, and yet a female idol would be participating, which made various netizens question the reason behind it, and the bigger number demanded Cube to rethink about their decision as she wasn’t even part of the group. However, there were some few netizens who accepted and even supported Cube’s decision, as they thought the female idol would be a great addition to the group since two of the members are still in military service.

“And yet again, Cube still makes questionable decisions. Not a surprise. ㅋㅋㅋ”

“I understand Noir is talented and is their gold mine, but this is a male reality show, and last time I checked, she is in a girl group.”

a/n: as someone who absolutely loved kingdom, even though there was a lot of controversy bc you know, Msnake. but i especially loved the interactions between the groups, and i really wanted my baby to be part of that but i wasn’t sure if i should, until i said fuck it and ended up doing it! bc you know, this is fanfiction and i can make anything happen (within reason, ofc). and since celestial is also in cube, it did make things easier for me to infiltrate soo-young inside btob lol.

they weren’t close at first, they only met because the ceo in sm paired them to go to produce 101 together, during the survival show, they were placed in the same room in the dorm, and they spent most of their free time when they didn't practice by chatting about anything that passed in their head, thus, they got closer.

soo-young was really happy when eun-chae was confirmed to be in celestial as well, even more, when she was chosen as the leader, she’s a really reliable and responsible person, so it was wise to choose her to lead them.

to soo-young, eun-chae is one of the most hardworking people she ever met, spending hours and hours in the company’s studio, always creating good music for the group.

and because of that, soo-young always makes sure that eun-chae doesn’t overwork herself by always bringing her food, more caffeine or just keeping eun-chae some company while always reminding her that it’s equally important for her to have a proper rest from time to time.

and to eun-chae, soo-young is someone she can fully trust no matter what.

soo-young was the one eun-chae went to first when admitting that she’s bisexual, she wanted to say it to their fans but admitted that she was scared, but soo-young promised that everything would be okay and since then, soo-young is still keeping her word.

at first soo-young was a bit taken aback by how shy and private hua is.

but then she accepted it and respected whenever hua wasn’t feeling like indulging soo-young in her shenanigans.

soo-young enjoys spending time with hua, there’s something in her aura that makes the room so comforting.

soo-young is also really protective of hua especially when she discovered that the chinese member was quite sensitive, even more towards conflicts and criticism.

hua is quite fond of soo-young, she’s actually the first to notice whenever soo-young was feeling down.

so whenever that happens, hua usually asks if soo-young wants to accompany her when she’s having a creative burst to write some lyrics, because she knew that soo-young would eventually calm down.

soo-young loves when hua raps, it’s like a soft and quiet doll is suddenly spitting fire, it never ceases to amaze her.

but soo-young also loves hua’s rare vocal moments, she thinks her deep tone suits her singing.

unfortunately for the venus and noir stans, there aren’t lots of moments when they’re caught together on camera due to hua’s shyness with soo-young’s extroverted ass, the most common place you will find them together in either on v-live or on their sns.

a/n: btw! this starts before they became official maybe i’ll do a separate post on more details of how they became public, in the future, because i still have lots of plans and things to do!

they met in 2017 through mingi, although it was indirectly, a little bit before soo-young and some of the ateez members went to mixnine.

one day, soo-young visited the apartment where ateez lived with the intention of returning a game mingi had borrowed her, of course, she was being really careful so no one would recognize her and stop her to ask questions since she was still quite famous because of i.o.i.

mingi had messaged her that the other members weren't at the apartment and he was alone, so you can imagine her surprise when an unfamiliar face answered when she rang the doorbell.

embarrassed at being greeted by someone she wasn't expecting and that she considered handsome, she introduced herself as mingi's longtime friend and explained the reason for her sudden visit. as soon as he got the game, she wished him a good day and left as quickly as possible, soon grabbing her phone to scold mingi for lying and especially for not introducing her to this handsome guy before. little did she know that soon after, this handsome stranger went to mingi, curious about her and wanting to sate it.

the next time they saw each other it was after the debut of both their groups, in 2019, when both were backstage for kcon in japan. soo-young was excited to see her best friend because it’s been a while since they last saw each other personally before his tour, she saw him casually chatting with some of the members so she approached them to give mingi a quick side hug and congratulate all of them for their tour.

mingi officially introduced her to the other members, and after the introduction, soo-young spent most of the time talking with him, alongside yunho, san, and seonghwa, and when they noticed, soo-young’s manager called her back so she could get ready for her group’s performance, meaning that she spent quite the time just chatting with the boys. soo-young thought of getting their number as well so she could keep chatting with them, but since she was in a hurry, she wasn’t able to ask for it.

so imagine the surprise of one specific member when he was getting ready to sleep and then he received a message from an unknown number a week after kcon.

‘hello, this is soo-young, mingi’s childhood friend. i really enjoyed talking with you that day on kcon, so i demanded mingi to give me your number. i hope that you don’t mind and that we keep chatting, good night and sleep well yunho-sshi! :))’

on that night, san had to hit him with one of his plushies so his roommate would stop screaming on his own pillow.

after yunho’s breakdown, they started chatting more frequently, even more than soo-young would chat with mingi.

in the beginning, yunho was so nervous that he saved soo-young’s contact as ‘noir noona’ while soo-young saved his as ‘yuyunho’. luckily, soo-young was able to keep everything casual between them, and their chats were so smooth that it didn’t take a week for yunho to feel more comfortable with soo-young, she even convinced him that it was fine for him to talk informally with her while they were by themselves.

their texts were pretty refreshing for each other, it was the highlight of their days, they would talk about everything and anything, such as music they’ve been listening to, they would share dance tips, they would send food pics to each other (especially when the other mentioned that they were hungry), share interesting and funny stories they went through in their life, and much more.

their texts turned into long phone calls whenever they had time, which turned into video calling each other, and then they started appearing on each other’s content, like on v-lives.

to other people, that would be highly suspicious of them, but to their fans, this was normal because soo-young is like that with her friends, especially with mingi and when rumors started to appear and their fans questioned her, she assured that while she’s very affectionate with people who are really close to her, it was purely platonic. so when signals of their close friendship started to appear, both gems and atiny were like ‘just another day of kwon soo-young with her close friends’.

at this point, yunho was in too deep for her, and soo-young soon noticed that something was different when she started thinking how she wanted to make him smile and especially when she started thinking that she wanted to kiss his whole face (lips included).

basically, they’re totally whipped for each other, and mingi knew it, he just kept it to himself because he thought it was funny, this little shit.

it took quite some time for one of them to ask the other on a date with romantic intentions, they had certified Feelings™ for each other in mid-2020, but they never acted on it mostly because they were pussies, and also because they were busy with their own groups. they only started to act on their feelings in early-2021, and even then, they decided not to rush anything, they wanted to take their own time and see if they were really ready.

but then, everything started to become chaos when soo-young started to post some sus sappy shit on her personal sns, her stans started to create all the possible and impossible theories of who’s the ‘unlucky man’. then the other members of her group joined on the teasing for their gems to discover who’s the man, and then soo-young’s friends also joined, and everything went from chaos to apocalyptic.

their relationship was confirmed and at the same time published to the public when the behind the scenes for noir’s mv for her solo full album was released, and 4 minutes in, when soo-young was filming a dance scene, a man, which was revealed to be yunho, arrived on the set with all his 6’1” glory. when soo-young noticed him after being done with one of her dance scenes, she ran to him to give a tight hug, which she was received with open arms and a soft kiss on her forehead, his ‘did you eat, babe?’ and her shaking of the head with her ‘no, i wanted to wait to eat with you, yeobo’ was the cherry on top for both gems and atiny to go apeshit.

at first, cube didn’t allow their relationship and nor it to go public, but they already were on thin ice after hyuna and dawn, plus both soo-young and her brother pulled on a few strings for everything to work out in the end. and as always, there were some fans who supported soo-young and yunho’s relationship, but there were also netizens who looked down and judged the couple, luckily, the supporters were able to shun the haters with lots of love for both main dancers.

whenever this couple interacted, it made you want a similar relationship because the two of them were so wholesome and genuine with each other, to the point where fans would joke that they were getting cavities because of how sweet they were, and honestly? it's very hard not to like this amazing couple, the ones who publicly say that they don’t support it are because they're either very jealous of either soo-young or yunho, period.

their relationship is “normal” in a way, there was a lot of respect, affection, and mutual admiration on both sides. with their outgoing and fun personalities, both children are guaranteed to get laughs from many. they are like sticky gums that love good physical contact, when they see an opportunity, they are either hugging or kissing any part of the other's face while filling the victim with compliments and sweet nothings, something that especially yunho loves receiving from his noona.

of course, the two would still argue, especially with soo-young’s stubbornness and possessiveness, and she can get easily jealous when someone shows an interest in him that goes beyond the platonic level, and other times yunho can get quite impulsive, but soo-young is always the first to apologize (even when she's not at fault) as she knows that yunho would be brooding with guilt and with a super heavy heart, and she would never want her baby boy to get that bad feeling, but when it's yunho who apologizes first, he makes a point of taking as much time as possible to treat her like a true goddess afterward.

they go way back because went to the same middle school in incheon, although soo-young is 1 year older than him. she was new not only at the school, but in the country as well, and mingi was the first to approach her when the other kids were ‘too scared of the foreigner’ since then they stuck together like magnet and iron, which created lots of embarrassing stories of each other.

these two are absolute crackheads whenever they’re together, it’s practically impossible not to laugh at least once when they are in the same room. but there’s also a lot of cute moments between them, from soo-young spoiling the shit out of mingi, and mingi also taking care of soo-young as she does to him, to mingi clearly being soo-young’s rock through her struggles, and soo-young also being even more active in mingi’s life whenever he’s struggling with life. of course, there are moments when they argue as well, most of it comes from soo-young’s possessiveness, which she tries to control as much as she can since she only feels possessive with a few of her friends, but there are moments when she can’t control it, but soo-young physically can’t stay mad with mingi, so she always tries to fix the problem as soon as possible, and when they are good with each other again, sometimes mingi admits that he finds it cute that soo-young can get jealous with their friendship.

she was beaming with happiness when mingi shared the news that he would be debuting only a few months after soo-young’s own debut, and she made quite clear that no matter what, she will be always the biggest atiny in the world.

she first met jongho, hongjoong, and wooyoung because of mixnine, soo-young wished she could meet the other members as well, but she knew there would be more opportunities. and she got those opportunities, she met the other members properly when they were being interviewed by her friends for their youtube channel, and she had a meeting with them soon after, and not wanting to lose the opportunity to meet mingi’s group, she arrived at the place earlier and was able to meet them.

this is such a POWERFUL duo, it actually stuns gems and atiny alike of how much power those two hold, especially whenever they perform together, be it on an official show or when soo-young invites him to dance on vlive or for a cover to post on her sns.

sunmi is one of the people soo-young respects the most, both as a person and as an artist, at first, soo-young just liked sunmi when she was still in wonder girls, but when sunmi released her first solo, soo-young became a diehard fan of the soloist. the two officially met when they saw each other in a coffee shop where they both frequented, and with her incredible charms, it didn't take long for soo-young to win the woman's heart. sunmi has always made it clear that she has adopted soo-young as her child, the interactions between the two are way too cute for viewers to handle and it can make you think ‘why don't I have a friendship like this?’. sunmi often calls soo-young her princess, which makes soo-young call sunmi her queen to make it fair.

if there's one person who plays the mother role for soo-young, it's sunmi. she's always texting soo-young to see if she's eaten, if she’s resting well, and making sure she doesn't work herself too hard, sunmi and soo-young are seen several times around walking together everywhere. in fact, sunmi is always the first to know everything that happens in soo-young's life, especially her love life, something that left mingi jokingly offended, since her unnie is more experienced when it comes to romantic relationships. the mother-daughter relationship between the two is a very wholesome thing to see.

Whenever they are in the same room, there’s a 50/50 chance where it's either a contagious lull where everyone just enjoys the gentle atmosphere or it's a mess everywhere with a bit of mischief between them. speaking of which, soo-young has always stirred up the more mischievous side of taeyong, so it's quite common to see the two of them always making fun of each other and pranking each other, which can become a comedy show to enjoy for those who are uninvolved in the mess.

this trio is made with simple people, but they were happy together, so that’s what matters.

a/n: i think this was the one who took the most of my brainpower, but i guess i’m pretty satisfied with the result. this is pretty lengthy btw, i think the word count reached to 3,7k words.

[ early life ]

kwon soo-young was born on september 16, 1998 in quebec, canada. daughter of the current ceo of a popular conglomerate company, kwon changmin, and of a renowned interior designer and administrator, kwon hannah, and younger sister of kwon young-joo, who is an entrepreneur that many consider to be a genius.

to say that soo-young never had the greatest relationship with her parents is an understatement. the only moment the older kwons ever paid attention to their younger child is when the media is involved or when she did anything that would disappoint them (even if it was a small thing that normal parents would consider to be meaningless), which they would punish and degrade her for it for weeks until they forget completely about her again. it would soon be common in soo-young’s life for her parents to heavily compare her with her older brother and say how she should be exactly like he is, which wouldn’t help her mental health in the future.

many would think that because of the comparison always present in her daily life, she would dislike her brother or even hate him, however, it’s actually the very opposite. even in her very young days, she would consider her brother to be her only light, how could she hate the only one in her family that genuinely cared about and for her. nowadays, while she’s always teasing him, she always reminds him how much he matters to her, more than anyone.

but not everything is a bed of roses, the bad news arrived when soo-young was 10 years old, young-joo was being sent to live with his uncle in south korea by his parents so he can prepare to study in a university his father chose. when the day came, and the siblings had to be separated for an unknown time, she knew that she had to endure hell for the coming years.

and endure it she did but at the cost of her mental health. the verbal abuse she suffered from those who were supposed to care for her just became worse with her brother’s departure, and it took a few months for her father to start abusing her physically, but not enough to cause permanent bruises.

only 2 years later that soo-young started getting a deeper and genuine interest in music after watching a band show that her school was hosting for a celebration she didn’t really care about. the way the band was being passionate even if it was performing for a bunch of kids intrigued soo-young. ever since, she started to get deeper and deeper in music until she found a kpop video, to be more specific, songs from boa, girl’s generation, and super junior. it was basically love at first sight, or first listen. that was the moment that she knew what she really wanted, she wanted to be part of that.

luckily for her, at the age of 14, soo-young's older brother was able to invite her to live with him in south korea, and of course, soo-young jumped at the opportunity to stay away from her parents while being able to get physically close to her newfound dream. in the beginning, soo-young’s parents didn’t allow the idea, but all it took was a little chat with young-joo, until this day, she never knew what her older brother said to their parents, all she knows is that he somehow was able to convince them, and she won’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

[ life in korea ]

now living in incheon, soo-young started working on her korean right away, she took a whole day to memorize at least the basics while her older brother was finding a decent school for her.

the first week at school was rough for soo-young for 2 reasons, 1. she was in a new country that spoke in a language she wasn’t fluent in yet, and 2. she was aware that most of the kids there weren’t that open-minded towards foreigners, even if they looked asian, so it was really hard for her to make friends at first. but there was one kid who approached her without caring for the whispers about her, song mingi, who was 1 year younger than her. he admitted that he was shy to approach her at first, but they “clicked so well together, it was as if they were friends forever!”. mingi was a breath of fresh air for soo-young, even with her broken korean, he was still patient enough and helped her to communicate with him, it didn’t take long for both to become inseparable.

in the same year, mingi one day showed soo-young a leaflet showing that near their school there would be an open concert of a group of people who would perform local songs, with both of them interested in similar fields and soo-young wanting to show mingi – who never went to any show – how exciting it is, they wasted no time to ask their guardians to go watch. after that day, both friends started looking for places to take dance lessons, as mingi was more interested in rap while soo-young was more interested in singing, the two found a happy medium with dancing, and out of countless attempts, both were accepted into one of the joy dance and plug in music academy units in incheon.

in the beginning, soo-young was a goner when it came to dancing, only her vocals (which wasn't even that stable) saved her, and because of that, she used all her free time to practice non-stop, of course, she also rested so she wouldn’t go to her classes completely exhausted. but she would be lying if she said she regretted signing up with mingi.

unfortunately, young-joo was sent by his father to move to seoul, as there was little time until he was able to finally start working, so he thought it best to send the older sibling to live closer to his future job. and being responsible for his younger sister, young-joo had to take soo-young along, which broke the hearts of the two inseparable friends. before moving, soo-young – with her brother's help – bought two farewell gifts for mingi, one of the gifts was one of the most expensive cell phones at the time so they could always stay in touch, and a pair of rings, she told him to wear the sun ring on his pínky that she would do the same with the moon ring, and the two promised that they would be successful in the music industry.

[ the seoul life ]

soo-young's life in seoul was difficult, young-joo started to spend less time in the apartment they shared, so soo-young had to learn to cook to make it easier for the eldest, she had to continue to dedicate herself strongly to her studies so she wouldn’t irritate her father, and because of that, she didn't have time to look for another dance or singing academy, so she had to improvise. in terms of her dancing, she always watched as many videos and went to as many public performances as possible, soo-young always recorded dance covers on her cell phone for her to review later, so she could see the minor and big mistakes and fix them as quickly as possible. in terms of her singing, she would review what her singing teacher at plug in music academy taught her, and from there, soo-young started testing her vocal limits, like how high she can hold a chord without straining her vocal cords, and the lowest notes she could manage without making it sound bad for the ears.

[2013] just before graduating from high school in 2013, soo-young wished to see how far she could go with her own efforts and decided to audition to an entertainment company, wanting to try her luck, she auditioned at one of the big guns, which turned out to be sm entertainment. honestly, she wasn’t supposed to pass the audition since her dance skills weren’t really the best, but soo-young was told that “it would be a shame to lose such a gem just because it’s unpolished, and when we can polish it to the max”, and therefore, soo-young was accepted as the new trainee at the company.

during her time at sm, soo-young has always been dedicated to all her activities as a trainee, while never forgetting to take care of her own health. and apparently, there were some trainers who seemed to favor soo-young among some of the other trainees, rumors said that those trainers had a soft spot for the more passionate trainees, and it is known between the trainees that soo-young was one who had the most passion.

of course, she also made some friends while training to be introduced at “sm rookies”, most notable ones were won soo-jin and lee taeyong, they were the ones who helped soo-young the most and were able to conquer their place in soo-young’s heart.

[2014] finally introduced as one of the “sm rookies”, soo-young started to feel deep in her gut that something wasn’t right. she ignored it, of course, in her mind, if it was truly important then she would’ve remembered. but then the days went by and she started feeling eyes on her, even when she was by herself. she kept it to herself because she didn’t want to burden her friend and her brother, and because she wanted to confirm her suspicions. everything was going right according to her plan until one night she received a few messages from an unknown number, in there was a single “don’t think just because you’re living in another country, they won’t know. they will be always watching you.” and then there were lots of photos of her in her daily life, going to the company with her two friends, enjoying ice cream with her brother at a park, even more private photos like ones where she was cooking, when she was putting makeup after waking up, and even when she invited soo-jin to a sleepover. how this person was able to get such photos when she was living on the 10th floor, she didn’t know, all she knew is that she was right from the very beginning, she had a stalker and a creepy one at that.

that day was when soo-young had her first panic attack, and she unknowingly called her friend from incheon instead of her brother, mingi stayed with soo-young on call until she fell asleep and he hurried to inform young-joo about what happened. and it was like that how soo-young discovered from her brother that their parents hired someone to “always keep them updated about their dearest children”, and that was the official day when soo-young developed an unhealthy paranoia, knowing that every day from now on, there would be someone to report every thing she does to her parents.

[2015] almost 2 years later, soo-young was able to earn herself the internal title of one of the best female trainees in sm, due to her rapid development, wherein the beginning she was an "okay" level and now many considered her to be able to debut in a possible future female group of the company.

however, to the surprise of many, a new group debuted, but soo-young wasn’t included in the line-up. that was okay, soo-young was a bit sad at that but she soon got over it, there were a lot of other female trainees that in her eyes were way better than her, and the girls in red velvet totally deserved debuting. but then yeri was added to the group, and soo-young couldn’t help but let the jealous feeling and insecurity take over her at the moment. both soo-jin and taeyong did their best to comfort their friend, and at that moment soo-young was really grateful for having such great friends. but soo-young knew that one of them was hurting from this as well. while soo-young wasn’t even considered for the debut line-up, soo-jin was being prepared to be the 5th member of red velvet, only for the company to substitute her last minute for yeri, and while soo-jin didn’t show it, soo-young knew she was hurting from this.

in the same night, soo-young and soo-jin were cuddling together while binge-watching some disney movies at soo-young’s apartment while they were waiting for her older brother to bring takeout for them. soo-jin suddenly came with the news that someone from her family could easily get some spots for both of them to become trainees at cube, and that soo-jin already claimed one of those spots because she wanted a fresh start and wanted to know if soo-young wanted one too. soo-young was confused at the sudden talk but she still understood her friend’s point of wanting to start fresh after all that happened. it took some thinking, but soo-young decided to postpone her decision, she still wanted to have some faith in her company, and she also didn’t want to leave taeyong behind, but at the same time, she didn’t want to completely decline the invitation.

for soo-young, training felt a bit emptier without soo-jin training with her, but she was able to handle it by being more productive in the year. soo-young registered at a dance studio which was also located in seoul and had caught her attention when she learned that lia kim, one of the well-known choreographers that she admired, was the one who founded this studio that known as 1MILLION. there, she knew she would receive dance lessons that she would take for the rest of her life, as well as she could also evolve enough to create her own choreographies.

[ things started changing ]

[2016] one day, the ceo asked to see soo-young and another trainee she didn’t meet but definitely saw between the trainees. the ceo came with a proposition for both her and park eun-chae, the other trainee with her, for them to participate in a new survival reality show that mnet would host named produce 101 while representing their company. maybe the ceo chose both of them because he knew they would be desperate to debut soon since he wore a satisfied expression when both trainees didn’t hesitate to agree.

even when both soo-young and eun-chae never talked properly, when they started to train together to prepare for the show, they had a certain natural synergy, it was as if they trained together since their first days as trainees.

the d-day arrived and soo-young couldn’t be any more nervous, she and her duo weren’t the first ones to arrive and because of that, there would be other trainees from other companies who would see which company they were representing, and it would only be natural to have high expectations on soo-young and on eun-chae, which placed a heavy burden on the former.

everything was going okay while in the program, or at least, it was what it seemed to be for outsiders, but actually, soo-young was a pile of nerves during the eleven episodes. there was even a moment where she had a breakdown while training for one of the missions. she begged the staff to cut that part off of the episode and even asked her brother to back her up, who agreed with the condition she would tell him every single thing after the reality show was over.

fortunately, soo-young was able to finish on rank 4, therefore, she was a confirmed member of the debut lineup, soo-young was sad because eun-chae wasn’t able to debut with her, but soon she was assured that it was okay and she should enjoy the moment.

soo-young’s time during i.o.i was a dream come true, but she knew it wasn’t going to last forever since that was sadly a temporary group, so she enjoyed the times with her girls to the fullest. the last show she performed with the other 10 girls was one of the saddest days of soo-young’s life. but, life goes on.

[ things started changing, the sequel ]

[2017] some things happened at sm entertainment while soo-young was busy with i.o.i, eun-chae left the company and joined another one which soo-young didn’t catch the name of, taeyong debuted and became leader of nct u and 127, which soo-young congratulated him a lot and made sure to let him know how proud she was of him.

with her friends either busy with his own group or at another company, it didn’t take long for soo-young to start feeling really lonely, then she remembered the offer soo-jin made to her 2 years ago and decided that it was time to really consider it. one phone call and a deep conversation later, soo-young had her mind already set, she would leave sm and join cube.

said and done, it wasn’t difficult at all to convince the ceo, which made soo-young wonder if the ceo only seemed to care for her when she was in produce and on i.o.i, but she didn’t put any more thoughts on it since she was now out. now she did a few more phone calls and sent an audition video to cube so they could evaluate her, and now it was official, the 2soo duo was back together again, this time to wreak chaos upon cube.

to soo-young’s double surprise, she found out that eun-chae was actually on cube as well, and yet again, the ceo called soo-young for a “quick chat”, but this time with soo-jin and another japanese trainee, whose name she learned to be haruko, this chat was an invitation for yet another survival show, but the difference was that this one was going to be basically girls vs boys. soo-young almost declined, but soo-jin was able to convince her to at least give it a try, and so, soo-young was ready to face her second survival reality show.

preparing the songs for the audition was a piece of cake with soo-jin and haruko, soo-young used to train with soo-jin, so they already had a synergy, but haruko was quite helpful, although she was pretty quiet and didn't talk much, but she listened and did her role well.

the day came when the oh so great yg’s ceo, yang hyun-suk, alongside seungri came to cube as judges for the audition. soo-young was confident that the three of them were going to pass, they made sure to train enough and soo-young knew for a fact that soo-jin and haruko are really talented. both soo-young and soo-jin were able to get into the debut bus while haruko was placed with the other trainees.

to soo-young’s surprise, the bus’ next stop was at kq entertainment, mingi’s company. to say that soo-young was excited was an understatement, she heard stories about his group of friends, and they seemed like they were cool guys. while watching the group’s performance, soo-young couldn’t hold back the proud look on her face. when she heard that he was going in the trainee bus, she almost jokingly asked if she could exchange seats with either soo-jin or haruko just so she could talk with her old friend.

soo-young’s time while on mixnine while it wasn’t as rough as it was in produce 101, it still wasn’t a walk in the park. she managed to pull through thanks to her friends, mingi, soo-jin, and haruko, and also to the friends she made while in the reality show, who were there to help her with her struggles.

[2018] unfortunately, mingi was eliminated from the reality show, and so was haruko, soo-jin and soo-young were able to get to the final line-up but their team lost the boys’ team, so they weren’t able to debut. however, soo-young can confidently say that she didn’t regret joining mixnine, she had a lot of fun, met wonderful people, and felt the thrill of a survival show once more, of course, she pitied the male trainees that were chosen for the final line-up since their debut was canceled.

the next few months were pretty productive for soo-young, she spent most of her time getting even closer with haruko and eun-chae and other trainees at cube, she practiced and even choreographed for some songs, which many were uploaded on her personal sns, and that was how she met one of her sunbaes.

a few days after she was tasked to create a choreography for btob’s ‘only one for me’, and she met peniel while she was using one of the free practice rooms so she could brainstorm since she found herself stuck at some parts, apparently the other members were busy doing something and he wanted to check on her. both of them spent most of the day chatting, but at the same time peniel was really helpful, he gave his opinion on the choreography she had ready and gave some ideas based on a few options on which soo-young was stuck. their close friendship came naturally as they talked more. she met the rest of the group on the day she had to teach them the finished choreography, the boys were very receptive and it wasn’t difficult to teach them, although the fact that soo-young was a very good teacher did help, the atmosphere was light and it felt like they knew each other for years, which was a very good thing in soo-young’s eyes (even nowadays, peniel jokes around saying that eunkwang adopted soo-young the moment they first spoke to each other).

as if life wasn’t done rewarding her, a month later, she received the news that she was chosen as one of the girls who would debut in a new girl group that was being prepared, and it was asked of her if she would accept it, and her answer was pretty obvious, she accepted it. luckily for her, when she met the other girls that were confirmed in the lineup with, she knew most of them, with the exception of the youngest, and to soo-young’s surprise and happiness, eun-chae, soo-jin and haruko were in the lineup as well.

soo-young suffered and shed a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get where she is now, but now she has a place to call home with people to call family, and she couldn’t be happier.

CELESTIAL (세레티알) is a six-member girl group currently under cube entertainment. The current lineup consists of silver, venus, noir, lana, haru, and laura. They debuted on september 24, 2018 with the mini-album new moon and the title-track DONE.

the group was a project that was supposed to debut right after 4minute’s disbandment, but cube decided to wait more so they could “groom” the girls a bit more. with celestial meaning “supremely good”, among other definitions, the members were hand-picked so they could live up to the group’s name with their talent, and soon be known as the aces of the kpop industry.

the group is known for its various concepts such as dreamy/magical, elegant, dark, girl crush, and many others. once the group was announced, netizens initially frowned upon their versatility in concepts and many doubted it would work, but they still put faith in cube’s newest group, which soon it was proved that it wasn’t in vain.
