Today is the first day, that after Christmas. I went to school and ask Justin where I can buy the tool for engraving. He shows me the shop call, Betts. This shop has over 250 years of history. It is the best engraving tool shop in the town. I bought three tool which is spitstick graver/ square graver and bullstick graver. 

Then I can still train my engraving skill after the optional module.

I feel my skill well enough for pushing myself into the next stage. I  trying to engrave a bougie on the Slofcut. But this material is too smooth. It can not print evenly.

At Christmas, I try another way which is the positive cutting. But this experiment shows the Lion is not the proper material for positive cutting. It becomes too thin. That makes me cannot print it well.

Doing the last experiment, I cut my thumb accidentally. I have to wait until it healing.

In this experiment, I was trying to cat into the negative, this is the halfway.

I used different paper on the wood block. Some every paper have a different outcome.

This is the outcome of the first experiment, in this experiment, I cut it in the obverse.

Finally, I can book an appointment in the printing workshop. I have a chat with Justin, he told me how to use the engraving tool. For the wood engraving, I have to print the surface in black. Then I use a pencil to make the mark on the surface of the wood, after that I use this tool which I borrow from Justin. But I still forgot to reverse the image.

Then I scan those image into the laser machine, to try the laser engraving. And this is the outcome, it gives me a strange feeling. But that was a complete failure because this board is not completely flat, then it can not print on the paper.

This printing was from the same sheet which is from the last post. But I sued a very different technic, normally people using a board to giving the balanced pressure on the paper and engraving. In this example, I used a seal and give them different pressure. This is the outcome.

The printing workshop is very busy so I can not get an appointment. Then I went to the class art for a printing tool. This time I use a material call Softcut. This material has a very special tattoo. But I made a mistake, I did not reverse the image. so the outcome was very interesting.

The next experiment I did. I went to the wood workshop, I choose a crab stick and mark on the stick. Then using the blade to carve on the wood. But I field, this wood was split up. I tyred two sides, it works best on one side, but it was completely failed. Then I am thinking about I need to find a new type of wood. that I need to go to the print workshop and have a chat with Justin.

The first experiment which I did, is writing on clay. I used air dry clay, first I make this clay into the board. And using a clay tool, to carve on this board. The symbol that I am carving on this board is from the Middle East and Phoenician.

I am always interesting about history. Because of this reason, in this optional model, I choose the ancient technique. I have been to the British Museum, to find out which ancient technique that I can study with. Then I choose the way to print the ancient symbols.
