Something stirs...
October always makes me want to write horror...
But, that's not the reason behind this post! After a ridiculous stretch of radio silence I just wanted to announce that there's a small update to my smaller project, New Avalon Blues.
The apartment assassination vignette is complete, and if you're inclined to check it out you can do so here:
Work moves ahead slowly on all fronts (real life interferes -- nuff said), but slow is better than stasis I suppose.
Hope everyone has a happy Thursday!

This is a result of the inhumane decisions that members of this administration want you to be silent about in public for fear of a loss of “civility”.

Dang, redhead lady is an RO? After seeing this snippet, it's going to be a wild ride going from irritated enemies to... anything else, platonic or otherwise!
I had a few people ask about a "rivalmance" and as the character of the redhead started developing it occurred to me that a driven professional that you come up against in a tense, life or death situation fit the bill nicely.
Professional rivalry turning to irritated feelings of attraction to grudging acceptance of these annoying emotions to...???
If I do it right it will be a wild but ultimately satisfying experience!

An (Almost) Proper Update
So! I have come out of a creative dry spell on a tear, writing about 10k words over the paat three days.
The bad news, for fans of Good Intentions, is that they've all been for my other project New Avalon Blues.
Right now I'm just riding the creative high and flowing wherever it takes me. I'll return to 1947 soon enough, but right now 1987 is bangin'.
Here's a short snippet (warning: it's the goriest scene I've written so far. If mention of blood and guts disturb you, then you should probably just scroll past the rest of this...
Also, the mysterious redhead is a confirmed RO if you're feeling paticularly bold. Strap in for a wild ride with that route.
You quickly line up a shot on the redhead, calculating that the trained professional is more dangerous than some mob goon with a shotgun.  Time seems to slow as you focus on your target, aiming for the space right between her shining green eyes – right up until Malo swings his shotgun in your direction.
You duck below the swinging barrel of the weapon then are immediately deafened as it goes off right above your head.  Despite the all-consuming ringing in your ears you spring into a flurry of action.
Dropping your pistol you first drive your fist into Malo’s gut, then follow up by wrenching the shotgun from his hands and smashing in his nose with the butt of the weapon.  You can’t hear the crunch of cartilidge as his nose breaks, but you are treated to the sight of the bright plume of blood that accompanies it.
As he clutches his face you sidestep so that his body is between you and the redhead, fouling the shot that she was lining up on you.  Racking your stolen shotgun you fire a blast that she avoids by throwing herself to the floor behind the sofa.
You then turn to Malo who is just now pulling his hands away from his bloody, broken nose.  His eyes go wide for just a moment before you jab the shotgun into his gut and pull the trigger.  The blast nearly tears him in two, showering the immedate area in an explosion of blood and viscera.  You once again give silent thanks for your clinging shadows as the gore simply slides off of your slithering armor – the rest of this corner of the apartment looks like a particularly unsanitary abattoir right now.
Your hearing must be coming back a little because from behind the sofa you hear a brief retching noise, then the sound of someone spitting followed by a muttered, “Savior, right in my fucking mouth.”
Tossing the shotgun onto the scattered remains of Anthony Malo you retrieve your pistol and call out, “My job is done here.  I’m willing to walk out of this apartment if you’ll agree not to shoot me in the back.”
The readhead rises from behind the couch, her clothes and face spattered with blood and other, squishier fragments of Anthony Malo.  The streaked gore on her face makes her look like some predatory beast from a far earlier era as she fixes your with a piercing emerald gaze.
“You know, any other day I’d blow you away on general principle,” she replies.  You both pause as the approaching whine of police sirens sounds from outside.  “But right now I just want to take a hot shower and wash my client’s guts out of my hair.”
She tosses the big Magnum pistol onto the floor then says in an icy tone, “But the next time I see you, La Sombra, I’m putting you in the ground.  Count on it.”
Her eyes flare with blue light as her body once again turns ghostly and insubstantial.  Shooting one last glare in your direction she simply drops through the floor as if a trapdoor had been opened beneath her, vanishing from sight.
Savior, what a night.  Time to get the hell out of here.

Welp.
i’ve been doing my homework on how to break into a writing career and honestly. there’s a Lot that i didn’t know about thats critical to a writing career in this day and age, and on the one hand, its understandable because we’re experiencing a massive cultural shift, but on the other hand, writers who do not have formal training in school or don’t have the connections to learn more via social osmosis end up extremely out of loop and working at a disadvantage.

Now I want to write a book about a guy who travels to parallel worlds by falling asleep...
A girl I liked convinced me to stab a man, so I did. Felt guilty for a bit, then promptly forgot about it and walked around with the murder weapon for a couple of hours, going about my business, walking my dog. Eventually I was cornered by a plainclothes police officer who asked me why I had a bloody knife; I told him I was looking after it for my bogan cousin. He said, “You’re under arrest,” and I was like,, “No, I’m not, watch this,” and then I woke up.

Side Project is a Go
I just released the demo of a side project I’ve been working on (mostly when I’m having trouble focusing on my main WIP Good Intentions.)
This story is set in the same world, except now it’s forty years later. You play the role of a professional assassin living in New Avalon, unaware that your life is about to take a turn towards the weird. Murder cults and dark gods do have a way of interfering with carefully-laid plans, after all.
The demo as it stands now is the first two chapters, about 21,000 words without code (or around 10% the length of GI).
This is just a side project, and my main focus will still be my other WIP, but I hope you enjoy this peek into what’s coming next once that project is completed.

Hi, I just discovered Good Intentions like two days ago from someone I follow and I'm really glad I stopped to read it because it's so good!! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time reading. I love everything and all the characters, so I look forward to seeing how things progress! Also there were some scenes I really liked, so I was wondering if it's okay for me to maybe draw fan art sometime? :)
Hi! If I already answered this, please forgive me. I am bad at social media and also forgetful!
If I haven't answered this, please forgive me. I am bad at social media and literally just realized your question was in my inbox thingie!
Please feel free to draw whatever you like. Inspiration can come from the strangest places, and it's quite humbling to think my stilted scrawlings might serve such a purpose.

Small patch up
I think(?) I fixed some of the Evans weirdness -- there's still unwritten content that obviously needs to be done, but I believe the playthrough should be slightly smoother. There's also a variable to check if you went to the club in ch2 that should prevent you being able to return in ch3.
Sorry for the slow progress recently. Been in a weird headspace lately and what creativity I've felt has been directed elsewhere. This tangled code is getting to me far more than it should for some reason and causing me to procrastinate.
Hopefully the major issues have been corrected -- let me know if you still experience any errors. Thanks for sticking with me!

Status update
I tend to be more active on the CoG forums than I am on Tumblr, so I thought it may be a good idea to let everyone over here know what's been going on.
In simple terms I've been crushed with work and family obligations, and so haven't had the time to dig deep into the bugs that were introduced in the last content update. With luck I'll have some good news on that front this coming weekend.
This is totally a "me" thing, but I find myself stymied creatively because of these horrible bugs that I can't get fixed andohgodanxietyand...
Well, you get the picture.
Instead I've been putting time into a seperate story, set in the same universe as Good Intentions but forty years later, in 1987.
GI will be completed, and in fact remains my primary project. I just sometimes need a release valve when I get the itch to write, and simply follow where inspiration leads.
The new book is tentatively titled "New Avalon Blues". I'll probably post a demo of the first chapter sometime in May, and with luck have GI straightened out and complete through Chapter 4 as well.
Here's hoping!

So I’ve been working on a side project  and I needed a throwaway name for a country-western singer and the first thing that popped into my head was “Hank Bacon” and it may be the single greatest name I have ever thought of.
Like, Hank Bacon is now official canon, and I think I must now work in a cameo appearance somehow.
How is everyone who isn’t trying to stifle giggles over a made-up name doing today?

I’m wondering; my character is Male, but when he undresses for the wizard, he’s treated as female. Is this a bug?
Definitely a bug. I thought I fixed it by expanding the if-else structure there, but seem to have made it worse instead. I'm now thinking using multireplace will probably work better and hopefully clear up the issue.
That fix will be in the next patch which I hope to have done in the next couple of days.

This latest update was so good! God, it really went from 0 to 60 real quick, regarding........ certain things that I'm not gonna say out loud bc spoilers.
Thank you! Chapter 4 was always meant to be the pivot point that tosses you down the rabbit hole you've chosen for yourself.
There's still a mess of continuity and general janitorial work to be done in Ch 3, but overall I'm pleased that the plot is more or less coming together now!

Arrival
The update is here!
https://dashingdon.com/go/3086 3
(I think I’m more nervous about this one than the original post…)
So! I finally got everything to pass Quick and RandomTest but I haven’t had the time to actually do continuity testing, so if something just plain doesn’t make sense please let me know and I’ll try to figure out where I short-circuited what.
This update is all of Chapter 3 and the first portion of Chapter 4. Total word count for the entire project (not counting code) is 220,000 words.
As mentioned previously two new ROs are now available, there’s a potential intimate scene with Detective Evans, and, if you so desire, you can attempt to flirt with Special Agent Hancock. (Good luck!).
Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who has shown an interest in my project. Honestly, without an audience this book never would have been written. It’s no fun putting in all this work to just yell into the void, after all!
(Non-stealth edit: You can view the stats screen, but everything there is utterly useless information. The whole thing needs a complete overhaul to match up with the trait system, which just isn’t done yet)
