King’s Maker Manhwa has an incredible concept

Whether you read manhwa or not, it is a good read!

Let me start with that

It discusses rape and pedophilia and why it is extremely horrible

It discusses abuse of power

It discusses the qualities of a good leader

It discusses what kind of people form a good government

It discusses the trauma that wars cause to children

It discusses poverty

It shows bad parenting

It shows that being clever and having a good heart pays off

It shows good parenting

It shows love is slow and progressing, and it is built in trust

When I found the manhwa, I thought it was the typical boys’ love fluff. It was much greater than that! It touched my heart and my soul! The storyline was insane and compelling, and the art was just magical.

It is a 10/10 for me! An absolute must read!

the fact that King’s Maker has a tiny bit of a fandom tickles me in all the right places :D

Well, the main story of Baker on the First Floor ended this past weekend.

Is anyone else as emotional as I was?

I dropped off for a few weeks, I’m so deep into a couple other comics at the moment, but the last four weeks or so? It came back strong and gave more than I was prepared for. Feels.

Final thoughts under the cut...spoilers abound!

Actual real tears were running down my cheeks during the reunion scene. I’m so proud of both of them for being able to move past the comparisons they were projecting on one another.

Especially Sun Hwa. The moment he walked away from Jin Kyo was so empowering, more so given how vulnerable he was at the time. However dysfunctional, Jin Kyo carried something for him. It wasn’t simply walking away from a person who didn’t care about him anymore.

Although it’s sad that they were apart for two years (I was not expecting that time skip JFC), he finally was able to take control of his life, flourish even. It made the moment they were reunited all the more sweet.

We finally learned Goong Ha’s sister’s name! Moo Hee. I like to think that she regretted essentially breaking up their relationship, and facilitating Goong’s meeting with You Jin was her way of trying to make amends. 

Possibly because she came to terms with her own sexuality (that gave me a giggle at the end)?

Also glad she was able to take the helm of their families company. She was the capable of the two, and the one who valued the position the most. Fuck sexism.

There was truth to what she said about the connection between Sun Hwa and You Jin, and although it wasn’t right how it was brought to light, it would have been a detriment to their relationship had it not. It wasn’t until Goong Ha lost the one he loved that he really had to face it. 

Aaand, I’m emotional again. 

A final note. I don’t know how it measures up to current Korean culture, but I was pleased to see their relationship be somewhat publicly accepted at the end. Generally speaking, I like how BOTFF acknowledged the scrutiny that these LGBT character’s can face.

This comic wasn’t what I was expecting at all. It carried an emotional weight that made the story fulfilling and well worthwhile. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did!
