Finding Joy in Cooking
As someone who enjoys cooking, one thing I can say is that cooking can be really fun and rewarding. Whether you’re making a quick snack or a meal, it lets you try new things, be creative with what you make, and then enjoy the food you made YOURSELF. But the hardest part, if you’ve never cooked before, is actually getting into the kitchen. You might think you can’t cook or that it’s too complicated, but everyone starts somewhere and something I like to always remind myself is that.... you never know unless you try. So I wrote down some tips that can help you feel more comfortable in the kitchen and make it something enjoyable.
When you’re new to cooking, it’s totally normal to feel a little lost. My best advice would be to keep it simple at first. Don’t jump into recipes with tons of ingredients or complicated steps. Start with stuff like scrambled eggs, pasta, or even your own fun take on quesadillas or tacos. These are easy to whip up and help you practice basic but super important skills like chopping, seasoning, and getting the timing right.
And don’t worry about fancy ingredients! You can make amazing meals with everyday stuff like garlic, onions, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Seriously, these basics can make anything taste great. If you can grab some fresh veggies, go for it. They usually taste better and are healthier, too.
Timing can seem tricky at first, but you’ll get the hang of it fast. Like, if you’re making quesadillas, make sure the filling is cooked and ready before you start grilling them. That way, everything is nice and hot, and the cheese melts perfectly. And trust me, using a timer can be a lifesaver. Especially if you’re trying to get that tortilla just the right amount of crisp without burning it. It helps you avoid overcooking or undercooking anything.
Cooking is also the perfect time to experiment. Don’t be afraid to try out new spices or ingredients you’ve never used before. Taste as you go and adjust things to YOUR liking.
Also..... Sometimes, a little squeeze of lemon or some fresh herbs at the end can totally level up your dish!
One of the coolest things about cooking is that you learn something every time. Maybe your pasta ends up too soft or you went too heavy on the salt that’s TOTALLY okay! Every time you cook, you’ll figure out what to tweak for next time. It’s all about practice, and making mistakes is part of the fun and mastering your dishes!
And lastly, one of the best parts of cooking is sharing it with others. Whether you’re making dinner for family, friends, or even just for yourself, it’s such a great way to connect and be able to experience the tastes and how they make you feel. (Especially knowing YOU made this)... You can share your recipes, cook for someone, cook together, or post your food pics online and share your proudly finished dish with your friends! It’s all about bringing happy feelings of enjoyment! Cooking is more than just feeding yourself it’s about making memories and what you make of the food and the experience! Cooking doesn't always have to be hard or have to be done a certain way! It's what YOU make it! So make it fun!!!
