I'm creating a new post with all the pertinent info in it for all the folks rolling into my inbox, saying we (and the media reports) are lying about Watching Over Me. Feel free to share.

First, what Steve said in an interview about Watching Over Me. The audio link:

After talking about how most of the second album was written in Vancouver while Jensen was working on SPN:

Steve: I basically came up with a lot of the ideas, and Jensen's really helpful with lyrical content. And one of the things that we love about writing together is that a lot of times we'll write something from different perspectives and not know that we're doing it. So we'll get halfway through or almost all the way through the song and realize that we both thought that we were writing about something completely different.

And then:

Steve: I think that the show (SPN) inspires the music a little bit. At least lyrically, because there is a lot of stuff about demons and angels watching over me and all these things, so I think that has something to do with it, and I think it's a natural thing by being in that environment.

And then:

Steve: In terms of what it directly means, the context and the meaning of the song, I think it means something different for Jensen than it does for me. I think to me, and I can only speak to how I perceive it, to me it was always about an angel watching over you that you don't necessarily want watching over you all the time. I don't think Jensen perceives it that way, I think he saw it as something different, but I like keeping songs in the abstract sometimes....but not being too abstract and having meaning for us as individuals.

Q: My question is for Jensen. It's about your song, Watching Over Me. It really resonated with a lot of fans because it seems to be about Cas from Dean's point of view, and I was wondering how that writing process went and if you intended it to be about Cas.

Jensen: A lot of the songs that Steve and I have written have double meanings. They are analogies... there's a way to read two meanings into them. Yes, Watching Over Me was definitely...not all of it, but there were many lyrics in there that were inspired by that story. YES.
