Ahem- Okay so I've just finished the OWK and I've made a list of all the normal not at all-homoerotic things that have been said about or between Obi-Wan and Vader, just to see how archnemeses would be perceived/talk about each other :

"He fought beside her father during the war. He'll come. He won't be able to help it." - Episode 1. Gurl quickly found out.

"Kenobi is all that matters now." - Episode 3. Anakin Skywalker's intense/10, we like that.

"Lord Vader will have you at any cost." - Episode 5. Again, she knows.

"Vader wants me." - Episode 5. He sure does.

"Because all he'll see is me." - Episode 5. A bit confident but 100% true.

"It's about you and him." - Episode 6. Always has been, hasn't it ?

"He's not just any Jedi." - Episode 6. Nah he's the love of your life.

"I wonder if your thoughts are clear on this, Lord Vader. Perhaps your feelings for your old master have left you weakened." - Episode 6. Ew, even the weird creep knows, get it together Darth.

Stop infantilizing disabled people. Speak directly to us, not our support person. Stop petting wheelchair users heads. Stop giving us help without actually asking if we need it. stop worrying about whether or not queer identities "make sense". gender itself doesn't make sense. "woman" and "man" are arbitrary constellations of traits and features that don't reflect how people who fall into those genders actually think, feel and behave. the definitions we have for manhood and womanhood don't make sense, either. according to cisheteronormative society, feminine men and masculine women don't "make sense" either. the biological sex binary makes ABSOLUTELY no sense, with intersex people proving that it quite literally doesn't exist.

why do queer identities have to "make sense" in order for you to see them as valid? they shouldn't have to. let go and accept that identity is not a scientific theory. it doesn't have to "make sense". none of this does. stop running others' identities through such scrutiny and realize your identity doesn't "make sense", either. embrace it. it's a good thing.

"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.

It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).

Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.

One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
