can i say something controversial... if u exclusively listen to rock/nu-metal you aren't a metal head... and like not even excluding or gatekeeping but its insane seeing polls on here with sooo many really good true metal genres and then NU-METAL wins by like 20%

and i LOVE nu-metal, well some of it, i don't like slipknot or limpbizkit personally or anything along those lines but a lot of the post-hardcore like nu-metal that was coming out around the same time is SSSOSOOOOOOO much better.... the mainstream shit feels cheap, poor lyrics and execution, they get by because their songs are catchy and that's about it

and im not shitting on anyone so like dont "let people enjoy things!?!?!?!?!?!" cause claiming to be a metal head under those circumstances is just not true? metalhead culture is so much more music based than goth culture, so seeing people get upset after just being wrong is nuts, i feel like social media really boiled down a lot of subcultures titles into like hotdog water, its okay and completely fine to be into a certian type of music but dont steal the fucking label that isnt for u then get MAADDD

sometimes i forget that fake goth elitists would call me a poser for listening 2 electronic/metal/experimental. etc like yeah im a hardcore trad goth and being goth is such a big part of my personality but there isnt a single part of being goth that says you have to listen to ONLY goth genres. cause goth as a whole isn't even a genre (tiktok goths on sewerslide watch) its literally a umbrella term for like 7 other music genres..... like come awn. goth is a umbrella term on its own, there are numerous fashions, genres and media/art within that word, not a onesize fits all

its funny 2 because its literally only ever like 14 year old kids saying this shit and being completely wrromnngnggg, there is so much misinformation about goth culture and history online ,again specifically tiktok, that people just spread around like wildfire instead of just.. reading or like... doing ur own fuckin research ???

its literally the dedication in being willing to educate yourself that contributes a lot to just…. being goth LMAO. plus again there is such a insane amount of misinformation on tiktok as a whole, you should fucking never be trusting social media like a search engine anyway

there isn't such thing as gatekeeping, one person online dosent prevent you from googling it on your own time. goths dont owe baby bats education on the culture, either you are goth or ur not . people will lose their mind over gatekeeping when there is literally no such thing anymore, pre social media culture, yes totally gatekeeping was a huge issue in the goth community but if you have acess to the internet then u have acess to all of the information you need. bitching and moaning in some persons comment section cause they dont wanna give u a makeup tutorial or for using a nongoth song is nuts

the random drama surrounding goth and its music 'laws' piss me off, the rules are just listen to gothic genres and kinda know what your talking about, at least dressing alternative/goth in some way or another, and engaging with your local scene/online groups etc... why are we gatekeeping about the WRONG thing yall.

okkaaay i have opinions on deftones because i hate social media music culture. just because a few kids were cringey and made some fake internet persona of a artist dosent make them a bad artist??? deftones has a rich musical impact and they aren't just "nu-metal" either. sure in the 2000's they toured with large nu-metal figures, worked with them and had a huge impact on nu-metal music but they should be seen and recognized by more then a skater band.

a lot of the art and meanings throughout their music is overlooked, many of their albums have different sounds and textures that people ignore :((( i personally have the same love for their earlier music as i do now, their sound has changed but its soooo good, they matured as a band so well.

they make great music that deserves to be treated like the art that it is. going mainstream only "ruins" a band if u let it
