Kuroo’s car pulled up to the curb slower than usual, like even the engine was bracing itself for the night ahead. Y/n stood outside the apartment building, wrapped in a soft cardigan, hands nervously gripping the straps of their bag.

When Kuroo stepped out, he looked… calm. A little bit too calm. “You’re smiling like we’re going to have a peaceful nice dinner,” Y/n muttered, slipping into the passenger seat. “We’re about to tell our parents we made a whole human.”

“Ready?” Kuroo asked, playfully. “No,” Y/N said bluntly.

“Too bad. I’ve got snacks and water bottles in the back seat. We’re locked in.”

The ride to Y/n’s parents’ house was quiet, except for the soft hum of the radio and the occasional deep breath from Y/n. They arrived ten minutes later. Y/n stared up at the front door like it was the gates of judgment. A part of her was scared her parents will see her as disappointment, but a part of her thanked God for the right decision they made by making Bokuto lived at the campus.

“I feel like I’m going to vomit,” y/n whispered. “I’ll catch it,” Kuroo said instantly, sounded serious. Y/n just wrinkled her nose and said “ew”. Kuroo couldn’t stop playing around as if his life wasn’t on the edge of a cliff.“But romantic, right?”, he continued. Y/n rolled her eyes, while squeezing his hand. “Let’s get this over with”

The living room was warm and familiar, but tense the moment they stepped in. Y/n’s mom had her arms crossed. Her dad was holding a mug like he was physically restraining himself from launching into a lecture.

Kuroo cleared his throat. “So, we uh .. have something to tell you and before you say anything, yes, it’s serious and yes, we’ve thought about it and no, we’re not joking.” He looked at Y/n, and their fingers intertwined. Deep inside they were both scared and they knew that.

“We’re having a baby.” The silence was instant and absolute. Y/n’s mom was shocked but she stayed silent, thinking it was a prank. Y/n’s mom blinked. “I’m sorry, what did you just say?” Y/n’s mom asked, not believing a single word that came out of their mouths. “A baby,” Y/n repeated softly. “I’m pregnant. And… we’re doing this. Together.”

Their dad stood up. “Together? After everything? After he—” Y/n’s was asked, shocked, speechless, confused. his emotions were mixed. he was one of the witness who saw the kind of state Y/n went through after the break up. “I know I messed up,” Kuroo cut in, voice steadier than Y/n expected. “But I’m not running this time. I’m here. I’m staying and I’m going to do everything I can to be a good father and partner.”

The room was still. The tension was thick. Then Y/n’s mom sighed. a heavy, sharp, but not unkind. “Well,” she said, arms loosening. “I always thought you two would end up back together. Just didn’t think it would be a buy 1 free 1 package.”

“You’re not… mad?” Y/N asked cautiously. “Oh, I’m mad but Im also buying a crib. So I guess that’s progress.” her mom replied, her face slightly softened.

“Remember this, don't let 1000 good deeds be forgotten because of 1 mistake.”

“I’m not ready to be a grandpa.”, her dad groaned.“You’ve got nine months to prepare, dad.” Kuroo continued, his lips were creating a smile.

That night, after too many questions, a lot of emotion, and one very unexpected hug from Y/n’s dad, they stepped back out into the night air. Kuroo opened the car door for her. “One down. Your parents survived. We survived.” Kuroo said softly. “You did good,” Y/n said quietly, resting her hand on her stomach. “We did better than good,” Kuroo replied, eyes softening. “We made it through the hard part. Everything else? We face it together.”

Y/n looked over at him. Tired, anxious, but with a spark of something warm in their chest.

“Together,” they echoed.

And this time, they meant it.
