ok why are so many people saying that tap isn’t important for a competition studio? tap is hella important when you’re claiming to have pre pro (what i’m assuming means pre professional) dancers. no, not all dance careers are onstage. a lot of dance careers are in filmed media. but a sizeable amount of dance jobs are on broadway or musical theatre stages, and a majority of dance heavy musicals and productions have tap. newsies, a chorus line, cats, anything goes, etc. all have tap. if you want to be a well rounded performer as far as dancing is concerned, you need to at least take tap throughout your training. tap, musical theatre, jazz, ballet, and hip hop are what comes to mind as the styles that stay employable for a long time. because the freaky lyrical contemporary stuff? it may well go out of style by the time your kids are out auditioning. you need to prepare your students for all styles, because if come 2025 the contemporary lyrical thing goes out of style, which it very well might, those styles are still gonna be on broadway. they have been for years and years and as long as revivals are a thing, they’re not going away.
