I post writing updates, personal thoughts & other random things that pop into my head. I watch a lot of TV, listen to audiobooks most of the time, and sometimes write fanfiction. I reblog fandom related things on a different blog. She/Her. Neurodivergent. Bisexual + Ace Spectrum. Mental health warrior.
Harvey Weinstein’s conviction being overturned is disgusting and sickening. It makes my blood boil.
Another trial because “women who were not part of the trial” gave testimonies? What bs reasoning is that. He’s been sexually assaulting and exhorting women for decades, and when women stand up to it, you have a court like this letting him off.
He is a heinous piece of shit.
You don’t need a new trial, you need to punish him for his crimes for the rest of his miserable life.
And we’re not even paid for it, we do it for fun! Expecting 3k+ word chapters every week on a regular schedule is again ridiculous, because fanfic authors have real life to deal with outside of all of this.
And don’t get me started on the “I like to read only completed fics” folks… sure, it’s you’re prerogative, but WIPs deserve love too, so don’t dissuade people who actually read WIPs from doing so.
And even if you’re reading a completed piece of work, leave a review! Tell the author so that they know their work from some twelve years back still gives people joy. It’s life affirming.
Fanfic tiktok is wild... I see so many people saying shit like "I could never read anything below 60k!!", or "What story can you even tell in under 5k words?" or "A oneshot below 10k isn't even a story!" or "I always filter completed fics by 100k< only!"
And I'm like...
A) which fandoms are you reading fics for where you have this kind of offerings on the regular?
B) have you heard of short stories? If you truly think every story NEEDS to be longform to connect with people, I sincerely feel sorry for you.
C) Average novel length is between 50k to 100k. I'm sorry, but CONSISTENTLY demanding fic writers to push out fics of that length is insane. Just think about it: YOU DEMAND AUTHORS TO PUT OUT FICS THAT COMPARE TO COMMERCIAL NOVELS IN LENGTH (AND QUALITY) AS A BASELINE.
“There’s a Japanese phrase that I like: koi no yokan. It doesn’t mean love at first sight. It’s closer to love at second sight. It’s the feeling when you meet someone that you’re going to fall in love with them. Maybe you don’t love them right away, but it’s inevitable that you will.”
