Grad603 Reflection statement:
For this paper which was Project B: Kinetic type. The aim was to gather different skills using Adobe After Effects to create an animation through the utilization principles of design. During the making process of this project, I was completely new to using Adobe After Effects as it was my first time ever using this certain suite.
Over the span of the project, i first started off by doing my research about the speech that was given to me, as well as the Speech speaker which was Helen Clark ( Ex-Prime Minister of New Zealand). I started looking at the course materials and watching the tutorials as well to help me grasp a better understanding on how to use After Effects. I mainly started off with the basics such as learning about keyframes, positioning the words and learning how to transition them.
For this project my goal was to achieve and create a simple yet experimental and serious type of animation that would be very conveying to watch. I believe that I have achieved this certain goal as I have gathered all the skills acquired to make this animation look simple yet serious at the same time.
I learnt many skills while creating my animation. Many of the skills that I've learnt over the course of this paper were basic skills, but it helped me get my kinetic type animation together. Some of these skills include:
transitions
speed/timing
synchronization
illustration transferring
audio syncing ( working with audio in general)
rotating text
transforming
opacity experimentation
keyframing and using frames
manipulating text
using 3D motion
Overall during the time that I had left to create an learn more about how to use Adobe After Effects, I am very happy and proud of the final outcome of my animation. I learnt a lot of new skills during this paper and it has been very helpful for me as I can use these certain skills for future references/projects..

Experimenting with rotating text:
here is a section that I really focused on during the creation process of my animation. I wanted to focus on the words that Helen Clark said which was "Police discretion around it". I wanted to make a rotational animation for the text.
So huge thanks to some inspiration that I found such as this youtuber named Sonduckfilms who does a lot tutorials around After effects.
He taught me how to create a 3D motion animation using certain tools and stuff. I also add my own spice to it by using the rotation transition to add a more impactful look.
Overall it turned out exactly how i wanted it to look, and i was happy with the final look of the animation.

Development: more transitioning between the words
I decided to go through my animation and focus on certain sections in which Helen Clarks word flow is quite fast. I decided to add more transitions on those certain parts of her speech. I wanted to add transitions that would look and make the words move from word to word more cleaner. This example above was mainly focused on panning the words in-between 2 texts and it turned out quite nice.

Font/text Size changing:

Thought id add some form of hierarchy by changing the sizes on some of my texts, this decision definitely improved the view of my kinetic type animation.

Adding in X and Y transitions...
While animating my texts, I was playing around and really experimenting with different transitions and animations. I stumbled upon the rotation transition and I played around with the X and Y rotation. I decided to use the X rotation transition, and just added my own spice to it by making the words swing back and forth as if it looked like a hanging sign. Overall this was my favourite transition during the whole working process side of things.

Focused more on panning transitions aswell as opacity transitions:

For this section of my animation, I wanted to mainly focus on capturing the words that Helen Clark was saying. So I decided to animate the word 'Chasing' as convert it into an actual illustration to look like someone was getting chased by the justice and law.
I created the illustration on photoshop using the line, brush and shape tool to create the stick figure. Overall i was happy with the word illustration.
I also focused on using the opacity transition more as it really complimented most of the words that Helen was saying.

Transitions:
Here are a few transitions that I added and experimented with, most of these effects and transitions were hard to add and create as they required a lot of time to make and add. Some were easy like the scaling and positioning of the text, while some were hard to use like the rotation transition, where I had to use the X and Y axis to adjust and decrease the value of how far i wanted the text to rotate.

Substitute Music audio:
Due to copyright reasons, i had to substitute and find another audio to use for my animation, I tried to go with a smilar genre to my previous audio, and stumbled upon FMA(FreeMusicArchive) which provides free audio to use, without having to worry about copyright issues. I found this track called Despair by Goratie, and i thought it really went well with my speech topic, with the audio complimenting Helen Clarks speech on Cannabis legalisation...

Here is my current progress of my kinetic type animation, Im currently happy with its state, and i have worked on trying to time it with Helen Clarks speech...
my next few goals that I want to achieve is making the transitions of the text more cleaner and smoother, and also add more changes within my animation such as adding more motions blurs, positionings, scale, panning transitions with the frames, wordplay, add more opacity to give the words more depth and many more key aspects to add/change...
Once im finished with all the finishing touches, I will focus on adding a end to my animation and add credits..

Colour for my Kinetic Type:
for my kinetic type animation, I decided to only go with 2 colours which is Green and black( might change the background black to a dark grey).
I chose green because my speech that was given to me talked about the legalisation of Cannabis, So i thought it would be suitable to go for that colour.
I left Black as my background to make the words stand out more, and to also help with complimenting the green text.
I might add some transitioning of background within my animation, such as switching both colours, making the green as my background and the text black(or dark grey) and see how it functions...

Working with images and animating them..
within my kinetic animation, I want to add certain images for certain key words such as time, focus, justice, chasing, or any other descriptive words that are within Helen Clarks speech and make the words have more meaning to them..

Font: TW cen MT condensed extra BOLD
I decided to go with this font for my kinetic type animation because I wanted to a have bold font, since my talker Helen Clark was talking about a very serious matter in the legalisation of Cannabis, so i thought that having a bold font would really compliment the animation...
