"I know what I want to be!"
Hasn't he been saying it? Hasn't he been working and training and living it? It's been the only thing he's ever wanted!
The doorway is open behind him. A few more steps and he'll be free to run. He's got a bag always packed in his room.
"I don't want you to kill him! I don't want a new name!"
Pst...grant
....get dai to sign this paper and you'll have a place you can live and train when ever you want, and never have to worry about anything, not money not food
(A page of some sort of contract ..it looks basic, an adoption of sorts)
Grant, despite being mine, knows his contracts. Slade made sure his kid could recognize loopholes and legalities from a young age.
"Hn. No way! I'm not going to freaking traffic myself when I've got a good thing going here!"
"Besides, I don't think @gothidaii has any legal rights over me, either. He just kinda kidnapped me. It's probably the most badass thing he's ever done. Now I just stick around to protect him."

This is...big. This feels like a lot and too much and Grant had already said no. This isn't what he wants.
He jerks back out of Beau's grasp, out of range and balls up the contact before throwing it at the Fae, seething scared.
"Don't make promises for me! I said that I'd do it! I'll kill him! You don't get to butt into my business and make decisions about what I want! You don't get to do that!"
Grant's been backing away, face red with anger. The moment he reaches the door he'll be running for his room.

"W-What? No! My mom and my brother are still there. Don't do anything with nukes, they're really bad. And I'm gonna kill Slade myself when I get strong enough!"
Grant is weirdly touched by the offer, but it seems out of proportion to people believing that Slade is a big hero. Everyone wants to believe the best soldier in the world to be a good person, right?
"It's not like I'm a good person anyway. I'm rotten."
He doesn't say it as a way to engineer sympathy or even as if he's ashamed. He says it like a statement of fact.
The sky is blue.
The earth is round.
And Grant Wilson
Is
Rotten.

Grant hands the paperwork back towards Beau, as if keeping it for too long would mean someone owns him.
"Everybody, back home. It doesn't matter. I'm not gonna give anybody control over me like Slade did."

Grant digs his metaphorical feet in; legally belonging to a family, even a weird one like this where mistakes and rudeness aren't corrected with extreme prejudice, reminds him too much of people letting Slade take him home, or disciplining him outright.
"No way, Beau! Nobody's going to be in charge of me like that!"
"And I'm not adorable! I'm tough! I'm a shitty, mean, rotten little jerk! Everyone in this house is weird..."

The kid looks up with a squinting glare and follows the path of the stranger with barely hidden hostility. His blue eyes flick to the jacket once, sharply, before returning to the nurse holding it.
Grant wants to grab the jacket and book it, but he can't do that until he's sure of his exit route. And until he loses this IV. And figures out where his grapple gun is, he really doesn't want to lose the gift that Deathstroke gave him!
Sitting up in the bed, he clears his throat, wincing at the rasp. He'd gotten covered in blown-up-building dust and had breathed a lot of it in. Apparently, that's another thing for the nurses to worry about.
"That's mine. You didn't go through it, did you?"
Grant points to the jacket and tries to sound as dangerous as possible. At least the gravel in his throat helps him sound tougher! (He sounds more like Slade and he hates it) If the nurses here found his Blooms hood and recognized it, he could be in even bigger trouble. He's pretty sure the gang has a plant here, but he can't think well enough to remember specifics.
So. SO. There may have been consequences to someone leaving a grappling gun on a roof for a child to find.
For a specific child to find.
Soldier (because that's his name when he's out on the streets), thinks he did pretty darn okay with his first grappling practice. He'd been a little clumsy, sure, but he'd figured most of it out before dawn that day. He'd even used it to get off the building he was on.
Honestly, really, actually, the fact that it took four days of using the gun every chance he got before something went wrong is proof of his skills. It hadn't even been his fault! He'd been practicing his swinging from some of the lower buildings in the warehouse area when one of them -the one his grapple had been tethered to- blew up.
It wasn't his fault!
So now he's in a busy ER, because apparently he's been knocked out and someone had brought him in when he was unconscious. And he really needs to get out before anyone looks too long at him.
And he also needs to find his stuff. Soldier had heard a coupla nurses talking about his jacket (with all its goodies) and his grapple gun; apparently they think he might be Robin or something and weren't sure whether to let the hospital officers get ahold of it all.
His head hurts...
But he has the biggest mission of his life to complete!
(( @grantagonist ))
"Just... put the jacket down. I'll talk to him. He probably has an explaination," Caspian says casually, hardly reassuring his coworkers who are still wondering why the hell a kid has all this stuff.
Sure, the potential of it being Robin does intrigue him... but he's more concerned with making sure the kid doesn't have serious brain damage first. In fairness, if the kid was Robin, the chance of potential brain injury (among other injuries) goes up a serious amount. It's this moment where Caspian begins to question the ethicallity of child vigilantes.
Without giving his coworkers room to protest, Caspian takes the jacket and makes his way over to the room the boy was in. He decides to give a polite knock against the frame of the entrance while standing in the doorway, figuring that he'd probably appreciate it if he's conscious.
"Hey. I'm coming in."
With that, Caspian approaches with the jacket in hand, pulling up a seat to sit to the side of the bed. No reason to stand over the kid and interrogate him. He's trying to make this chat as non-intimidating as possible.

"Strong soldiers don't cry. Crying is manipulative."
Grant says them, but they aren't his words.
"This place is so weird to me... Even my bosses at the Poison Blooms try to check in on me and get me to act like a little kid."
Am I pretty?

Grant crosses his arms over his chest with a huff. "Just a friend, huh? Can he fight? Where's his house?"
Little brother would like to investigate!
"What are his social media names?"
Grant will bully every Azael on the Internet if he has to!
I spend more time in azaels house than the manor atp

Grant glances back at Artem, still always a little surprised to have adults around who listen to him and don't treat him like an idiot.
He nods again, firm
"I will."
A short blue haired adult arrives to the manors kitchen when Grant is there, they startle slightly when they realize they do not in fact recognize the kid before them
“oh did Beau adopt another one…? Usually they’re really good at telling me when we adopt new kids..”
( @gothamghostwhispers )
Grant doesn't startle - he'd heard the person's approach because no one really walks as quietly as he does - but he eyes the adult with a healthy level of caution. A healthy level for a Gotham kid, anyway.
"The bug fairy guy? I'm not one of his kids. Dai's the one that brought me in here."
He's at the table, sitting criss-cross on a chair as he eats a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Where other kids might have left utensils and jars out, Grant is unusual in how little mess he leaves. If he were to vanish this very moment, there would only be a few crumbs left behind.
"Who're you? Another fairy person?"

"Peter's the guy on the ceiling sometimes, right?"
Grant sweeps his crumbs into his hand - he doesn't use plates unless absolutely necessary. He gets up to dispose of them in the trash bin.
"Thanks, Artem. That's good to know. I didn't want to leave yet, but someday...I got some people to go get."
He walks like a soldier, like a killer. His little face is determined.

"This place is really weird."
Grant finishes his sandwich as he shares a comfortable silence with Artem. He has a lot to consider and worry about when it comes to magic; he'd have to trust the magic user to be honest with what they're doing.
"Could this place spawn something super specific if I wanted it enough? Like a way to go back and forth from my old world?"

Grant looks thoughtful as he thinks the invitation over.
"I didn't realize we had capes in the house. This is neutral territory, right? Beau made it sound like he was kinda a villain type, but that don't mean much in this City."
He finally nods and shrugs.
"Sure, I'll stop by sometime, see what people can do. I can always use more training and teach the youngun's how to kick ass. Is there a gun range hidden in this place? I've been using someone else's since I haven't gotten my own firearms yet."

"Hm."
He nods, mouth too full of peanut butter to articulate. Grant supposes that there's a sort of sense to that arrangement. Like Beau's biologically-based fairiness works as a catalyst for his spouse since they're bound by marriage. From what he'd read, fairies are big into contacts, deals, oaths, and binding pledges.
Beau had said this Manor was protected, including everyone inside it. Including Grant.
"I'm called Grant. I'm not a meta or anything magic, I'm a great fighter. I can take down a fully grown adult like that."
He snaps his fingers, bragging with earned confidence. Finding out that his "shitty, subpar skills" still made him better than most henchmen had been a pleasant surprise. And it means that Slade is just that much better than him. For now.

The boy makes a small noise of interest as he watches the magic at work. He's still wary of it, as it's not something he understands the way he does a gun or a business deal. There's a part of him that's very interested in the potential of using such abilities, weaponizing them, but there is also a sense of disdain for how they could become a crutch.
Under the analyzing mind his father had trained into him is a little boy's brain, though. And he just thinks that it's kinda cool.
"Some of the working girls called their clients patrons when they wanted to be fancy. Or when they were talking to me and thought I didn't know what sex was. Do you get magic cuz you're married to Beau?"
It might be cool, but he doesn't think he wants to do anything like that as the asking price. He'll stick to guns.
"You got something I should call ya?"
After meeting Beau and feeling dumb for not understanding the guy's references, Grant had done research at the Gotham Library. It turns out, fairies have a lot of rules, and some of them are predatory. He's out of luck hiding his first name in this Manor, too. That's one form of protection down.
