I hate this with all my heart, the drawing example, and the thing I'm about to whine about >:( I'm not one to talk about problems, but I'm really annoyed with how normalized this is

is it not a big deal???? Because I disagree.

It's not just about Eddie and Wally and stuff, but I'm using him as an example. So many fictional men who are simply existing are turned into buff tall gigachad men, AND IT'S BODY SHAMEING!?! Their changing them to make them look "better," obviously implying their not perfect enough as they are. It's frustrating! if people did this kinda stuff to more soft female characters. They would have people pointing it out, but I never see that with male characters? It's a huge problem, and nobody really seems to care? I'm sorry it just gets under my skin. If you're changing a fluffy character to be a buff "perfect" man then you never liked the character for who he was in the first place.

I haven't talked about Welcome Home on tumblr for a while (been busy with college and processing the holiday update) and while I want to go into all the stuff I found neat (and little observations and theories I've thought of), I've had this little headcannon plus scenario about Wally

Wally is like the resident advice giver, but he only really gives advice when no one expects him to, possibly when he feels it's right to.

Like Frank is lamenting to Wally (seems like something he would do a lot) and tells him how he wishes there were more people in the neighborhood who where observant and smart like him. Really what he means is he wants more grouches, but Wally can see right through him.

So while Wally is painting and Frank is lamenting, he says, "Oh, you probably don't even know what I'm talking about." Wally stops painting and gives him his words of wisdom.

"Sometimes people want others to be like them. But there's a reason why we're all different. We all need something different to be. I would hate for everyone to be like me."

Frank raises his eyebrow and says "What do you mean?"

Wally takes his palette and paints little shapes on the canvas. Each one is a different color and shape and they all represent the neighbors. Frank recognized a yellow rectangle as himself.

"We're all different shapes, colors, creatures, but what really makes us unique is our purposes. We all have a different one." He recites this next part like he's reciting a poem:

Barnaby is Boisterous,

Howdy is Helpful,

Julie is Joyful,

Sally's a Star,

Eddie is Ever-so Everywhere,

Poppy is Pretty Petrified,

And you Frank? You're frank, and that's what makes you you

Frank thinks to himself. Wally's right. He's Frank, brutally honest and smart Frank, and no one else could be like him. But now he had something else to ask. "But what's your purpose, Wally?"

"My purpose? Ha. Ha. ha. I'm Wonderfully Wally. And I wouldn't want to be anyone else. Not for my Humble Home." He turns back to the canvas and continues to paint. It seems like now he's making little details on the shapes.

Frank turns to leave and before he does, he looks back at Wally, realizing he's more Wise than he thought.

Just a little discussion. Also sort of based on the theory that the neighbors have a certain purpose they have to fulfill in the show

OKAY LISTENING TO THE JUST SO DEMO IT'S THEORY TIME

Is Wally... mad at Frank? Warning for long post!

I'm biased. I'm biased, I love Wally, I'm a simp, I could just be misconstruing the fact that Wally's voice is lower in this demo as veiled aggresion, or scolding- it could also just be a choice his actor made. Wally's voice is much lighter and higher pitched in recent audio, so it could have just been a choice, or a tone change- here's me reading into things that probably aren't important-

Way earlier in one other theory post I said there's a discrepancy in the audio not translating to the transcripts, and changing the context of what was said, bear with me.

Wally says, I reiterate, that he doesn't mind Frank reordering his crayons, but in the transcript, he says Frank steals his crayons. This recontextualises this sentence into almost passive aggression.

Bear with me! I'm getting there!

Wally's such a sweet fella with a lovely flat voice- this is a reference to his autism. He has a very flat, monotonous voice. But we can still tell when he's emoting! We can judge by his voice if he's happy, or spacing out- or upset, poor honey...

think of how he laughs in the live interview with Rick, before he realises that interviewer was not flirting with him, but being condescending. Instead of a spaced out, breathy laugh, Wally is actually chuckling, and he sounds really natural and comfortable in this setting.

In the Homewarming storybook, we can really hear Wally's sadness... he's so dejected, feeling hopeless, and frustrated that he can't communicate properly with Barnaby or understand or articulate how he's feeling. Little sighs, a shift in tone. Brilliant acting on Frankie's part. (He is just- I'm not normal about Frankie's talent. Insane.)

But Wally's voice is decidely lower when he's focused and concentrating, or being serious-

remember the first phone call? Uhh I'm not remembering right about where it was, but- maybe So Below page? Wally sounds serious there. "You have work to do." He's instructing us, yeah. He's getting frustrated in the secret audios from his doodles, at your lack of response- and his voice warps when he's desperate, begging for you to let him in.

Okay, maybe I'm rambling.

Int the Just So demo, Wally randomly enters a conversation between Frank and Julie to ask if Home can play croquet with them. Frank answers yes. Afterwards, Wally has no response, and I'm assuming he's just staring and standing quietly.

Frank is very flustered and annoyed by his interupption of his little tangent, and has to stop and explain to Wally what he means by Just So- he's trying to be patient with Wally, so he will just go away already-

Frank explains that it's like how crayons go in an order in their box.

Wally responds, "do they?" In an odd tone- do they?

Frank lists the colours, and he's singing, very sure of himself, "Orange yellow green and blue-"

AND WALLY INTERJECTS AGAIN, THE AUDIO WARBLING-

"-And purple?"

OKAY OKAY

Purple is associated with Eddie, Frank's love interest! It's his favourite colour, and pointed out by some users and plain to see- the least used colour in Home. Purple is almost nowhere, except on Eddie. (This is also on Latter Pillar, who hilariously also probably has some significance in coming chapters, or his dialogue will.)

Frank sings,

I like it best,

When red goes in front of the rest,

And this could be in reference to Wally. Red is his favourite colour, shared with Home. And he says something about all the colours staying inside the box, or something.

Is Wally trying to call out Frank about something to do with Eddie? He actually sounds a little pissed off. Maybe he's trying to deliver a warning. Or chastising Frank for not being open about his relationship. I personally don't know if Wally would be working to silence their romance, because he's an instigator of chaos- Wally actively goes against the script, and is definitely one of the queers himself, flirting with Rick on live TV.

I like to believe he's scolding Frank about wanting to keep things the way they are, as the Neighbourhood clearly needs to change.

He'd like to understand why Frank chooses to be complacent in his subjugation by his creators, when they try to repress and deny Frank and Eddie's romance. He might be saying, hey man, stand up for yourself, if not for Eddie.

Frank is expressing frustration as to why Wally can't just be complacent too, and take his place as the lead of the show and do as he's told.
