Daniel really wasnât sure what to make of everything Mac was offering up, so he just smiled and sat down rather than commenting on the roses. He was a little curious if come opening night she would actually be there with roses in tow. That would probably depend on whether or not they saw each other with any regularity after this, he supposed. Either way, the thought was totally derailed at Macâs answer. âIâm sorry - they throw their bras?â he verified, not entirely sure heâd heard right but also not sure what else she might have said. âIâve never heard of that happening. Iâm glad youâre alright, though - wouldâve been a shame if the braâd done any lasting damage.â Of course someone arrived at just that moment to take their orders.
His reaction made Mac chuckle, honestly the bras was one of the more tame things that happened to her. She wasnât sure most people would be able to handle the more extreme stuff though. âYeah, I thought about just publicly announcing my size at one point so I donât ever have to bother getting my own, but I think thatâd take the fun out of it.â She made quick of ordering an inhuman amount of shots of whatever they had, and motioned over towards Daniel. âIâm serious about getting whatever. My pockets run deep my dude. Actually while weâre at it, can we get something to snack on? Just to be safe.â It was more of a precaution for Daniel, she wasnât some irresponsible jerk who would send someone home on an empty stomach after drinking.

Eve couldnât stop the smile that spread over her whole face as Max talked about her success, âIâm so happy for you.â She said, clapping her hands together. She loved to see others succeed, it was like getting a contact high. âHey, if it keeps you here, then fucking going for it. Iâm happy youâve stuck around as long as you have.â She teased. But hearing her sister call her queen of classy fashion she rolled her eyes shaking her head. âI will happily do so if you want me to, but if youâre comfortable with your style â Iâm not gonna judge you.â She said with a flippant wave of her hand. Eveleen shook her head as she laughed settling back down in her seat. âI swear father didnât distribute powers evenly at all. But honestly, the hangovers are no fucking fun, Iâd rather not experience any of it.â She said, âIâd trade if I could.â She really hated hangovers, but that might also be because it took â well practically a barrel of whiskey to get her drunk so they were uh â not good on her body. Eve felt her body get tense as Mac wanted her to promise. She couldnât â she could? She - honestly it was complicated. âI wish it was that easy Mac. To just toss my mum outta my life and never break up with Harley. I donât want to ever do that butâŠ.â She sighed, sinking her head into her hands. âMy mom controls my money, she controls my career. I canât â I canât put a toe out of line or sheâll take the trust fund, all my contacts and all of my supplies. I will be left with nothing if Iâm not stupidly careful.â She sunk further into her chair. âSheâd take it all until I did what she wanted, it wouldnât be the first time. Iâm â one of the faces of the company, I have an image I have to keep or damned it all apparently.â Her voice broke as she gave voice to the weight she carried on her shoulders on a daily basis. She had â not really told many people what sort of weight she carried or the threats her mother levied over her. It was sort of a relief to tell someone.
âListen. I love my clothes, I just need someone whoâs good at picking stuff out thatâs appropriate for more fancy shit. Canât exactly wear a I love milfs tee shirt to a black tie event.â Hell, the reason she was late for the masquerade and missed most of the drama was because she had to get a last minute outfit. âMaybe if we ask nice dad can let us do tradesies, just for a day. I donât think that would hurt anyone.â Mac could feel the mood in the room drop as Eve went on about her mother. No one who controls their kid like that deserves to be a parent, especially for her age. âThatâs a bunch of bullshit, you know what-â A sudden lightbulb lit up in her head, an Mac confidently wrapped an arm around her sisters shoulders for comfort. â-Iâm pretty sure I can grab connections for you, and provide the funds to start a business. Iâm serious. Fuck her. You have plenty of talent to make a name for yourself instead of working under hers.â She was sacrificing so much for a woman who was only using her, and Mac wasnât about to let that slide. â I want to invest in your happiness. Please let me do this for you. Youâll never be living for yourself if you have to keep putting on an act to fit someone elseâs narrative.â There was a pleading look in her eyes as she reached out to hold onto her sisters hand. Being able to let Eve live her life more carefree was important to Mac, and even if her offer was rejected, she would still try to find a way to help out. That is what true family is supposed to do after all, try with all their power to protect one another.Â

âNot a saying I generally go with, but why not.â Rye shrugged. If this chick didnât drug her drink or something she would call it a win. âVodka then, highest proof they got.â She nodded at the bartender. âRye.â
Mac pointed some fake finger guns at the blonde with a charming smile. âThatâs the spirit! Everyone should strive to try something new once in a while.â She nodded and was able to get some of the strongest vodka available, making sure to do a little toast before downing the first shot. âTo new friends?âÂ

Daniel was starting to get the sense that Mac was just a very generous sort of person. âReally? Thatâd be cool - only if youâve got a ticket to spare though, of course.â He wasnât really sure if heâd be up for an EDM festival if it were to happen right now, but the fact that there was evidently no tour currently in the works made it easier to agree to. If it ever did come to pass, it was likely that enough time would have elapsed that the idea of so many people in one place would no longer be a concern. âThere is a show coming up, but Iâm afraid itâs not Shakespeare,â he answered, chuckling at the prospect of the theater putting on a performance that involved reciting Shakespeare whilst pirouetting. âAre you familiar with Hairspray? Iâm auditioning for Link - who does have a line about Romeo and Juliet, come to think of it.â Not that a reference to Shakespeare was the same as performing Shakespeare, but a tangential connection was still a connection. He followed her into the tavern, sitting down at the chair sheâd gestured to as he considered her question. âOne time in uni, we did a show where I needed a fake moustache. I never had any trouble with it in rehearsals, but on opening night it was like it would not stay attached to my face - I reckon I had to put it back on three different times in one scene? I fixed it the second I was offstage of course, but then it got stuck and was a nightmare to get off.â The memory was old enough now that it wasnât too embarrassing, but it certainly had been mortifying at the time. âWhat about you? Any notable onstage mishaps?âÂ
âPffft, I have plenty of tickets to spare. I could get a ticket for you any like ten friends no problem if I really wanted to.â Mac was a humble bragger, meaning she mainly did so when she felt she could use her status to make sure other people had a good time. She would probably forget about getting Daniel a ticket later, but it was the thought that counted. Hell, at this point she would probably owe the entire island free tickets to her next tour with how social she was. âOhhhh Hairspray! Love it. Iâll make sure to come with roses opening night just for you.â She winked playfully, and then motioned for someone to come over to take their drink orders before answering his question. âOh man, I mean besides accidentally fucking up my track while live? I mean chicks like to throw their bras on stage a lot for some reason. Apparently thatâs a common occurrence for music performers. One flung right at me right in the face once and I had to take a second to recover. Was pretty awesome and embarrassing at the same time.â

Drinks for the whole night sounded a bit different from the outing heâd originally agreed to, which added to the growing sense that any control he might have had over the evening had at this point been fully rescinded to Mac. On the bright side, she seemed mostly harmless - though he did find himself wondering if beer would be alright if it wasnât watered down. âErm - I havenât been to an EDM festival, no, but that sounds cool,â he answered first, genuinely impressed. At her next question he found himself briefly trying to imagine himself as a very serious businessman and failing utterly. âDefinitely a fan of the stage and arts,â he confirmed instead. âIâm a dancer, and an actor.â There was perhaps a time when actor might have been listed first, but at this point it had been years since heâd been in a real show.
âItâs very cool. If I go on tour again Iâll see if I can get you vip tickets. Thatâs the best kind of experience there is for concerts.â She gave Daniel a flirty wink and picked up the pace towards Elysium. Anyone who spent their time dedicated to the stage was great in Macâs book, and confirmed that she absolutely wanted to get to know this man more. âSick, have you been in any shows at deadpan theater yet? Or at least any upcoming ones that I should look out for so I can bring you roses and watch you absolutely kill it reciting like, Shakespeare while in the middle of a pirouette.â As they neared Elysium Mac did the honors of finding them a good place to sit, and motioned for him to take a chair before sitting down herself. âHave you ever done something super embarrassing while on stage? More horrible than something small like tripping yourself.â

âI mean but do you?â Eve laughed, unable to stop looking for ways to make money. There was a small nugget of fear in the back of her mind that made her worry about money and where it was coming from despite what she did and what she had. Stupid anxiety. âNah, why would I snitch?â she grinned, âItâs a good present.â She picked up some sunglasses, looked them over then tossed them back into the box without a second glance. They werenât bad but they also werenât wonderful. Meh. âHun, my mother runs a fashion magazine, and I make clothes. Iâm always dressed well.â She smirked playfully, and dramatically flipped her hair. She glanced back to the baggie she had set on the table and shrugged her shoulders. âI guess I technically could, the pill still messes with me a bit, the wine no. Liquor only a tiny bit.â She ran a hand through brown tresses and gave a happy sigh as she smiled. âYeah, cute blonde, goofy as hell, swear sheâs actually a golden retriever.â She snickered, shaking her head, âYeah, fine, I mean, Iâm not settling at all, Harley is ââ She paused, âwonderful. Honestly. Best person in the world, hell sheâs my best friend.â Eve looked at the pills one looked like â is that a sugar pill? Pfft. Stupid ravers. âItâs just â Yanno the whole mommy issues? Yeah I got some of those I guess. Mom basically will disown me if Iâm in a relationship and anyone outside of like â my family ever knows.â She sunk into a chair and shrugged, âMakes shit hard.â
âNot to flex or anything but I think my album sales are doing a good job being a cushion for the life of luxury right now. The two jobs here are just so I try to put down roots and donât dip off this island after getting bored for a few weeks.â Mac had a habit of being flighty when she tried to settle. Moving from home to home and then concert to concert later on in life made her uncomfortable with sticking to one place for long. There was never anywhere she could genuinely call home, she was only giving Icaria the chance because their old man asked her to, and finding out she actually had family here also helped immensely. âRight, youâre the queen of classy fashion. I feel like I should have you go through my closet one day and just tear that shit apart because I know there are some... horrible life choices in there.â Lots of neon for sure, which was great for raves but every day life? Not so much. âWhat the fuck, Iâm calling up dad and complaining. Iâm really getting the short end of the stick with my powers. Just one time I want to know the true experience of a smoke sesh without having to rely on everyone else's vibes dude.â Mac sat up as her sister talked on about her girlfriend, and couldnât help but scoff at the mention of Eveâs mother. âClearly this chick makes you happy with all the gushing youâre doing over her, your mom can go fuck herself. Sheâs a garbage parent if she is tryna control your love life. You gotta promise me youâll never break up with Harley because of her now. Pinky promise me Eve câmon.â

âI want to try to combine everything on tap at a bar into one mega-drink. Iâve done it with all of the sodas in a fountain before, but thatâs self-serve. This seems more ambitious somehow,â Yona said, tilting her head to one side thoughtfully as she scanned a map of Icaria on her phone. She then addressed Mac, hoping that she sounded awesome, cool, chill⊠all the good words. âItâs about finding somewhere willing to indulge me. Do you think Elysiumâs my best bet? And are you game?â
âDo ittttt, sounds like a completely wicked idea. I absolutely want to know what all the different types of drinks on tap taste in one cup. Maybe itâll like, open up your third eye and turn you into some hipster. Itâll be a super anti-climactic werewolf change where you become condescending, start wearing flannels, beanies, and thick ass framed glasses instead though.â Mac was always for pursuing ideas that we incredibly stupid, and between Yona and her their brains could come up with plenty. âElysiumâs tacky enough to let you do it, honestly any place will let you do anything if you pay enough. You donât have to ask me twice, Iâll go ahead and drink the frankendrink with you. This is clearly very important research.âÂ

Flirtatious women always made Cole smile. He was a friendly guy, so having that playful banter was always enjoyable for him. As long as he wasnât made to feel uncomfortable, he usually had a grand time with it. âAs am I, little lady,â he replied kindly. âItâs no trouble at all,â he promised as he put in his order for the house blend black and paid for both of their beverages. âItâs not the price of the gesture, but the thought behind it. At least, thatâs how I like to look at things. I am gonna ask ya for somethinâ else though. Can I get your name? Iâm Cole Daniels.â
Mac decided that if she didnât have this mans phone number by the time she left the building she would mentally be kicking herself in the ass the rest of the day. Look at him being his sultry simple country man self and getting a black coffee while she was getting a hot chocolate with whipped cream and chocolate syrup on top, this was turning very much into a hallmark cliche moment that she needed to pull herself out of stat before she ended up in some two story home in Mississippi with two kids. âCole Daniels, of course you can have my name. Hell Iâd give you my address and social security number if you asked at this point.â She held her hand out to him with a tilt of her head and sweet smile. âItâs Mac. Mac Stevenson.â

Macâs very enthusiastic reaction was a little surprising, but who was Daniel to judge her for having such a vibrant outlook on life? The use of no less than three different names for him in as many seconds was mildly jarring, but he was still relatively certain that he hadnât made a bad decision just now. âErm, Elysium sounds good,â he replied, relieved that there had been one low key option among the suggestions - there was nothing wrong with Supernova for a special occasion of course, but he would have felt rather odd about going with someone heâd only just met. And it was even more of a relief that Nightshade seemed to be off the table entirely - heâd enjoyed the place before his disappearance, but he was still working his way up to being comfortable with nightclubs again since returning. One thing Mac had to say about the place did catch his interest, though. âBig crowds?â he asked, intrigued. âAre you a performer?âÂ
âElysium it is! Drinks on me the whole night bucko so get whatever the hell you like. Iâm talking top shelf type shit alright? Donât be a wimp who just gets watered down beer.â Mac pointed finger guns at the poor dude, and walked ahead of him only to stop in her tracks and swerve back around with a massive grin on her face. âSure, I guess you could say Iâm a performer. Been to the east to the west coast of the US of A, uhhh shit ton of other countries too. I DJ and make my own music, you ever been to an EDM festival? I do that kinda stuff usually.â Mac caught herself rambling about herself and made a note to finally stop, and attempted to open the floor back over to her company. âWhat about you? Fan of the stage and arts? Or are you a very serious business man?â

Rye was not quite the partier that Rue was, but she enjoyed spending time at Elysium since it was relatively quiet. She liked to drink. It wasnât as much fun as smoking or pills, but it was good enough. She didnât socialize much though and was surprised by the girl sliding into the seat next to her. Ryeâs eyebrow quirked up. âYouâre betting on shots with a stranger?â She said, mildly surprised. âI mean sure, why not. Iâve got nothing better to do.â She had a pretty decent alcohol tolerance.
âYou know what they say, a strangerâs just a friend you havenât met yet. Pretty sure I heard that from a simpsons episode, so iâll give them credit for it.â Macâs hand went up to get the bartenders attention, and then gave the blonde next to her a wink. â Why donât you pick the poison for this round. Donât worry if itâs expensive either, I can cover any drink at this bar.â She had been to bars at festivals with top shelf bottles five times more expensive than whatever this place had, so nothing would make a dent in her pockets. âIâm Mac by the way, might as well get formality out of the way before getting sloshed.âÂ

She smiled, shaking her head at her sister. âOh Iâm sure between the two of us and our escapades we could easily come up with quite a few runway outfits.â Eve said, pretending she had a camera to take photos of Mac. Eve glanced at the watch and made an impressed face. âMight have been shit in bed, but thatâs a nice watch, it can fetch a pretty penny if you ever sell it.â She noted. âBut yeah â us trust fund kids.â She rolled her eyes, âWell, some of them, are the laziest pieces of shit iâve ever met.â Eve never understood the idea of not working; her mother had instilled it into her from such a young age it just seemed incomparably stupid. âIâm not surprised a trust fund brat of a boy didnât do the work.â She was rummaging through the box when Mac complimented her âYouâre to sweet Mac, but you know the same can be said about you right?â She asked looking up at the younger woman. âAs for the jacket â It looks like itâd fit you fine too. You sure you donât want it?â She asked as she stuck her hand in the pocket, she wasnât gonna keep the jacket if her sister liked it, but now she was curious about what was in the pockets. She pulled out a small baggie of pills and raised her eyebrows. âAny idea?â she asked with a laugh. At the mention of love life she chuckled. âGirlfriend, remember? Harley?â she finished, âThings have been â fine.â She shrugged. âNothing crazy or entertaining to report. Not like when I was single and it was a different girl every night.â She paused and slipped off the jacket tossing it onto the table before pulling out a pair of glasses and putting them on. âHow the hell are you going through a dry spell though? Like â look at you! Youâre stunning!â
Mac did a last once over of the watch before tossing it back into the bin with a shrug. âEh, I could sell it but I already have like, enough money already. Maybe Iâll keep it around to regift. Donât snitch on me if I do though.â Going from nothing to a niche fame actually made Mac uncomfortable with the amount of numbers in her bank account. It was why she spent it on anyone she met so much, and ended up getting things that werenât necessarily expensive but items she couldnât have when she was in the foster care system. âI know Iâm hot as hell, just wanna make sure my sister is recognized for her beauty too is all.â Humility was never Macâs forte, why bother pretending to be mediocre when you know youâre amazing? A chuckle left her at the sight of the little baggie, rave pills were always a mystery though so she wasnât too sure what any of it could be. âDude there are so many things those pills could be, though I pop any of those I still wonât know since it does nothing to me.â As clueless and slow as the daughter of Dionysus acted sometimes, her only high came secondhand. It was really the biggest con of her powers. There was a long pause at the mention of the name Harley, and finally a long oooohhhhh as her memory clicked. âThe cute blonde...right? What do you mean just fine? Thereâs no way youâre settling with this chick just for things to be fine.â She sighed and laid back into her couch with a frown. âI know I know, itâs just hard too hit it and quit it on this damn island. Thereâs so many technicalities, and like mommy or daddy issues here that Iâm not about you feel? Donât even get me started on the commitment bullshit.âÂ

âItâs nice to meet you, Mac. Iâm Daniel,â Daniel introduced, shaking her hand and internally heaving a sigh of relief that his answers had been satisfactory enough and hadnât prompted an extended line of questioning. The invitation for drinks caught him a little off guard, if only because it was a bit whiplash-inducing the way it had followed this woman basically appearing out of nowhere and hitting him with an array of disparate questions. He wasnât entirely sure what it was about his vibe that made her want to find out more, but decided it was probably harmless. âSure, I could go for a drink,â he agreed. âWhere did you have in mind?â
Mac clasped her hands together in excitement, her favorite thing to do was drag strangers along on her weird adventures and this guy pretty much agreed to a full trip. âDaniel, Danny, Dannnnn my new pal where we go all depends on what kind of party scene youâre into! We could be fancy and go to Supernova where I can get us a deal since Iâm related to the owner. Are you a classy kinda guy?â Before he could answer Mac continued to ramble off their other options. âOr we can go somewhere more lowkey like Elysium, theyâre kinda cheap but itâs still a nice hang spot. If you reallllyyy want to party and get your adrenalline running Nightshade is always the go to, though it might be to early to hop on over there. Iâm not even sure if Iâm working there tonight so letâs just scratch that all together. Gotta save up my energy for the big crowds yâknow?â

âErmââ Daniel stalled, not fully sure how to go about answering all of these questions, where they were coming from, or why this woman seemed so incredibly serious about all of this. She didnât seem to be making fun of him at least, so he felt he owed it to her to answer to the best of his ability. âYes, I am from England,â he confirmed first. âIâm⊠not entirely sure what it was like finding out about driving on the left side of the road? I suppose itâs been a bit of an adjustment switching over to the right side, though not as much as if I actually had a car. I donât know that Iâd call the left the wrong side though, itâs just different. As for CelsiusâŠâ he paused for a moment again, genuinely unsure of how to answer that one. âI assume you mean in comparison to Fahrenheit?â The woman sounded American in any case, and he couldnât fathom what else she might be using as a point of comparison. âI think the numbers are usually smaller in Celsius than Fahrenheit? Since zero degrees Celsius is freezing, and one hundred is boiling - the Fahrenheit numbers for both of those are higher, right?â He was pretty sure that was the case, but couldnât say for certain what exactly the freezing and boiling temperatures were in Fahrenheit.Â
Mac was completely oblivious to the fact that she just overwhelmed this man with her questions. She stood there with her eyebrows raised expectantly, and kept her expression like that while he fumbled through his responses. âRight right, different. Thatâs a better way of putting it.â She shrugged when he asked about comparing the two different degrees. âSure. I....think that reasoning tracks but I kind of lost you mid sentence there. Thatâs alright though, at least you tried explaining it to me.â Her mind had already moved on to wanting to getting to know this guy personally that she didnât care to learn anything more about his countries lifestyle, so she stuck her hand out to shake in greeting to get it going. âIâm Mac by the way. I want to get to know your vibe more dude, how do you feel about going to get a drink? Itâll all be on me of course since Iâm the one asking. Wait shit what time is it again?â Maybe right now wasnât the appropriate time for regular people to be going to get drinks, but once she saw it was roughly the afternoon it was enough to convince her it would be fine. âNah weâre good. So are you free right now?â

Cole was not a big fan of coffee shops. Honestly, most of the time their menu was just far too complicated for him. He was a simple man and just wanted a black coffee with two sugars, so half of the orders that were said before him didnât make a lick of sense to the man. The woman speaking to him distracted him from trying to decipher what a low fat whip was, and he couldnât help but chuckle at the line. âI donât reckon a lady has ever tried this line on me before,â he said kindly as he took the offered piece of chocolate. âI do love chocolate though, so thank you. Let me buy you a chocolate for givinâ me my sweet fix so early this morninâ.â
The moment a single word came out of this mans mouth Mac tucked her hair behind her ear and felt flustered. She always had a soft spot for guys who were the sweet southern gentlemen type, so she easily decided in mere seconds that she would do anything for this stranger. âReally? Iâm glad I was your first then.â She gave him a wink, and reached out to take the hot chocolate that was prepared for her. Offering to return the favor with such a charming smile? Gods, what a man. âAre you sure? Thatâs too kind, I donât want you going through the trouble of getting me anything when I think the chocolate I just gave you was probably from like, the discount valentineâs day chocolates section at the store.â

Eve was happy to take time to spend with her sisters. Growing up as an only child had been â not lonely but had made it so she always figured out how to keep herself amused, though now that she knew she had sisters? She was determined to spend a ton of time with them, so when Mac called and wanted to hang out â she was there. âOh gods no, I still have random stuff from my one-night stands.â She grinned, âOhh nice glasses.â She said leaning over to peer into the box as Mac dug around in the box. She picked up a hat and plopped it onto Macâs head as she was handed the jacket. âOhh sparkles.â She said her eyes lighting up. She took the jacket and slipped it on. âDo i look good?â
âWe should have a fashion runway just made up of all of the things people have left behind. I know for sure I could come up with at least five looks with whatever is in here.â Mac chuckled and did a little pose after the hat was set on her head, then picked up a watch that was easily worth more than four figures from the pile with a frown. âIâm like... eighty percent sure this one was from some guy who thought Iâd be impressed with him being some trust fund baby. He was a three out of ten in bed since I had to do most of the work.â She gave Eve a thumbs up as she tried on the jacket. Sure it was flashy, but nothing was better than standing out in a crowd of boring people. âOf course you look good, someone could put a paper bag over you and youâd look amazing. You can have the jacket if you want, though Iâd check the pockets first since uh, pretty sure it was from a rave a while back and gods know what some people keep on them during those.â After a little more searching Mac ended up giving up and draping herself over her couch, and then looked back up at her sister with a mischievous grin. âSpeaking of hookups, tell me about your love life right now Eveeee. Iâm going through a dry spell so I gotta live through whatever youâve got going on right now.âÂ

Mac was more of a hot cocoa gal than a fan of coffee, but that didnât stop her from going to the Ugly Mug. They did hot chocolate some justice, and she had money to spare so it was worth a visit for the day. While she was waiting for her hot drink to be made she felt something in her pocket, and search around just to be reminded that she had put some candy in her pocket before she left her house this morning. It would probably melt if she didnât get rid of it now, so she leaned over to whoever was close to her and winked. âPsst, hey. You want a kiss?â As soon as she said that line she slipped a few of the tiny kisses chocolates out of her pocket and held it out for the taking. @icarialexâ

While Mac enjoyed spending her nights partying it up in Nightshade as a DJ or simply someone in the crowd, she had moments where she also liked more casual settings. Elysium Tavern was just the right amount of socialization and mellow atmosphere that she needed for the night, plus it was the perfect place to pick people out that she wanted to mess with. It only took a few minutes for her to single someone out the moment she walked in, and slid into a seat with a charming smile. âHey, you like making bets? What would you say to putting 20 bucks on the table for whoever can down the most shots. Winner gets the cash, and one favor they can ask of the other whenever they chose.â Sure, technically Mac would have the upper-hand since vodka was like water to her, but she would end up paying for the drinks and sliding the twenty over even if she won. It was the essence of fun to the bet that mattered the most. @angelslietokeepcontrolâ
