it's kinda difficult to talk about "cozy games" because that's an aesthetic and not a genre so its very broad, is it cozy to de clutter an apartment or go on a hike, is it cozy to be action packed or melodramatic or blithely unconfrontational, etc. but I think it's accurate to say that coziness is one of many shorthands that have been developed as an attempt to opt out of ideology, be about nothing. of course with a game made to evoke comfort comes a proclamation of what the author's society considers comfy

“meme” is now the generic term for “stuff on the internet” btw. funny comments on Reddit? memes. funny posts on Tumblr? memes. Good tiktoks? oxymoron, but memes. Your great aunt’s anti-vax conspiracy theories on Facebook? memes. The homepage of The New York Times? memes, baby!

I’m so so so happy “Homem com H” (“latin blood: the ballad of ney matogrosso”) is the eighth most popular movie this week on letterboxd!!! Everyone go watch it now and learn more about one of the most revolutionary musician in Brazil! The guy was being openly queer and androgynous in the middle of a military dictatorship! Absolute legend (it’s on netflix)

i genuinely feel like joan watson in elementary, as played by lucy liu, is like the best way to adapt a character and honor their spirit while changing some aspect of them (gender, ethnicity, etc).
because joan isn't just some parody of sherlock, or a parody of a man. she's a fully fleshed out character, with a brother and mother and step-father and father. she has a family, she has exes and old friends and two past careers. she is a character that blends and incorporates the original material while still being something innovative.
she is a doctor, she holds guilt over her lost patient. she becomes a sober companion afterwards, which she finds fufilling. and then she becomes sherlock's sober companion, and the story moves on from there. and as a chinese american, i LOVE how they elaborated on how joan was a fierce academic, how joan was ruthless. some of the steryotypes are based in truth, and this is how to acknowledge that: by having an actual chinese person embody and ground the truth behind the steryotype.
she has conversations with her family and about her family that i can literally hear from my own. she casually eats food with chopsticks and forks, she speaks mandarin but also likes baseball, she's a nerd about comics and followed gangsters growing up. she's knowledgable about chinese history and culture, but to a realistic amount, she's not treated as a professor on the subject.
she's beautifully, wonderfully adapted and i really love how lucy liu made her come to life.
