La Siberia's abandoned factory

La Siberia, an abandoned town near Bogotá, has gained more fame and renown over time due to its tragic origins. There are many urban legends that explain why it is abandoned, however, the most likely cause seems to be related to the deteriorating health of its inhabitants due to the Samper cement factory. The official narrative downplays the situation and attributes the town's abandonment to an economic recession.

Armero's Graveyard On November 13, 1985, the Nevado del Ruíz Volcano, located in the department of Tolima (Colombia), erupted causing a series of lahars that k!ll3d more than 23,000 people living in nearby towns. The Armero tragedy, as the event is known, was the second deadliest volcanic disaster of the 20th century, surpassed only by the eruption of Mount Pelée in 1902, and the fourth deadliest recorded since 1500. It was also the d3adl!3st lahar in history, and the worst natural tragedy in the history of Colombia. Almost 40 years after this event occurred, several of the town’s ruined buildings are slowly being reclaimed by vegetation, while a few others have become places of pilgrimage where curious tourists arrive, attracted by the many legends that have been created around this mythical place.
