Alone. He was always alone these days. His friends had left town (lucky), gotten good jobs, got knocked up, or had moved on. He wasn’t a bitter person, in fact he thought he did better in solitude. Less feeling like a burden to others, less distractions for his future, less whining about whose life was the worst, when in actuality they lived a couple blocks or miles from the beach.
Despite all the shit people were capable of, his father, his mother, his neighbor who yelled at his dog every night, his third grade teacher who disbelieved him and slapped his wrist a little too hard... despite it all, maybe good was possible. Maybe if he became a cop he could put people like his dad behind bars. And he knew a few folk in this very town who were more rotten than that.
He scribbled in his notepad something about Miranda Rights, grateful that prisons existed for the nasty in the world. One black earbud played Twenty One Pilots while his other ear was kept unoccupied to make sure no one could sneak up on him. Yet when he looked up, he felt the breath leave his body.
“Oh my God--Darcy!” he whispered, as if in disbelief. He stood up in one swift move, and in another second his long arms wrapped around her. He closed his eyes while leaning into his best friend. For a few moments, things felt perfect, safe, and serene. “If the next words out of your mouth aren’t ‘I owe you a goddamn burrito,’ then you will suffer dire consequences,” he muttered into her hair.

Darcy swallowed hard as she stepped into Aurora Bay college’s library. It took her quite a while to figure out what Gray was up to these days, but it took even longer to pluck up the courage to go see him. He was there for her through so much, but she still left him. She didn’t think she deserved to be in his life, but she’d realized that he didn’t deserve to be left behind like that.
Darcy took in a deep breath before letting out a shaky breath, finally making herself move towards his table in the back of the library. She wasn’t sure what to expect, especially after having run into Jameson and Astrid first. She just hoped he didn’t hate her, that he wouldn’t resent her to for everything, and maybe he could give her a second chance.
“Um… Gray?” Her voice was quiet and shaky with nerves as she moved a bit closer to him.

There were a few cliques here and there in the bar, but Gray had his head deep in a book about criminal psychology. It intrigued him, and he wasn’t even surprised to be relating a lot of chapters to his own father. The father that was snoozing in the corner.
A voice appeared over the distant music, and Graham blinked a few times at the bartender. Color drained from his cheeks (despite being a little buzzed) as he turned around to see his father lying inches from a platter of thick-cut fries, alone in a musty booth. “Don’t worry, he doesn’t have any friends. If you consider those guys previously at the table to be his friends, then slap my ass and call me bestie cause you and I are just as close,” he muttered drily. He closed his book and turned his body so he wasn’t seated fully at the bar anymore. After a sigh, he announced, “I’ll drive him home in a bit. Just tryina sober up a bit and enjoy the quiet.” As if a bar was the best place to study.

Kaede had thought at first it would have been a relatively easy night, but when two men who had too much to drink started to argue over a game of pool, Kaede knew the entire vibe of the bar seemed to go south for the evening. By around eleven, someone was trying to take free drinks from behind the bar. Finally at  around midnight thing’s seemed to calm down quite a bit.  Kaede however did someone had been left in a booth by their group and was  sleeping with their head on the table. The author leaned over the bar to the person closest to him and stared at the scene. “ That just seems rude of them to do. “ He noted shaking his head. “ Do you think I let them sleep it off a bit before waking them or calling them a ride right now?” He asked, considering he had been left the bar by his wife after she had passed and he still liked to ask for advice even after owning the place for almost a year. “ Either way, they have bad friends”

Graham is an only child to a single father. His mother split when Graham was still in grade school. The story is she hitchhiked her way out of town to get away from Samson and Gray. Gray always wished she had just died, drowned in the ocean or something, instead of choosing to leave him with his relentless father.
Samson, Graham’s father, is a janitor here and there in town. When he isn’t mopping floors, cleaning piss and vomit, or sleeping in his couch at home in the Ocean Crest Apartments, he usually has some bad words on his lips and the smell of alcohol on his breath. He has hit his son too many times to count, causing bruises, cuts, burns and deeper hurt.
Gray was never great at school, but he stayed on campus longer than most. Not in the library, but with friends loitering or smoking in the parking lot. He never had any money but stole his father’s drugs or drink, partying with other kids his age. For awhile there, he was the main ‘supplier’ of the school at parties, until an accident happened at the hands of Darcy Anthony. In fact her father, the chief of police, helped straighten Graham out. He helped him see the danger of consequences, and that Graham was capable of pulling himself out of his father’s abyss. Even when Darcy ran away, Graham still pulled himself out of the dark he once knew.
Personality:
As a teenager, Graham was more of an introverted class clown. He never took anything serious, until his best friend caused a fire which had one casualty, a boy they all knew. After that incident, fear started to set in about his future until Mr Darcy helped put him on the right path. He helped Graham find tutoring and start college and apply for Financial Aid. Graham is utterly afraid of messing up, and has closed himself off due to the bad influence he had (and was) when he was younger. He fears that life (or his father’s life), and wants desperately to get on his own two feet and leave Aurora Bay forever.
Graham is quiet, has a dark sense of humor, is dedicated, dutiful, secretive, gentle, observant, reliable, stable, cautious and gloomy.
