Terry Fox is already widely remembered, but we should continue to recall him and appreciate him. He is a Canadian that shows the world what young Canadians are made of and how they can make history.

His Success?
Terry was a successful young man because he didn’t let a leg hold him back from doing something he really enjoyed. He was perseverant all the way to his last kilometre in Thunder Bay, Ontario and knew in his heart that he tried all he could. He had many setbacks and disappointments during his run, but he pushed past it and made it VERY far.

Terry was an amazing athlete and here are a few of the things he was able to accomplish in his short lived life:
- ran for 143 days, covering over 5,373 kilometres
- raised over 1.7 million dollars during the time of his run
- founder of the Terry Fox Run, which is the world’s largest one-day fundraiser for cancer. Several countries around the world recognize it as a special day
- has been named the greatest Canadian hero several times, by different companies and broadcasters
- one of Canada’s main figure of hope

You may have heard of Terry Fox, and there is definitely a reason for that. Terry was hit with Osteosarcoma at a young age, and lost his right leg because of it. However, he did not let that hold him back from anything, as he embarked on a journey to cross Canada from the Atlantic ocean to the Pacific ocean. He unfortunately was not able to complete it, but he did leave a massive legacy behind him.

How did achieve success?
Even though he was not the absolute best at swimming and cycling, he excelled at running and the fear of not doing good did not stop him. He always wanted to be “the world’s best at something” and he achieved it through hard work and perseverance.
Why should we remember him?
- was the Canadian flag bearer in TWO Olympic games

How should we remember him?
After he retired from sports, he knew that he could make an impact in Canada so he decided to finish school and run for office. He got a seat in the House of Commons, and was very politically active in sports. He knew that with all his sport experience, as well as his love for his nation, he would be able to achieve great things for Canada. Sadly, he died before he was able to accomplish much, but he knew that it would have happened

Lionel was successful because...
- he became known as “The Big Train”, and not only because of his size, but because he played 7 different sports in his life and excelled in all of them
- Lionel is the type of athlete that everyone aspires to be, simply because of his dedication and willingness to keep trying until success
- even though he had to leave school in grade 8, in order to make help his father maintain his family. He knew what hard work was and knew that it was the only way to be successful in a world full of people
- he knew that he had to do something to get his family out of poverty, and he decided it was something he was good at: SPORTS. He fought hard for what he earned.

I believe that Christine is an amazing role model for young women soccer players. She is one of the faces of Women’s soccer and demonstrates that it is harder for women, but that should not hold them back. Along with her passion for soccer, and showing young women that soccer is a sport for all, Sinclair has partnered with A&W to show support and campaign to rise awareness for multiple sclerosis. Not only having succeeded in a sport, she used her platform to show support for something that the world is affected by

This quick video of Christine just shows how confident she is. She doesn’t let a few unlucky days get the best of her and always shows a brave face for Canada.
As a young woman person, Sinclair was never afraid to branch out; having played both basketball and baseball. This taught her various skills that soccer alone could not teach her. As a young player, her father and family drove her to play soccer and enjoy the sport. Her family’s support was always something that inspired her to play soccer.
When she was 16 years old, she played her first Canada’s U-18 cup, and became the leading scorer with three goals. Her dedication to the sport makes Sinclair an amazing athlete

If this picture doesn’t tell you how proud to be Canadian she is, then maybe who she is as an athlete might.

All her achievements are outstanding, but she should be remembered because of perseverance and love for sport. Training hard is not the only thing required to succeed. Loving what you do and willingness to be great is what does it.

What drove her to success?
- even though she started as a hockey player, she switched to speed skating and quickly realized it was natural talent. She then decided to focus on speed skating and knew it was dream to represent Canada
- even after she suffered various injuries, she still wanted to compete -- maybe not for medals, but that’s the great thing, she was doing it for herself, not for winning
- her spirit of being active and loving skating is what got her those medals
