“Practical Magic” Is 20 Years Old And Just As Relevant As Ever by Alanna Bennett (full article).
Tumblr media
[#tw abuse #tw domestic violence]
“The image of a woman suffering because of a man’s violence is, unfortunately, a timeless one. Practical Magic’s 19th birthday took place only two weeks after the Harvey Weinstein stories broke, and just a day after #MeToo rose to mainstream prominence. It’s relevant on its 20th birthday, too, with Brett Kavanaugh recently sworn onto the Supreme Court. The anniversary falls so shortly after women all over the country watched Christine Blasey Ford testify in front of Congress, already so sure of her own annihilation, forced to relive her trauma decades after the fact in an act of public violence. A community rose up for Blasey Ford around her testimony. That testimony and the conversation around it were a stark real-world reminder that we all live next to survivors of abuse every day, that the process of healing is a rough road, and that our moments of trauma still live in us, intruders in our lives.”

“There are some things, after all, that Sally Owens knows for certain; always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder. Keep rosemary by your garden gate. Add pepper to your mashed potatoes. Plant roses and lavender, for luck. Fall in love whenever you can.” ~ Practical Magic ☆ Alice Hoffman

Coyote finds old dog toy, acts like a puppy A photographer spotted a coyote as it trotted into her yard and explored a toy left in the snow. What she managed to capture on camera is the beauty of play.

The kids on TikTok think that just because he was a classic country singer, Johnny Cash was conservative??? My babies he covered a Nine Inch Nails song in his seventies.
Classic country singers (the majority of which came from poor roots) were always talking about how much The Man sucked because they were taking money from poor rural folk. You’re gonna tell me that’s conservative?? Get outta here.

so insane how for profit the recycling industry is and how much it depends on there being buyers for the materials that sorting facilities collect. if they dont have people who want to buy the recycled material to remake into other stuff its basically useless and gets thrown out so what is recyclable is more dependent on what markets exist for certain materials rather than what is feasible to recycle and repurpose overall. a lot of materials could potentially be recyclable but facilities have no reason to collect them because no one will buy them (yet). why is the whole recycling industry not nationalized this should be an entirely government run program think about the new heights of recycling we could reach with state run recycling its so fucked up why are we living like this
