Art History Selfie
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The name of the original work is ‘’Frida Kahlo on bench’’, 1939 by Nicolas Muray. Frida was an important figure that broke numerous barriers in reaching her level of success. Kahlo was born in Coyoacan, Mexico in 1907. Around the age of 6, she contracted polio, which caused her to be in bed for nine months. While she did recover from the illness, she walked because the disease had damaged her right leg and foot. And later she suffered serious injuries following a bus crash when she was 18 years old. She suffered a great deal of pain but despite these events, Kahlo continued to paint and engage in her passion. She mostly painted self-portraits because she often spent time by herself since she was often left immobilized and bedridden for months at a time. She married the famous painter Diego Rivera in 1929. In addition, because of her accident, she was unable to have children and experienced numerous miscarriages.
Kahlo was influenced by all Mexican culture and frequently incorporated things relating to Mexican mythology while participating in the surrealism movement of painting. In the years before her death, her troubles with her health got increasingly worse. Kahlo died at age 47 due to pulmonary embolism and even since her death, her paintings and her lives have been admired by numerous amount of people. She broke boundaries that many Latina women faced and embraced her talents despite the hinderances she suffered. Since her death, Kahlo has become the first Hispanic woman to be honored with a US postage stamp and her paintings are displayed all around the world.
I decided to choose Frida Kahlo because for me she is a definition of a truly strong woman. Frida Kahlo painting expresses many visions of her life and emotions since she dealt with a lot of pain that is seen in her artwork. I decided to add a portrait of myself smiling because her painting are usually too serious, so I wanted to be more fun and happiness. I use Photoshop mix and PicsArt app to give the image a different perspective in the colors and to make it look brighter and shine. I added to cats in each side because in Mexican mythology, cats are symbols of lust, and she used to take a lot of portrait selfie with cast and monkeys, in most of her artwork, Kahlo portrayed them as tender and protective symbols.

‘’Form Into Action Exhibition’’
Julio Le Parc (b. 1928, Mendoza, Argentina) is a central and influential figure in participatory kinetic art, who has been largely overlooked in the United States, until now. Form into Action, which is the first solo museum exhibition and only comprehensive survey of the artist’s work in North America. The exhibition will explore ‘demystify art’, breaking down barriers between artwork, viewer and museum. Playful, irreverent, and dripping with pattern, color, and shape — inspires optimism in our increasingly uncertain world. The exhibition features more than 100 works spanning the artist's 55 year career, including large scale installations, light-filled objects, and rarely seen works on paper.

PEREZ ART MUSEUM
I really enjoyed visited the Perez Art Museum (PAMM) I went second Saturday of last month and turned out to be free admission. For those that are interested in modern art, this museum is definitely worth a visit. I found the exhibits very well curated. There was a mix of different art forms; some interactive, some digital media, sculptures, and paintings. Modern and classic style artwork and sculptures. The Artwork-chances periodically but it ranges from strange to totally amazing pieces. The architecture of the museum itself is really creative and awesome. The Building is beautiful and it has a great view, which is so relaxing and breezy with benches and tables outside. The Julio Le Parc exhibition was amazing--fascinating the mix of 2D, 3D, and multimedia pieces. It was my favorite!

Greece The Classical and Medieval West
In my personal opinion The Classical and Medieval West have been for me the most attractive, interesting and fun topic that I am enjoying so far. The classical Greece, which the word ‘’beautiful’’ is what describe this country. Not only for all the magical places that represent, but because is rich and historic. Greece gave the West several concepts that we still value today. The Greek are recognize by people in other countries by their attitude and focus on human potential, the perfection of naturalistic images of the human figure in art. For example the Polykleitos of Argos, which is sculpture of a men nude and was made to the ideal proportions to the human body by observations with mathematical calculations. Now days we do not see this kind of sculpture as it was back in decades.
Also, another thing impressed me was the large rock called Acropolis, the Athenians constructed the Parthenon. One of the most admired structured and that I always heard about it. Which is the largest of several sacred buildings and was designed as a gift to Athena Parthenos, goddess of wisdom and prudent warfare, and protector of the Athenian navy. One day I wish I could go to this beautiful country and meet personally all of this great monuments and learn more about Greek history. Since there is a lot more to know and learn.

Creating a Graphic Design PDF Portfolio
Tumblr media
As with any portfolio, I would say that the most important decision is content. Therefore, we should consider these tips:
Focus on the types of projects you want to do. If you have a specific focus, such as book design, select your best work in that area. If you are early in your career and don’t have a focus (or don’t want one), choose a wide variety of pieces.
Choose your best work. This seems obvious, but remember that the goal here is not to show everything you have ever done. Stick with a “less is more” philosophy, choosing a small selection of your favorite work. Each piece should serve a purpose, showcasing a particular style, technique or industry.
Stay up to date. Design trends and technology change quickly, so don't allow your portfolio to look dated. Show that you know the newest techniques.
Include personal projects. Personal projects show that you have a passion for design, so don't think you have to include only paid, client projects. Further, if you are just starting out, you may have only design school projects to showcase. The work itself, and not necessarily a client or publication name, can impress just as well.
Show the process. Consider showing the creative stages you went through when designing a logo or website, or anything else. This can illustrate your depth of understanding and capabilities of techniques and concepts in the field.

Graphic design trends in 2017
Tumblr media
 Flat 2.0.
The flat design trend caught my attention because is characterized by a clean, colorful look, big typography, white space, and subtle gradients. It’s influenced by minimalism, Bauhaus and the Swiss Style. According to my research, flat design was introduced in 2006 with Microsoft’s Zune mp3 player, refreshed by Apple’s iOS 7 in 2013, and further refined by Google’s Material design in 2014. A great example can be found in the award-winning indie game Monument Valley.
This trend has the staying power of a visual language that creates high usability and fast loading times. It’s also easy to mix flat design with more intricate or hand drawn artwork and photography, which makes the trend versatile and flexible. It started as a completely flat style, and has been updated adding depth, light and shadow, as well as motion.

Aesthetics and functionality
Tumblr media
I think that aesthetics and functionality are crucial but both can be uniquely different. Function is the purpose for which a design is developed. Aesthetic Response is a human reaction to the artistic qualities of a sensory experience. According to the source, both aspects create challenges for all designers in all industries. For example, lighting fixtures that are designed, manufactured and sold must undergo a design process. Each aspect of function and aesthetics are considered because they are a crucial part during the design process. A lighting fixture at times might not be able to serve both purposes. For instance a fluorescent light fixture that is readily used in the commercial arena like warehouses and offices serve their purposes, but one might not place this fixture in their homes. Then there are lighting fixtures like pendants that are extremely versatile for both home and commercial use. With that in mind choosing lighting fixtures for your indoor and outdoor spaces will help set the tone and create a lighting experience for your home.

Little Photoshop
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this case I decided to use a little of Photoshop. I am not an expert but I enjoyed playing with this photo of my little cousin Lucas. This is a photo I took some months ago. He was playing in the beach very happy as always and got really dirty with sand all over, and some food he was eating. I remove the sand and messy of his hair, noise, shirt and mouth. Also I made the photo more bright with a close up to appreciate his cute face.

Decisive Moment
Tumblr media
I choose this image as a decisive moment by Cartier-Bresson, I have to say I loved all his photos. In specific this one, this person either has to keep going up the stairs or just simple go back before the pigeons could hurt her. For instance, is a decisive moment and the black and white photo give a little more of suspense, amazing photography.

Early Photography
Tumblr media
Most of the early photographs were made in studio. This was because the early photographic were very difficult and they required equipment to prepare and develop the lighting. In that time photographic was too expensive and only rich people were able to afford it. Also the photographic were black and white as you can appreciate in this example I am posting. Besides you can see the way people used to dress up. For me the family is one of the most important values we could have in life, that is why this photo captured my attention. In early photographic and present this should stay the same a union familiar.  At the present moment everything has change with technology and advance, it is easier now to have a camera and take millions of pictures. The prices are reasonable for everyone, no more black and white backgrounds because you can edit your own photos with many different styles or apps that are now in a social media around the world. phones now are the more common and attractive device for take photos and edit photos when ever you want to.

Leonardo’s Grandeur
Tumblr media
The Renaissance: When it comes to talk about the Renaissance of humanity back into the 15th century, we immediately think about Leonardo da Vinci and his contributions to our history. Considered one of the most extraordinary artist of all times, Leonardo definitely discovered his passion in art to make the most of it not only as a painter, but also as an outstanding sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer , inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer. The Renaissance was a movement that consisted of a change in thinking revival of the Greek and Roman cultures in the areas of art, architecture, literature, behavior, and learning. One of its primary objectives being the redefining of human form in art, to represent a more realistic, original and three dimensional figures that not fundamentally to symbolize a religious idea or belief, but a representation of emotions, attractiveness, power, and greatness of the human being.
His very well-known painting, The Last Supper, tells a lot of his enthusiasm and constant desire for thinking outside the box. Because instead of using tempera on wet plaster, he decided to utilize tempera on a base, which he mixed himself, on the stone wall. Unfortunately, the base soon began to loosen from the wall and damaged the work considerably. He managed to illustrate a very coherent relationship between human characters (disciples and Jesus) and the emotions they are supposed to express, when Christ announces that one of the apostles will betray him in the following sunrise. How the characters of the scene react towards. Very single element of the painting directs one’s attention straight to the midpoint of the composition, Christ’s head. What Leonardo achieved when painted The Last Supper went beyond a very well executed technique of painting. It established a true connection with the human senses and their appreciation of beauty.

The Ecstasy of Baroque
Tumblr media
Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s was always considered a prodigious man. He was said to have been only 8 years old when he craved a stone head. Amazed by the first creations of the Italian boy, Pope Paul V decides to sponsor him so that he could start a long list of works commissioned in great part in Rome, where he created most of the masterpieces attributed to the Baroque. The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa represents Bernini’s perfection of marble. The output is so inspiring and beautifully developed that Santa Maria Della Vittoria, which has become a place where not only people are viewers of art but also are witnesses of a descriptive experience of faith, love and grace.
What is seen inside the chapel is the exact moment when the angel has pulled out the arrow from Teresa’s heart, leaving her with an intense pain that makes her cry repeatedly. That is the reason why she has her mouth fully open, her head thrown back and eyes closed as her body collapses before a spiritual connection. Surprisingly, the Baroque (especially in painting and sculpture) was not a period that caught the attention of the world as much as the Renaissance did; in part, because for many, the works that appeared during the period tended to be the same of its predecessor. However, the concept was completely different in technique and composition, but capable of a unique feeling of admiration. Bernini demonstrated how art can easily become a visual narrative of human desires and experiences and likewise involve the viewer into an atmosphere of pure delight.

The Room of Hope
Tumblr media
In the late 1880s visual arts had become greatly influenced by nature and ordinary elements. Many artists realized that they were also entitled to be celebrated in their works and so the life they were going through. This is basically what impressionism wanted to emphasize and accompanied by the inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception, experience and visible brush strokes was very its revolutionary style which invited to free the imagination in the application of vivid colors and shapes. Impressionism was missing something or simply needed a new baseline where the main value of art was the diversity of perspectives and not on the search of scientific truth. Van Gogh wants to show in his painting may look vague but is not indeed. He loved the color yellow as it symbolized happiness, sunlight and warmth to him.
Whether Van Gogh’s Bedroom in Arles is not what painters were used to show in their creations due to its apparent simplicity might be partially true yet not less important. As a matter of fact, it serves as an opportunity to better understand his life and so empathize with his message. His weaknesses and foibles made him more human and therefore more lovable though several years after he died. The colors and the almost tactile nature of his paintings besides of learning from the psychological journey he travelled help us appreciate the emotion of beauty from his work.
