Lost Moment || The new classmate
Tumblr media
October 30th, 2015
Even back in high school, Rory knew quite well how important it was to pay attention to the teacher’s lectures. Being in college just brought it up to a completely different level because he knew that missing a word could end up making him feel lost in whatever the professor was explaining and that was something that he was set on not going through and luckily, so far, he was going quite well despite having gone through a long time without listening to a class. But there was one day when something drifted his attention and managed to keep it away from a class that he actually found interesting.
It was the middle of the class when someone came rushing in, interrupting  the class and stopping at the door, panting and looking like he had just run for his life. The person was quite young, Rory was sure that he was no older than 18, he was tall, with black hair yet hat stood out were his ears that were quite big. The moment he came in, everyone immediately looked at him. The boy realized that he was the center of attention once he managed to catch his breath and blushed instantly.
“Aw, sorry, I got a tad lost on the way here, y’know… It’s me first day.”
A couple of laughs were heard around the class and the boy’s ears turned even redder than before. But Rory’s attention was in the accent. The familiar tone that he hadn’t heard in a while, except when he talked to his family which wasn’t something that happened very often now that he had started studying. The boy was Irish, there was no doubt about it, and for some reason it made Rory feel a little homesick. With all the worries about finding Sugar and what to do with his life, home had been behind in his mind, like something that wasn’t so important. He knew very well that his place was there, in Chicago, but it was impossible to not miss the place where he was from every now and then. Being so focused on those thoughts, the Irishman didn’t even notice that the boy had been told to sit down on an empty seat next to his and that the class had taken its course again.
“As much as ‘m lovin’ America, I gotta admit it’s pretty damn hard to get someone to understand ya when ye have an accent Oh bollocks, ye probably don’t understand a word I say either.”
The voice snapped him out of it and Rory looked to his side to find the young man talking to him, looking amused and frustrated at the same time. And that was when Rory felt a strange sense of déjà vu which made him smile. For some reason, this boy reminded him of himself a couple of years ago. The excited and hopeful glint in his blue eyes, loving America, people not understanding him… He couldn’t help but think back to his first days in McKinley’s High School, except that he hoped that the other Irishman didn’t have such a rough start as he had. Before his new classmate thought that he hadn’t understood him, Rory replied.
“It’s ‘kay, ya get used to it. Ye’ll find people that make the effort to understand ya.”
The boy’s face lighted up like a Christmas tree, clearly excited to hear someone that was like him, from Ireland. He started whispering at Rory, not even trying to pay attention to the lecture because of how excited he was to find someone in the class that was Irish like him. Rory couldn’t help but laugh and follow up, forgetting about the class he was in as well. Soon, he learnt that the boy was named Cathal Brugha and that he had recently gotten an scholarship, that he was starting late because of the slow visa validation and that he was amazed by America so far. And Rory simply couldn’t help but feel like he had just ran into a younger version of himself.

It’s what I do best.

No, I guess not. It’s not good to dwell on that stuff. Not when you have better and bigger things to worry about like school and..things like that.

If there was a good end o'the deal, then ya definitely got it, I think. But I guess we don't have to keep thinkin' too much 'bout that, right?
You’d be fine. You’re a lot stronger than you think you are, love.

That makes one of us, at least. I don’t know how I did. Your emotions can make you do crazy things when they’re really..intense. I guess, in that way, I got somewhat a good end of the deal. If there was a good end of the deal.

Unexpected Visitor || Sugtanary
Sugar: Sugar was more than positive that she'd dreamt the knocking at the door, quickly turning her tired body over to avoid the light coming from the lamp. She was usually restless, at first, when she came home. She'd eat her late night dinner and get in as much late night studying that she could before passing out altogether, but that definitely wasn't in the plans for that evening. The fact that Sugar had immediately fallen into the couch for a quick catnap had a lot to say for that, but Sugar knew the longer day was more than worth it since she had the following day off. She wondered if Sunday morning would come to bite her in the ass, more or less because she knew she'd be out late with whatever Santana wanted with her after the show. Not that she wouldn't enjoy it, but the fact that she knew she was probably going to go straight to work at 4am rather than catching any sleep. It would all be worth it, Sugar had absolutely no doubt. She was just about completely drifted off when she heard creaks in the floor, instantly indicating to her that Rory was coming into the living room. Her eyebrows furrowed, contemplating with herself if she should wake herself up enough to greet him. As much as she'd loved to, she just couldn't get her eyes open wide enough. However, when she heard the front door open, Sugar's eyes opened instantly as she rose up off of the couch to look towards the front door. She was just about to question Rory, wondering where he was heading off to or if her brother had snuck over for whatever reason to send him home, but the vision she'd caught instead had Sugar fully awake now. Her eyes widening, a confused yet intrigued grin grew over her mouth as she straightened her slouch to a complete sit up on the couch. "San?"
Santana: When the door opened to reveal Rory standing a grand total of about six inches away from her, Santana couldn't say that it was what she expected. She knew somewhere in her brain that Rory lived in the apartment too, but something had told her when she was going to show up and surprise Sugar out of nowhere, that she was going to be the one to answer the door. That was honestly what Santana had expected, which was why looking Rory dead in the face like that for the first time in what had to have been years was a little more than awkward. Santana /rarely/ felt awkward about anything. Awkward wasn't something she even thought twice about, she had always been the person who hadn't even bothered with awkward moments and had just done things because she wanted to. She never really understood feeling awkward about anything, and yet being shocked by facing Rory so unexpectedly like that instantly made pangs of awkward shoot through her as she felt something punch her in the gut somewhere. Santana instantly backed a few steps away from the door, blinking a couple of times and looking down at the ground to recover from looking Rory dead in the face like that. It instantly took her mind back, back to a very different time when the only time she ever approached him like that was when she was narrowing her eyes at him or shoving him or yelling something ridiculous in his face in locker lined halls. It took her back to a different time and a different place in her life, and back to a person that Santana still, to this day, wasn't exactly proud that she'd been. For about a half of a second, Santana really didn't know what she was supposed to say, and apparently Rory didn't know either, because he wasn't exactly starting a conversation himself. Thankfully however, Santana heard the faint sound of Sugar's voice from inside of the apartment, which caused her to look back up again and see her sitting on the couch inside. It was enough of an opportunity for Santana to grab onto to get her out of the current and completely unexpected awkward moment that had somehow just cripped her, and she was going to run with that. Santana brushed past Rory and into the apartment to approach Sugar, a confident smirk wiping onto her face. "Yeah, yeah, your address is on one of those random White Page websites, I found it, and felt like surprising you when I got into the city. So, surprise."
Rory: To say that it was awkward was definitely just the beginning of it. He had seen Santana before, yes, but not this close. He had seen her during her wedding and even then it had been from afar. No he had her right in front of her and by the looks of it she was just as surprised as he was. A part of Rory was really surprised to have left Santana Lopez as speechless as he was just by his presence. It was quite clear that she wasn’t expecting to see him there and by the sound of Sugar’s voice, neither had she. Rory quickly moved aside once Santana went inside and just listened for a minute while she spoke. Finding Sugar’s address online? Her search had definitely been a lot better than his, since it had taken him a long time to find here Sugar’s home was. But that was Santana standing in front of her and if he remembered the Santana from high school well, he knew that she stopped at nothing to get whatever she wanted. And with her fame right in that moment, it was quite probable that she wouldn’t have any kind of trouble to get whatever she wanted. “Ah… Sug, Santana? Do ye want anythin’ to drink?” He offered, hoping that they would say yes so he could get away for a moment to gather his thoughts after the surprise visit. After all, even if they had all changed a lot, Santana Lopez’s attitudes during their high school years were something that was really hard to forget.

Sugar: What the time was, Sugar wasn't sure of exactly at that moment of time. It was one of her longer days and she was, without a doubt, feeling it as she barely carried her tired legs up the infamous three flights of stairs up to the apartment. She'd taken on more hours, if that was even possible, to make up for her absence the following day. Even as her eyes drooped with every step up she took, the excitement that boiled within Sugar's stomach had yet to seize since she'd woken up that morning. Seeing Santana in concert, and for the first time since her wedding, was something she'd been looking forward to for months. She'd briefly spoke to Sam about going and, honestly, not bothered the bring it up to Rory since he'd been so busy. Even if she ended up going alone, which is the way the tables were obviously turning, Sugar had no doubts that she was going to love each and every second of it. Rockstar Santana was obviously fantastic back in the choir room and even more so on the various Youtube segments Sugar had watched over the years, but to see it in person was all the more intriguing to her. Even if she'd broken her friendship from her years ago, only to repatch it earlier that year, Sugar hadn't seized being one of her biggest fans. Her hand was on the doorknob and she was in, without hesitation, and from what she could tell, Rory was either back in the bedroom studying or not home at all. She never knew anymore and though that made her saddened some of the time, it never overshadowed just how proud she was that he was in school in the first place. Slipping her shoes off and letting her body fall into the sofa, with no hesitation, Sugar closed her eyes long enough to let the sleep take over for just a few moments.
Santana: It was hard for Santana to really believe that she was in city that was now home to the one and only Sugar Motta. She'd heard enough about it from her, and with everything that had been going on recently, she honestly hadn't thought that much about the fact that the next stop on the tour was Chicago. That was, until they were only about an hour away from the windy city, and she'd felt the need to text Sugar, who confirmed that she had in fact, written down the date and made room in her schedule to actually watch her. Santana wasn't really sure why that was so surprising to her, but somehow it was, and as they finally rolled into Chicago, Santana knew that it was really happening, and that it was very possible that she was going to learn a lot more about this new Sugar Motta than she ever really had. There was a lot of things that happened to her, that much was completely obvious. Santana had always wanted to pry, but even she wasn't nosy enough to dig completely into all of that. The two of them had talked, and clearly Sugar was emotional about the past, which honestly surprised her more than anything else. Of course, she cared about her, even if years had gone by and time and the breaking off of a friendship a long time ago had separated the two of them, but one thing that Santana /never/ expected Sugar to be was emotional, or even broken. She always seemed unstoppable back in the simple crazy days of living in Lima. Which was why Santana began to wonder if doing her show with the rest of the Lima Ora tour in the city that many compared to her glittering New York would give her answers. And, admittedly... after all the time she'd spent alone recently, Santana thought it might be good for her to see a few friends other than Rita or anyone associated with the tour herself. Which was how Santana came up with the completely insane idea of looking up Sugar on google, on one of this websites where sometimes people's addresses are randomly listed, and of course, found the Chicago apartment address on the website. She really didn't know how addresses got out there like that, and she honestly didn't want to think about her and Brittany's address getting out to more fans than it already had when the two of them had pulled the whole flashing their titties stunt from their apartment window above. Sometimes she would even open the door to her apartment and see fan made goodies on their porch. One time someone had even left a chew toy for Charming. It was one of the many things she missed about being home....and she knew that home was only a couple of weeks away now. The tour was almost over, and Chicago was one of a couple of stops remaining on the Lima Ora tour. So she was going to have to get through it somehow. The tour had become hard for Santana to deal with, and somewhat emotional, but lately it was a lot easier for her to be a rock than anything else. And Santana was more than fine with that. The busses pulled into the windy city for the first time, and Santana looked out the window of her tour bus to look at the cars and the traffic and the life around her. It was different than New York, but exactly the same at the same time, and part of that caused a smile to form on Santana's lips. This was the closest that she'd been to home in a long time, and it was only going to get closer and closer now. Santana had given the bus driver the address of the apartment, and had even gotten permission to "roam the city", even if it meant just visiting Sugar's apartment randomly, from Dylan because they had gotten in a day early. So that was exactly what Santana was going to do. After a couple of minutes of streets and splitting off from the other busses making their way through the city, Santana watched the large tour bus pull over onto the side of the street as much as it could, and saw the number of people who were looking at the outside of the bus with curiosity on the street just outside. It did have her face and Rita's face painted on the outside, after all, so it was sort of hard to miss. Santana instantly got up from where she was sitting in the back of the bus, making her way through and putting on a pair of shades that masked her face as much as possible, and the fall jacket that she'd bought in Nashville, knowing how freezing Chicago was going to be. Santana smiled at the driver, nodding at him once as she took a deep breath, and the doors of the bus opened for her to step down and onto the street. Instantly Santana was blasted with a cold wave of Chicago air, chilling her almost immediately as she realized the difference in climate from all of the cities that she'd been to so far. Europe had been during the summer, and the west coast for the most part wasn't even that cold in the fall. But Chicago was completely different, and Santana instantly felt herself getting cold as she stepped down each stair and onto the street, moving as quickly as she could. A couple of people yelled on the street when they saw her, whipping out their smart phones or trying to pull her to the side, but Santana kept walking, knowing that if she stopped for just one second, she would never get to the top of the apartment building. Santana quickly made her way into the door that was marked with the address Santana had found, suddenly just hoping that the Internet had somehow not lied to her. That would be a complete disaster. Of course, Santana realized as soon as she got inside that she would have quite a few stairs to climb. From what it looked like, Sugar's apartment was on the top of the tall building, and Santana had made the wise decision to wear heels, as usual. She clenched her teeth, beginning to make her way towards the stairs of the building, slowly beginning to climb the stairs and look for the address somewhere along the way. She still had a feeling that the address wasn't going to be towards the bottom, considering the numbers, but she kept climbing anyways. Santana found herself getting more and more frustrated as she continued to climb flights, wondering how Sugar could even deal with the number of stairs that she was currently dealing with on a regular basis. Eventually, after what felt like a ridiculously long trek to the top, Santana finally found Sugar's address, which of course, was at the top of the building. Santana let out a dramatic groan as she finally approached the door, taking in a few deep breaths to get a grip on herself before she finally, at long last, knocked on the door. If this was somehow the wrong address, she was seriously going to smack someone.
Rory: He had been doing his best to get back on track with everything ever since he had started to go back to college, and it had proven to be a hard task, but at the same time rewarding. It felt like he was finally doing something useful with his life, that he wasn’t just taking up space somewhere. Even if it was a lot of hard work, he felt like it was worth it. That didn’t mean that he didn’t have his doubts sometimes, but whenever he saw how proud Sugar was of the progress he was making with his life, all of them just went away as easily as they sometimes came. And with the major he had chosen, he loved it, he enjoyed the class and found them not that hard to follow at all. It was just the amount of work that he wasn’t used to and sometimes he would spend time up till late until he was sure that he had done everything and had understood everything as well. The downside as that he wasn’t spending as much time as he would have liked with Sugar, and there were times when he really missed her company. But he also knew how hard she was working, more now that her graduation was coming closer and closer. Once things sorted themselves out a little, he knew that they would get to spend more time together. Rory was well aware that there had some things to sort out themselves before even trying about getting their relationship back, but he knew that the spark and the love they had wasn’t gone at all. That night, he had been busy studying when there was a knock on the door. He hadn’t paid enough attention to be sure if Sugar was back or not but by the time it was, it was quite possible that she was already at home. Frowning and wondering who it could be at that time of the night, Rory got up and headed to the door. On his way he noticed that Sugar had fallen asleep on the couch, so he made sure to not make any noises while he went to open the door. And when he did, he definitely wasn’t expecting to see Santana Lopez there.

Maybe ya're not so wrong at comparin' them... It's hard gettin' back at ridin' a bike at first but it's not somethin' ya really forget. Somethin' like that? It is! I loved it when Mr. Schue got to teachin' it, I even still remember some o'the thing he taught us. I'm really likin' it.
That's quite a long while! [Private] I saw Puck's picture 'bout ya two. Congratulations.

I would say that I think school is something like riding a bike, and you just get back into it, but I really don’t think it is. But I’m glad you are! And History is definitely an interesting subject. Are you enjoying it?
From school? No, I’ve actually been done with school since…March? A while now, ha. Though I will be leaving the show soon, so in a way, it’s a form of graduation.
